Boss WL-50 £100 posted
Paul S posted a topic in Accessories & Other Musically Related Items For Sale
Boss WL-50. Performed for every gig and rehearsal without a glitch for 5 or more years until I switched to the Legato bugs. No box but here's the Boss page: https://www.boss.info/global/products/wl-50/ These are just shy of £200 new, I'm asking £100 posted to UK mainland. Alternatively try before you buy in Benfleet, Essex.-

I think if I wanted a pointyhead 80s hair-metal bass, I'd find a real pointyhead 80s hair-metal bass. It wouldn't be £1400, it would almost certainly be MIJ, not Indonesian, and it would probably have one of those amazing multicoloured crackle finishes. That said, I didn't want one back when they were current & I certainly don't want one now. Not sure who the target market for stuff like this is in 2025, tbh.

I just found one. I am in the US, so we don't see many of these at all. An identical version of yours popped up and I was lucky enough to have the seller ship it over seas to me. I will be waiting a while for it.. Looks like a really nice bass

If played avoiding overuse of vibrato and not sliding into every note, most people won’t notice. Listen to Boz Burrell on the first 2 Bad Co albums, there are clues to the use of fretless, but they are very, very subtle and if you don’t know what to listen for, they’re easy missed.

I absolutely agree with spending time with it when you can but if you just need a basic tone stick the noble DI model in and whatever drives you’d want and it’ll sound spot on. I went into my first gig blind when it first came out and it sounded great. Most of the blocks sound good as soon as you load them up which I suppose is the advantage of a bass specific unit

Interested in this because I dropped my bass (Shen SB100 ply) off in Toronto for some bridge work and maybe some fingerboard dressing. The luthier thinks that the dull sound is probably due to several problems but will check the sound post first, he thinks it is too tight and won't allow the top to vibrate properly. He was a Shen dealer and was surprised at the dull sound considering that the bass was strung with 2 year old Spiro mittels, I'll report after I get it back next week.

Dingwall Combustion 5, Vintage Burst. Excellent condition, with Dingwall gig bag. I bought this from fellow BC’er kwmlondon earlier this year after seeing my hero Leland Sklar play in London last January, which caused me to become somewhat “multiscale curious”. Sadly, after playing parallel fretted basses professionally for well over 40 years I have found adapting to the fanned frets not as straightforward as I would have hoped. This really is a great sounding and versatile instrument, so rather than putting it away in my guitar cupboard I have decided to move it on to someone a bit more adaptable. I have only used it at home and on one gig so it is pretty much in almost perfect condition. It also comes with 2 alternative scratch plates (black & clear), as well as the tort plate fitted currently. Additionally, the previous owner managed to get Sheldon Dingwall to sign the back of the headstock! (See pic). Collection in person is preferred, but I can ship at buyers expense to the UK only (cost to be assessed). Please PM with any questions.

Maybe I just don't have the GAS gene. Then again I still have/use the first electric I ever bought as a teenager in 1983 which freaked someone out on a different thread. The wife jokes are pretty funny though. (I assume they're jokes??) Mine built me a storage rack for the instruments that I do own. I can't believe I never thought for that. It's great!

I got my Mustang JMJ precidely for this reason - lugging bass and occasional other misc gear around London's various public transport options. Doing ok so far! Although to paraphrase Ian Faith, sometimes topsy-turvy world of public transport, having the good solid piece of a long-scale bass in your hand is often useful.

Okay. Bit of context. At the moment I have: '89 2EQ Stingray, the one I've been talking about. A Harley Benton 5 string unlined fretless that I pick up and play occassionally and have plans for - I've done a few practise sessions with a guitarist mate and it'd be lovely for a two-piece as we harmonise quite well. Dingwall AB 5-string that's got an issue with the preamp and is with Bass Direct for a couple of weeks while they get replacement bits in For the last few days I've been doing my daily practise on the 'Ray and it is soooooo nice to play. Honestly, strung with Elites it's so easy to fly around the fretboard though it requires incredibly accurate fretting, but it's so responsive. Good god, it's got a hot output. When I gigged with it I just whacked the bass and treble up to full but now I find the tone insane. I am starting to recognise why so many players move from a Stingray to a Jazz as they get older though backing off the bass and treble can tame it, it's kind of like having a sports bike and putting stability wheels on it. What's the point in having all that power if you don't use it? Anyway. I'm still erring on the side of selling it but I'm not in a hurry. I am in the process of acquiring something that could help me make my mind up so will keep you posted how that turns out...

Just placed my order with GuitarGuitar, and it should arrive tomorrow. Eeek! I doubt I'll be able to dial in the tones I need in time for this weekend's gig, but I understand it's easier and quicker to achieve a good tone with it than with the Helix, so I'll wait and see.
