Garageband Vs Logic Pro - Which one should I choose?
BigRedX replied to loud_melody's topic in Recording
There's no easy way to answer this, without knowing exactly what you want to do and how you expect to work. I'm a Logic user, but there's a good chance that a lot of the time GarageBand would do everything I need. The synth player in my band does a lot of his initial ideas in GarageBand on the iPad because he finds it very immediate. Those GarageBand projects will open up directly into Logic with all the sounds and settings preserved and then we can work on them in more detail if necessary. It depends whether you want to spend £199 on Logic and be faced with an extra layer or two of complexity before you can start composing or recording. My advice would be to start with GarageBand and if you regularly find yourself wanting to do things that are beyond its capabilities then consider upgrading to Logic. As I said you won't loose you existing work because Logic will open all your old projects directly and they will sound exactly the same as they did in GarageBand. -

In my industry (graphic design and artwork) the people who lost their jobs through the introduction of computers were those who couldn't be bothered to learn to use the new methods. I started off with the traditional methods of working in the 80s and those core skills I learnt were the things that meant I didn't mess up when I transferred over to the computer. For me I was just using a mouse and keyboard and looking at a screen instead of drawing pens, cow gum and rulers on a drawing board. It's also those core skills that keep me in business today where a lot of my work comes from sorting out "designs" done on the computer that can't actually be printed properly.

I was a massive fan of Stuart, BC and The Skids - when Fields Of Fire came out, & subsequently The Crossing, it coincided with me starting to take songwriting & composition seriously, and using the guitar as a writing tool. It's entirely fair to say he was my single biggest influence as a guitar player & songwriter at that point. I got the opportunity to meet him briefly in the early 90s & told him so - he seemed genuinely humble & flattered. Such a loss, it broke my heart when he took his life.

Sounds like the sample from Cypress Hill “Insane in the membrane”.

PS, its pictured with La Bella Mustang Superpolished strings (a recently introduced sort of flat/round hybrid). I decided I preferred the regular Mustang flats (pictured in clear bag with tort s/p) which are now back on the bass. However, I am happy to throw in the Superpolished set as part of the deal, so you have options.

I cannot offer anything concrete, but I noticed that on TalkBass the estate of Rick Jones does seem to be giving out schematics of the AI heads to repair companies. I don't know under what circumstances they do this. Also in the same thread there's someone who replaced the Ice Power module of a Clarus head. Good luck with it all. I love AI stuff URL: https://www.talkbass.com/threads/acoustic-image-amp-repair.1612863/

Your best (and worst!) bass gear purchases of 2025?
Barabass replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
What I meant is that “strange” might not be the right word and may cause confusion. What I wanted to say is that a cab can be FRFR, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it will sound cold or sterile. With the Monza that’s definitely not the case, and I find that remarkable and very pleasant. EDIT: I think I now understand what you mean @Stub Mandrel If you use an effect like the Bassrig and amplify it through an FRFR system, you still end up with a coloured sound. So why would you choose an FRFR in the first place? I can follow that question. My experience is that the Monza reproduces the sound of the P‑bass, the Bassrig, and ultimately the Quilter BB800 in a really pleasing way. The cabinet reproduces the colouring created by the Bassrig exactly as intended. And if I want a different sound for another music style, that’s possible too. That makes the entire rig more versatile. - Today

Great writer and performer. Sadly missed. And as for Big Country? What a collection of musicians. Made some cracking music.
