  1. Past hour
  2. If I was to buy another bass, it would almost certainly be a shorty.
  3. Its a good way to discover bands you might never have heard of. Today I found an excellent post metal band called Humanfly who were listed as a related artist under a band called Dimscua who I discovered as a related artist under Cult Of Luna. So thats two bands who will sell me gig tickets and a t shirt next time they play Bristol because I found them through streaming. You don't have to use it if you dont want but its there for those who do and its not going to disappear.
  4. I acquired a Talman30 a couple of weeks ago and giggled with it last week. I really enjoyed the experience, a good range of sounds off the PJ set up, the neck was nice and the short scale was fun. Add to that a price of £212 so can't go wrong. I may be tempted to get a more expensive shorty but if I enjoy this one why bother. I was looking at a Sire MM U5 but the talman was so cheap. A lot of bass for your money.
  5. Probably because it wasn’t a proper P bass 😉
  6. what a mighty machine could play some imperial circus dead decadence with this, one of my favourite bands
  7. GigInk over on faceach Rickenfakers
  8. Don't Do Me Like That - Tom Petty
  9. It is likely to be omnidirectional, so more prone to feedback. You can get cardioid headset mics https://www.audio-technica.com/en-gb/microphones/wired/best-for/presentation/pro8hex?_gl=1*1rbx919*_up*MQ..*_ga*MzA0NzkzNjQxLjE3NjE3NjA2ODY.*_ga_9B1Z5FDEW6*czE3NjIzNzA4MDgkbzIkZzEkdDE3NjIzNzA4OTQkajUzJGwwJGg4NTQ2NzE4Njg.
  10. Just because it's there we should try to use it? Woof - no thanks.
  11. What a f***ing beauty 👍
  12. Agreed. I wish all my Spectors' bridges were as close to the edge of the body as possible, even if sacrificing high fret reach. Which issue I, as a cellist student turned to bass player never understood, cellos don't have cutaways still you have to reach up high if you have to play notes there. (Full disclosure: I do understand it can be an issue for some, but if I ever play around and over the 20th fret is 99% tapping which overrides the cutaway issue FOR ME)
  13. 2x Headrush 112's Surface marks but overall good condition, one with a cover. I've used these for home practice, standalone amps for gigs and bass monitors while playing in a rock band and they've been great, but have my eye on setting else. 14. Look at the dispersion angle of the speakers and the distance apart. Generally straight ahead with a slight toe-in. Too much cross-fireing will increase reflections and cause dead spots at the side of the front.
  15. You Are Awful, But I Like You - Dick Emery
  16. This ^^ And this too! ^^
  17. Anyone know where I can get a custom TRC for a Ric? I’m want a ‘CurvyBacker’!
  18. I’ve been playing short scales for a long time. Started off with Danelectro Longhorns, and still got one. More recently it’s been a Squier Jaguar, Sire U5 ( which I’m going to sell on here soon, plug plug), Fender Kingman v2, as well as really short ones such as Taylor and Ibanez acoustics. I still use long scale basses but must admit I’m finding the shorties that bit more comfortable these days.
  19. I like a nice bit of Sapele. Those bodies are looking good.
  20. I certainly do gig with one, I find the string to string balance and thickness of the notes high up really useful. The Fallout is a pretty versatile bass....I don't sound that different whatever bass I play, for better or worse, after all these years.
  21. I'm selling this Eden EX210 300watt 4 ohm speaker cabinet in good condition. It's not as hifi as the D series but it's very portable and gives you all the clout needed for a lot of gigs. Includes press on castors (never used as it's small and light 20kg) and manual should you want it. Full spec here: https://www.edenamps.com/product/ex210/ Collection from East Finchley London N2, now £125.
  22. Never considered sparkles... but got this and love the finish so much!
  23. Here ya go Post a pic of the body, better still start a thread in the build diaries
  24. Nice Post... I likes an oil finnish. Satisfying to apply without that spray faff There is a most splendid post on the very same by our @Andyjr1515 I'll do a search and link it. First couple i did was Screw Fix Danish Oil. Can stay quite tacky for a while, so slow progress. Tru-Oil is much easier to apply, less mess, and gives a much better feel especially with a bit of beeswax and a buff after. This body mod 'n Tru-oil on this SR300 thanks to @Andyjr1515 And an SR500 i sanded down, till i got fed up with sanding... then applied a few coats of Tru-Oil with one of those green scourers, then some wax Oh, and a Harley Benton... And a T-Bird Oiled wood finish, Passive, Rear Route... You get the idea...
  25. Today
  26. Ibanez AGB200 or the tastefully reliced AGBR200. They are short scale basses but very nice to play and a lovely 'woody' sound.
  27. I used to gig with an Epiphone EB 3 which had awful neck dive and sounded very muddy. I've used Gretsch Electromatic which looked nice (I love the Les Paul shape) but lacked definition as well. That's moved on to a better home (my dep in the band). I have an Ibanez EHB1000s which I've used as my main bass where space is an issue, and as a back up as it's small and convenient and I can dial in a decent sound. I also gig an Ibanez AGBV200 semi acoustic. Short scale basses are easier to play for me as I have guitard sized hands, but I still prefer long scale. But if I have a tricky fast piece to record, I'll usually reach for a shorty.
