Not sure if of interest but the Canadian Petrucci score library has a huge amount of free double bass music. This is all content that’s legally free to download, share and distribute. Lots of things of interest (if you like the bow!) https://clara.imslp.org/?k=Bass&tab=works&ins=Double+bass|%3D%3D|1|false

Bloopdad1 started following Pirastro Olivs?! Rant alert.
-
Unfortunately the price of strings has rocketed over the last 10yrs. Its around £1000 for a 4 string set of Eudoxas and a little bit less for Olives (and many of us play 5 string basses raising the cost to £1350 - if we were to pay top whack). There was a time when you couldn't get a chair in a section if you didn't have Eudoxas on your bass... But back then the Pirastro rep would pop in the bass room and just fill up the basket with a few sets to be used free of charge. Not these days. Many bassists just stick a set of Evahs on and wait for them to get really old and thuddy (I have Evahs on the top 4 and an original Flat Chrome B). Instead of going to Bass Bags, try asking your Luthier to order for you, they often have an account with Pirastro and will have a little discount. Also keep an eye out on Amazon of all places... Sometimes a set of Eudoxas pop up at almost half price! Also consider Tempera Hybrids - they're very close to gut and come in around £450. Might suit you better if you're primary a pizz player as they're quite soft. Also look at the Passione strings if you're mainly arco (thuddy pizz though) Evah slaps wouldn't be used.

Wow! That looks amazing @Grainger guitars A truly fitting instrument given the reasons behind why it's being made. I'm sure Nick would have loved it.

Has anyone managed to compare these two in a band settings? I know Andertons have a shoot out with both in it (and totally wrong info about the tube), but id like to hear from actual users if there are any. I just got the Nux and other than the software/connection side i think it’s really nice. Very usable tones. My worry is that the IR’s are making it sound great, but without that turned on it sounds just ok. I dont think id use the IR’s with a bass rig but will at home. The Digbeth seems to be more versatile, but larger and doesnt have the IR. I like the idea of the Tilt knob. Any thoughts? Not looking for recommendations for anything else, just wondering about how these two compare. The

Unsure how to react to this with a single emoji, so yay for great gig, and boo for health issues - hope you're on the mend soon!

My gig last night was great, and the main reason for it, was that we played a lot quieter. My band is a great bunch of chaps, and we all get along really well. However, the drummer is/can be, one of the loudest drummers I’ve ever played with. On the last gig in a theatre, I spent a long time meticulously refining the sound during sound check, it was superb, then in the first set, adrenaline and enthusiasm got the better of the drummer and he overwhelmed the mix we’d created and we all had to up the volume to hear ourselves. We had words at half time, and the second set was better. This week at rehearsal, the band leader instigated a discussion about stage volume, and the drummer took it well. So last night, he brought different cymbals (quieter ones) and played in a much more restrained manner. I used a BF One10 and a GK class D head. It really worked, and the audience absolutely loved it. We could all hear every nuance, and our dynamics improved. The drummer did admit that the gig was better for it. So from a great gig last night, I woke at 4am this morning in a lot of abdominal pain, tried 111, which was hopeless, walked into an Urgent Treatment Centre at 8am, was examined and referred to A&E. Suspected acute appendicitis, but after scans and bloods, it turns out to be diverticulitis. They’re keeping me in for a couple days on IV antibiotics and painkillers. Marvellous! Rob

Yesterday's gig was a last minute booking. Rhythm guitarist couldn't make it due to dog illness... but dog turned out to be ok so managed to make it. Lovely old pub but in a small marquee outside, and a yellow weather warning. The warning was lifted and we set up to a healthy number of people. Numbers drifted up and down but it was a good gig. In our break and afterwards we could hear another band playing behind the pub opposite. Had a real 'festival' feel with people wandering between the venues and good vibes. We haven't gigged for a bit and were a touch scrappy but the punters didn't notice. Anyway, rehearsal on Tuesday as we have more gigs approaching. I had a bit of fun with effects, second encore was Superstition so I used the Joyo XVI with a bit of modulation to get a crazy synth sound. This was the tail end of the first set. I have no idea why audiences love this song, it's just three chords, repeated....

Erica Synths Pico System III Eurorack Version This is a fantastic two oscillator modular system with sequencer, delay and mixer. You can also use ‘preset’ cards to access sounds instantly. It comes with 5 pre patched cards and 5 to create your own sounds. One I’ve already patched to make a simple test preset for the sequencer which can easily be desoldered and reset. The unit is boxed and comes with manual, splitter, cards, overlay ‘patches’ and blank cards. It is in excellent condition and includes the ribbon lead to connect to your eurorack. The patch leads in the first photograph are not included. Note that this is the eurorack version and not the standalone version. A great modular synth in excellent condition. Price includes UK postage.
