  1. Past hour
  2. Has to be under £500. Theres so many basses available new and 2nd hand under £500. If you're hitting £750 to £1000, your options are getting less. still lots, but less.
  3. I’ve put £2000, as a new US Fender Precision is just under that, and my benchmark for expensive has always been whatever they cost, this being a hangover from my youth where a US Precision was the daddy.
  4. Tough one to crack, the complete Jimmy Johnson performance on the tune 'Ojai' from the 1986 Wayne Johnson Trio album, 'Grasshopper'. I got this when it came out because I had read about this guitar player in the Guitar Player magazine when it used to be good and full of top drawer players an not hair metal poseurs. he had a double-neck 6/12 and Flim had one of the first 5-string basses I had ever seen. More to the point, he used the whole damn instrument in a way that most Rock player would never do. One of my top 4 influences. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/ojai-wayne-johnson-trio/
  5. I've seen quite a few times people saying that they wouldn't want to take an expensive bass to the Dog & Trumpet, but what is an expensive bass? I've got several basses that I class as expensive basses, but maybe my idea of expensive is calibrated differently to other people. To me, the threshold is £1000, which may just be an indicator that I'm rather old and my Warwick Thumb cost me £900 in 1988, and that was bloody expensive. I think most of us would agree that a Fodera Yin Yang at £7kish is expensive. But where does everyone else place that marker? This isn't about what you get for the money, or any sentimental value, it's purely a monetary thing. What is the minimum price for a bass to be considered expensive?
  6. And again - Wow!!
  7. I felt the need for a bare minimum board for the occasions where the Big One is overkill. Or I'm too tired/lazy to carry it. Polytune 2(?) > 3 Leaf Audio Mini > Way Huge Pork Loin > BassRig Fifteen All powered by a Truetone OneSpot into the Gigrig modular system.

  10. Wow. . . . just wow!!
  11. Hi folks. I've been making bass cabs up. I've made a 1x15" so far with a Celestion BN15-300X - a little trial and error on the dampening inside and 3d printing my own ports to tune it. So far I'm really happy with it. I've started and made the cab for a 2x10 too. But got nervous before ordering the planned 2x BN10-200X to match the other cab sound wise (as I feel happy with the clear tone I like of the BN15.) So the cab details: MDF 14mm (then clad in recycled pallet wood 8mm thick, so they look cool and rustic (I'll link a pic) External box sizes: 56.5h 45w 36d 2 x 10 BN10-200x 8ohm, but happy to take other ideas on this. But their details: 10" 7.7cm mounting depth 3.5cm magnet depth The cab calculates as an internal cu/ft of: 2.5314 I haven't cut ports yet, but can drill and 3d print to suit. I rear ported last time and plan to do the same. Pic is my 1x15 with the 2x10 cab on top. I hope you like them Bass is my quick pick up Washburn, my 5st Sire M7 is in another room. So the cab needs to be tuned to handle the low B Thoughts greatly appreciated. Thanks Phil Edit: Oh and forgot to add, I'll be making it up as a series/parallel setup, via a cable, to make the pair 8ohm overall to work with my mini Warwick Head. Tho if I like playing one at practice and the other cab at home, I might re-wire to a different setup. For now though, I'd like to try both at once. Although I know people say 1x15 and 2x10 or 4x10 can cause odd waveforms. I'm happy to experience it and see before I settle on using 1, or both cabs. I also love the head, and might upgrade to the 600w Warwick one at some point.
  12. I haven't played a bass with this short a scale, but I know ACG and Alpher make basses like this too. So you'd think they would be playable without suffering from the more compact scale My first thought is contact Newtone and see what options they can do for 23" scale.
  13. I agree with all you say. She wasn't transcribing the Bass part, she was jamming (her take) over the chord changes, which aren't difficult. In fact, anyone with decent relevant pitch would pick up those changes quite quickly, on the fly. That's what good, experienced musicians with a strong ear do. I will add, I think she is a very good musician all round.
  14. It should. Also, you could get to answer 1a) by using something like https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/303990422806 - step down buck converter to a USB output, or https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/176692251941 with solder pad outputs, or https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/397239175045 which is cheaper but uses a 12V input (which you happen to have).
  15. I fixed the tip issue by putting a little masking tape on the threaded end and screwing on the plastic tip. It is now firmly seated and isn't going anywhere. I have now shimmed and set up the bass using my experience of setting up my classic vibe to guide me. Like the classic vibe it now has a set of La Bella flats on. The Vintera exudes quality. As much as I like the Classic Vibe, the vintera just seems a lot more classy.
  16. It's used to be the C8 app and was bloody complicated to use. I think it's been discontinued or renamed. You had to create a job, get it authorised by the manager, do the gig and then get the manager to sign it off. Then wait to get paid. I wasn't a fan as it depended on the manager being efficient.....
  17. I always liked the amps but the cabs weren’t the best to my ears. Surprisingly quiet for the footprint. I hope it’s to your taste.
  18. …. suspect some new soundholes are going to help 👍
  19. I think we often take our lead from orchestral players while forgetting that when there’s 8 or more players in a section individual tuning matters less. And yes, I’d prefer to be in tune whatever it takes 👍
  20. I kind of understand this, whilst I won’t gig my fave Precision as it means too much to me to chance it I would feel guilty if I decided to record with a different instrument, even if it was due to needing a sound the fave couldn’t do.
  21. Very sorry to hear that your father's not well, sir. A lovely gesture.
  22. Today
  23. Enjoy your fully-fitted Christmas! 🙂
  24. That’s not part of a Sandberg relic.
  25. I only have two , a 4 and a 5. Both quite cheap / the four was cheap but a present from partner. the 5 is a sire so not super-expensive cheating isn’t really a thing for me
  26. Ha ha yep I do the same. I find joy in playing cheapy basses even though I know my “better” ones would be great. Sometimes I just love the chance to play seven shades out of a cheap bass on stage and making it work for me. I do feel bad when I leave a bass at home as they are meant to be gigged. First world problems tho eh
  27. There is a snobbery about this kind of thing, when all that really matters is that the end product sounds good. Having listened to numerous DB players, some of whom are revered, some dots (other markers are available) would help immeasurably. I’d rather see lines and dots than listen to pitchy playing.
