Ah gotcha 🙂 I suppose that it's a double edged sword - I want a good sound out of the PA but if it sounds terrible through the IEMs then I won't enjoy the gig. I am more inclined to go with the fact that most of the audience won't know the difference between a precision and a Pickenbacker so a little overdrive in my sound wont be that noticable out front. I may be a one-off, most people want to get a sound that is great through the PA but I want to enjoy the gig as well so won't put up with a crap sound in my IEMs as long as it sounds decent through the PA.

Oh trust me, if I was being funny you'd know about it as I am hilarious. My point was that if you're sitting at home doing late night practice or whatever using IEMs then fine, do whatever sounds best to you. But if you were playing live and using IEMs then you might go to great lengths to get it to sound great to you in your IEMs, and in doing so ruin the sound that the audience hear through your amp or the pa or whatever.

Small sound/big sound mini I would maybe use *both* drive and cab sim. Not sure the best cab sim pedals mind, tc impulse if irs, or broughton high pass/ low pass if doing basic chopping thr ends off - the tonex mini thing might be cheapest smallest thing to give you a whole amp cab at end of chain? 🤷

I remember when I was a young punker in school (there were 3 of us!) all the other lads (cos girls weren't into music, obvs! 😁) had pristine denim jackets their mums had sewed assorted heavy rock band patches onto... And they'd confidently assert that Cozy Powell was the best drummer in the world, bar none. Needless to say, they'd never heard of Billy Cobham... -
Interesting. I had tendons replaced last year as well as the screws in my heel. Generally worked, but if I walked more than a mile or stand for too long the ankle becomes increasingly painful. Went back to see the consultant a few weeks back and he was suggesting fusing, but having seen the CT scan he could see that one of last year’s screws in the heel was out the other side of the bone so we went with “take the screws out of the heel” as that was quick and did not require lengthy recuperation. Hopefully that works and I don’t need to consider more. He can see arthritis in the joint but it’s not too bad. Maybe I should just accept I’m old and need to slow down and make allowances.

The DM610 is a large bookshelf/standmount speaker from renowned hi-fi brand B&W, featuring a well-braced 30-litre sealed cabinet with 8-inch mid-bass driver. The larger driver and extra cabinet space create a much better low end range than from most similar speakers. This model allows for either bi-wiring or bi-amplification. These speakers present clean tight bass response, surprisingly clear mids for such a large driver and the pleasant highs that the well-designed B&W tweeter at that time was famous for. They can be driven quite loud, enough for the physical effect of the bass to be felt without audible distortion or a sense of sound compression. Basschat 203.2mm Cab Design just sounds soooo wrong! I'm bilingual, not only can I work in Metric and Imperial, but I can visualise both as well. Imperial is really convenient when you need things in different sizes with good proportions and need to allocate dimensions into convenient subdivisions. Metric has it's preferred sizes, which can be OK for proportion, but are a nightmare if you are adding different sizes and trying to get to a convenient overall dimension.

Yep, I went to their “factory” unit in Knutsford in Cheshire many years back. Interesting visit, not a big outfit at all, much like Ashdown in Essex, another surprisingly small facility, although Ashdown are looking to expand into surrounding factory units last I heard. Our old bass player used Ohm for years via an Aria ZZ bass, decent sound I seem to remember, although it was 40yrs ago.

Different EQ for flats and rounds?

Not a daft question at all, it’s very common. Flats are darker and mid focused by nature, so using your roundwound EQ just makes them sound muffled. Try boosting mids around 500 Hz, adding a touch of low mids for warmth, and ease off the treble. A bit of valve overdrive or compression often helps bring them to life too. What amp are you running them through? -
The 5.5mm is Xmax not Xlim. The first is the excursion while staying in the magnetic gap (ie controlled and low distortion), and the second is the excursion to the point of damage. Your speaker cone is capable of moving way beyond Xmax. David

I hope it works. I saw a podiatricians and physiotherapists about my left ankle. It's much larger than normal due to extra bone around multiple breaks, and loss of cartilage, so I get bone on bone if my knee goes forward. But to get to the point, the best two things they told me were "we're used to stopping when things hurt so we don't make things worse. Fir this you need to do the opposite, the more it hurts, the more you're keeping mobility and building muscle around the joint" and in more carefully guarded words "A specialist will recommend fusing the joint, don't let them as you will lose so much mobilty which will be really bad long term". They did say that if a specialist offers to clean bone fragments out of the joint, that would be a good thing. TL;DR if offered fusion of the ankle, think very carefully as it could stop you doing a lot of things.
