I bought a G&L L2500 tribute because I felt I was missing out on something by not playing a 5 string. I have to admit it's a great bass and extremely versatile soundwise but I've never actually needed the 5th string, so stick with my 4 strings. I bought an Auralex gramma pad, a dozen years ago, when everyone was going on about them. I used it once or twice and, by mistake, ended up leaving it in a pub that I had played in. I was so underwhelmed by the thing, that I never bothered going back to collect it. These days I just put my amp on a chair, or a beer crate. I bought a Nord string mute, which I have never used live (maybe one day). I bought a John East J-Retro pre amp..... and liked it so much I bought another two! 😊

I played my first couple or three public outings with my practice amp.

I've heard mixed things about some of the copies of the mini lumber jacks, for instance the Tayda ones aren't supposed to be good- finding what is good is a pain
-
Multicomp pro MJ-14SR - it's the multi comp version of the mini Lumberg jacks they seem to have stopped making. CPC id CN21942 Farnell 1737250 if it was a bit of a difference I would understand, CPC seem to be aimed at small volume orders more, but it's crazy difference, and not with discount as it comes down! I'ld buy from CPC but they don't have the Lumberg mono jacks I need

Well, I had it to a band rehearsal the other night and I forgot to mention another source of cost saving in my initial blurb - absolutely zero shielding, not even paint. Needless to say it did not like being in the rehearsal room very much (but the noise gate in my Spectracomp made it bearable when I wasn't touching the strings). No matter, not much cavity to shield! Also, the knob arrived... Looks even better in person - the black knob with silver highlight complements the pickup beautifully. Really pleased with it! -
While we are at it, here is an easy way to know which hand is which: On the right hand, the thumb is on the left.

I meant envelope out, but I have no idea about what I'm saying!

Looks like you never played an aluminium neck Kramer in plain sun or at an outside gig during a frozen winter ... as Kramer or Travis Bean invented the Auto-Detune.

I'd not been playing very long when I bought an acoustic bass because I thought I ought to. I was playing alongside a couple of acoustic guitarist / singers so it'd be the right tool for the job, and imagine the convenience of none of us needing to plug in to rehearse. Yeah. Just imagine it. There have been plenty of bits mentioned in this thread that I've bought 'to see what the fuss was about' and found that I genuinely liked, though... Precision basses, Markbass LM heads, Barefaced cabs, Thumpinator HPFs, SansAmp preamps, digital wirelesses (starting with the L6 G30) - they all arrived via that route and haven't left yet. Of course, I did also buy a TE Elf 🙄

Basses you don't regret selling (or regret buying)
Grooverjr replied to BassAgent's topic in Gear Gallery
Two stand out for me, although I only regret selling one of the basses I have moved on (ACG 5 er which I should have persevered with). Peavey T40. Black with maple board. Probably my favourite looking bass of all time and the neck felt great but tone wise I couldn't find anything anywhere in its multiple knobs that I liked. And it didn't sit nicely with the slab body. Moved it on for more than I paid for it and it mostly covered a Vigier Passion with carbon neck which is IMO the second best looking bass but is also amazing to play and has a bunch of great sounds. Squier jaguar SS. Looks cool, lovely playing neck but just too toy like for my big hands and the generic PJ was just too weedy. Gave it to a good friend with small hands who loves it and it has started to ween him off his guitar foolishness so definitely no regrets. -
?What could be the cause of a hissing sound.
steve-bbb replied to Mickyk's topic in General Discussion
what time of day was it? i used to experience this strange hissing sound during the summer every night at around the same time - after observing the pattern it turned out it was always exactly around 3am - so after several nights listening from the bedroom window i decided to go out the front door into the garden to see if i could hear it any better or identify where it was emanating from turned out to be the local pitch and putt golf course (council owned and run) using an automatic watering system on their greens that was set to a time in the middle of the night when everybody would be fast asleep and hence nobody would realise what they were up to during a rather long hot summer with its accompanying hosepipe ban 🙄 -

The very first gig I went to was at the music Machine ( now koko?) The lineup was Quartz (headlining ) , Girl ( second on the bill) ,and Praying mantis.! Girl was awfully loud and not enjoyable at all ! The 2 loudest indoor gigs I’ve been to , Iron Maiden metal for muthas at the Lyceum ,and Manowar at Hammy O on the Blow Your speaker’s tour ! You had a feeling that Manowar did use All of the Marshall Stack ! A great gig though and we were near the back of the venue. Regarding the Maiden gig , we managed to stay until halfway through the song of the second encore ! ( How many encores were there ?) Many of us couldn’t take any more . This wasn’t helped by Mr Dianno asking the guy at the mixing desk to turn it up ! @police squad have you had band discussion yet?
