Why were older basslines so much more interesting?

I guess there’s always also the old chestnut that the old music we’re still listening to now is the stuff that was good, and the stuff from back then that was terrible has been justly forgotten. -

A HX stomp can be had for £400 used, less if you get a bargain. That won't buy you many single pedals these days, especially when you'll also need a board, some patch cables, a power supply... Edit - Stuck in a boring work meeting ("no updates from me thanks") and got to thinking. My small analogue board is a PT Nano and a Cioks Adam, with a Korg Pitchblack, Darkglass VMT and Tech 21 Paradriver. Thomann tells me that's £715 these days, not including the velcro or the patch cables, and admittedly with the current smallest Cioks unit which does look a little better than the Adam. The HX Stomp is £545. It would be cheaper and smaller for me to buy the Stomp, superglue the 3 switches to tuner, overdrive and amp emulation, and never use any of the other blocks. Madness.

Hey all, looking to move on my GR Cube 800 1x12 combo. Basically as new condition. Has done two gigs and other than that mainly has been used as a home practice amp. It sounds ace and weighs 9.5kg!! Even still has all the plastic covering the shiny bits. Comes with the manufacturers branded fitted cover. current cost is about £1400 including then cover. So £950 seems a bit of a bargain!

Yes, this is correct. As a bassist, in this style of music the rhythm you play is much more important than getting in other scalar notes or runs. For now I'd stick with playing just the root, 5th and octave of each change for now. Listen to the bassist on track and copy the rhythms even if you choose different notes. You can always get more advanced later. Bb/C is a https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slash_chord To clarify, over that chord, continue use the notes C (root) G (fifth) and C (octave) - not Bb and F.

Ah you have the Bb (flat 7th) instead of the 5th at the ends. I think I have to agree with you on that.

Bassline needed: Lose it by Ben L'oncle
Killerfridge replied to solo4652's topic in General Discussion
Also, please ignore everything ChatGPT says about chord progressions. It's pretty awful at that sort of thing, and regularly just makes stuff up. For instance, here's its take on Red Baron (which just goes G7, C7, and a unision line): - Today

So minor correction, I think it's: Intro: | C |Bb/C |F |Ab Bb| Verse: | C |Bb/C |F |Ab Bb| Prechorus: |F |Ab Bb | Chorus: | C |Bb/C |F |Ab Bb| -

NBD: Ibanez SRMD205 Mezzo 5 string. Medium scale

Hey thank you very much! Applying the measurements you said I realize that basically the Jazz pickup will have to be where the upper half of the P is now (I mean the one for the low strings) -
-
Yeah I found that if playing something like In The City by The Jam, which starts on the C on the G string, then adding in a bit of this function - say 8 o’clock on the control- works fine, adding a bit more body to the sound, but any more than that I find unusable.
-
I would say you've pretty much nailed this. I'm away from my bass right now but I would say the only thing to check is the last note of the bridge. I had that as a chromatic walk up from G to Ab(G#) which is the 5th of the new key of C#. Try playing it instead of the C# to see what I mean and report back? Bear in mind I'd never heard of this song before your post. It's that half step movement that "announces" the new key is coming.

DOD Milk Box Compressor, purchased recently from Reverb for £90. Nice, thick, and indeed creamy compressed tone. On purchase I found that it doesn't work with a battery but is just fine with a normal power supply. Priced with that in mind, and I think this is still a good price for one of these. Prices have gone up since the glowing review on the Ovnilab website! Free postage and open to offers.

That’s fair. I’ve never bought an amp and cab before only combos. Not sure on any other options.

I know I was going to get these responses 🙈. Maybe I’m just being tight hahahahhahahahaha
