  1. Past hour
  2. I think, this is from situations I've been in, it's the continuous wash of a 'what are the chords?' ( rather than a specific part) chord bashing type guitarist. Particularly on a piezo equipped acoustic into a PA. I've never found any amount of, or quality of, bass gear that can cope with the lack of space in the arrangement. Keyboard lefthand obviously also. I would always choose the right part played at the right time on mediocre gear over the opposite. I remember reading an article with George Massenburg being asked about how you make a great record. He just said all you need is a great musical arrangement....he didn't say one of his mega fancy mastering EQs or anything.
  3. Coming to China is always an option 😁 There's a direct flight from London to where I live twice a week.
  4. Hi Eddie, I’ve sent you a personal message (it’s like an email, but you check it here). See you’re in Frome, so not too far away. Sorry to hear about the bass problems!
  5. The one in The Gallery is a nice thing. I tried it the other day. Thin neck, nice tone, looks the part. My reservation is that I think it might be a bit pricey for what it is. But I guess the gallery has overheads that we don't. Your shortscale will undoubtedly be nicer to play, and what with these both being quite 'thumpy' semi acoustic basses, I doubt the scale length will make any real diff to the tone. GLWTS!
  6. For £130 GBP delivered to you in the U.K., you won't find a better combo and it ticks all your boxes @sshorepunk ... it also has a tilting handle on the underside to use it as a wedge. Really the best buy for you. I toured with just this and a fretless in a fusion band (two electric guitarists and a light touch drummer/percussionist) for a year, and was always complemented for my tone by everyone including the sound engineers.
  7. I’ve been to one of those .. Bob geldof did a very, very half-hearted set and girlsschool did their best to look like travel agents on a lunch break Only highspot was watching the very petite Enid from girlsschool wrangle a p bass very adroitly
  8. Yes, I've recently picked up a Melvin Lee Davis NU-X preamp and that certainly sorts stuff out. Haven't tried it with the Space 4 yet, though.
  9. Broken strings - James Morrison
  10. This is my ear worm at the moment, i seem to be singing it all day. So this is what i'm listening to, there is a why, and that is I am playing this arrangement at the moment. One rehearsal and can't get it out of my head. Barry Manilow back Piano duties with Bette on this one.
  11. Not very small at all, but it's a great choice for what you want and really cheap:
  12. I know what you mean Dave - it's like you have an indicator that you're really going for it! 🤣
  13. Nice footage of 6 Denmark St. interesting for pistol fans.
  14. Had a great time at the Rock & Blues Custom Show in Derbyshire yesterday! Funny story, you know that delightful chap who likes to scam old people and Facebook marketplace folk? His Queen act dropped out last minute and we filled the slot!
  15. Totally agree the off-set body is really comfortable with a great balance
  16. Wilton Felder on this too.
  17. Recently picked this up from Happy Jack (who is an absolute gentleman). It is a wonderful instrument; looks amazing, sounds great, build quality is exceptional. Unfortunately for me though this was my first try with a short scale bass and it does not agree with my lanky body at all. Having done a couple of gigs with it and put some decent hours in at home I know in my heart it's not going to work out for me. As I mentioned on IM to Jack, I don't think I've ever wanted to love a bass as much but known that it's just not to be. Here is a link to the recent listing with additional photos and details: Some additional information: The bass was originally fretless. A previous owner had it fretted. It's very good job, including the blacking out of the original side dots and replacement with new markers in the correct fretted positions. The bass has a set of Richter electronics in. I'd not come across these before, it's an excellent system. Controls are: 1) Volume/pan between piezo and mag pickups 2) Bass/treble with push/pull on the treble for passive bypass. With the tone controls set to flat I can't tell any difference between active and passive. There is no passive tone but the treble cut has a very similar quality. 3) Mid/mid frequency Access is through removal of the pickguard. The Richter piezo preamp is easily accessible there and features a trim pot for each individual saddle. I've set this so the overall output is a slightly higher than the mag pickup as I'd liked this mix for the center setting of the pan. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwjduPeD0NyOAxWDXkEAHVyNPVAQFnoECBQQAQ&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.richter-ee.de%2Fpreamps2.html&usg=AOvVaw2P6r7UL8DDXNxMVEcfLDMv&opi=89978449 Full spec as per the original build is: Scale Length Short Scale 30" Number of Frets 20 Frets Body Construction Hollowbody Body Wood Alder Top Wood Eye Poplar Veneer Walnut Color Type Natural Body Binding Without Binding Body Finish Gloss Pickguard 3ply Cream Neck Wood Flamed Maple Neck Finish Matte Neck Profile Modern C Nut Width 40mm Carbon Rods No Fingerboard Wood Macassar Ebony Fingerboard Radius 14'' Headstock Type Matching Headstock (Natural) Headstock Finish Gloss Headstock Logo Silver Nut Black Pickup Combination Single Coil (SSC) Manufacturer Bassculture Pickup Finish Pickguard Color Neck Pickup Bassculture SSC 'Cream' Hardware Color Chrome Knobs Type Dome-Style Tuner Type Standard Y-Style Security Locks Without Security Locks String Type Flatwound The bass is strung E-C with what are believe are the original factory strings. There are no issues with these at all. To my fingers they feel like an E-C set of Labella DTFs. Hope that's helpful but any questions let me know. Happy to talk about trades as well as a cash sale, if I'm honest my main aim is to find this wonderful instrument a good home as it deserves to be loved and played.
  18. And he's worked with Ozzy, Metallica, and Alice in Chains.
  19. It wouldn't open on my phone either. I had to download it on my MacBook.
  20. And Queens of the Stone Age, after Elton told Josh they should have a real Queen in the band 😆
  21. Reverend FTW. Was about to say "saves me taking a bass" but then I remembered that my Triad 4 has a 10 way switch, so I guess you (and others) might be interested in that so I had better bring it.
