Not many people realise that, thanks to an oddity in the way the calendar is worked out, the 80s actually began in 1979.

It's quite possible to string a four-string BEAD (use the bottom four strings from a five-string set). It might be confusing, so you might want to use something which doesn't feel like your main four-string.

Seriously tempted by this, but my D-800 is incredible and keeping my GAS at bay. @agedhorse sorry for the segue - are there any plans to release something similar to the Prodigy again (all valve lunchbox head)

Cultural appropriation and covers
Beer of the Bass replied to DF Shortscale's topic in General Discussion
There isn't really a definitive answer, I reckon. You can only consider whether you like the idea, and whether you're comfortable with any possible reactions you might be able to anticipate, then make a choice about whether it's something you want to do based on that. So my take on being in a band of white British guys playing Zombie in particular is that I wouldn't, not "you must never" - Today

Deffo the Soul Train ‘Lady of Soul’ Awards in 2005. According to IMDb it was held at Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, probably September. Jimmy Williams ( pictured in the previous post ) looks like a strong contender for our mystery bassist too, as well as using a similar style bass ( although maybe a fiver? ).

Cultural appropriation and covers
DF Shortscale replied to DF Shortscale's topic in General Discussion
I can confirm I am not a Russian bot, but I do find it interesting that there is still no clear consensus this many pages in. It shows that the answer is clearly not as straightforward as you might hope. It’s good to discuss these things. -

Apparently Johnny Marr had a bit of a scare this week with UPS and his guitars. -
I have a sneaking suspicion that these kind of threads are started by Russian bots, now that the Kremlin has decided to further undermine NATO by sewing the seeds of cultural conflict amongst its' bass players. We seem to fall for it every time, me included. Getting back to the O.P, I wouldn't play Fela Kuti covers because I don't like that music played by Fela Kuti, let alone anyone else especially me. But if for whatever reason I did fancy having a go I would, wearing whatever ethnic-inspired outfit I felt like wearing and other folks would be free to like it or lump it. The whole thing is ridiculous. If Slade came out today Noddy Holder would be accused of culturally appropriating a garden gnome. Whatever oppressed peoples in the world anyone is being offended on behalf of, they are unlikely to be further harmed by someone playing their popular music, probably badly. No Biafrans will be napalmed as a result of your dalliance with afro beat. These bourgeois anxieties are a symptom of having too much time to think up things to think about.

Why am I struggling to make bass sound good through PA?
Bill Fitzmaurice replied to mrtcat's topic in PA set up and use
PA subs go as much as an octave lower than bass cabs, while PA mains don't have the rising midrange typical of bass cabs. Try high passing the desk bass channel at 60 to 80Hz, if it has that capability, or cutting back on the bass EQ if it doesn't, while boosting the mids in the 2 to 2.5kHz range. If you want to be more precise get this app for your phone. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dom.audioanalyzer&hl=en_US&pli=1 You can use it to see the frequency response of your rig. Play an open A and take a picture of the result, C weighting, slow response. Save it and compare it to the same test through the PA. Comparing the two will show where the PA EQ needs to be adjusted. -
