    Cab covers

So far I'm really liking it: 11kg is light enough to pick up with one hand, relatively small - but still has a decent visual impact , feels like good build quality, it sounds good and seems to go loud enough - I've only done one full-band rehearsal with it though , two gigs coming up at the weekend and one is outside playing some Reggae so that'll be a good test. I'm all about making gigging/rehearsal life as easy as possible nowadays and it is great for that. I've got just one Bass and that is a 3.4kg headless that rarely needs tuning and fits in a guitar bag, a single small Multi-FX unit that I barely touch other than selecting 'clean', dub' or 'dirt' presets, relatively small/light Ashdown RM500 EVO II amp (although that is the next thing I might downsize, partly due to the annoying fan noise for home practice), and now this Markbass cab means I can carry everything from the car in one go (and it all fits in the back of a small hatchback). Keeping all of my pedal and amp settings the same as my old Tecamp 2x12 (600w) the Markbass sounded a bit more responsive/punchy, a bit cleaner/more hi-fi but a bit less of the 'weighty' sound low-end rumble and trouser-flapping air movement. But that was without cutting the Markbass tweeter or making any Amp/pedal EQ adjustments, I expect with a bit of bass boosting it'll sound close enough....although I suppose it would be a lot to ask a 2x10 400w Cab that goes down to 40Hz to have the same low-end air moving quality of a 600w 2x12 that goes to 36Hz, that Tecamp could really do that Jurassic Park shake the liquid in your glass thing, not sure the Markbass can to the same extent. There is always the option to add another Cab (I was thinking perhaps a 1x15) if that overkill low end is needed.
  4. It’s a great bass had since they first came out , but I bought an Atelier z 4 string and it has become the only bass I’m paying now . Thanks for the comments guys
  5. Interesting. I had considered wiring a variable resistor into the series position, so I could adjust the output. I decided that a) I quite liked the "onboard boost" effect, and b) I couldn't be arsed. This is a recurring problem with me and instrument wiring. Generally by the time I get to the wiring stage on one of my instruments, I've put in 40-60 hours of work over several months and I just want the damn thing to play. Finesse tends to go out the window.
  6. Here are two diagrams from Cadfaels with the serial place on the switch better positioned (to avoid huge differences in output). The second one uses Leds, which can be interesting too. Click 3 times on the image to have it in full definition.
  7. Lots of good comments everyone, some I agree with some I don’t, but interesting to read all the different opinions.
  8. That's büggered up the plans for a lot of Nativity plays this Christmas. But seriously... that begs the question, should Jews play Christians? Can a Muslim play a Hindu? Is it a matter of faith or origin? If your mother was an aethist and your father followed Shinto, can you play either, both or just the mixture? All these 'rules' sound like special pleading once you start to look at the underlying logic. Where do you draw the lines? Can anyone portray a fictional character or sing a figurative song as there's no real lived experience?
  9. this is a little awkward…thank you for thinking about me, I lost all my login deets (hence the rebrand) but yeah Phil The Bassist here sayin’ hi! 👋
  10. Yeah seen similar stuff, like straight people shouldn’t play gays etc. Gonna be pretty stuffed when the next film about a mass murderer gets written, who do they let out of jail to play the lead?
  11. Not being a fan of to-the-note-and-word covers, I'd say do it, but make it your own. Put a spin on it, a different feel, different instrumentation, whatever. But don't copy it. Copies are rarely more than a shadow of the original.
  12. Status Graphite uses a very similar (if not the same) jack socket, and sells them in their online store at 3 GBP. Their site doesn't allow hotlinking because it uses frames, but when you go to their online shop section, under "Spare parts", click the "Jack sockets etc" button and scroll nearly all the way down.
  13. I’ve never considered anything other than fuses to do the job of protecting the transformers from excess current. Every valve amp circuit I’ve ever seen has used fuses. The front panel may not look quite so clean when I label all the controls!
  14. If musicians want to play some music that's strongly identified with a culture, ethnicity or race that's not their own then that's a wholly positive thing. Whether they make a good job of interpreting and performing the music is an entirely different discussion, but to say that certain music is out-of-bounds is ridiculous. You can't use potential offense as a yardstick for what is and isn't permissable. All kinds of people get offended about all kinds of things. Individuals have a right to cause offense. They may be justified in doing so. Human beings are capable of infinite subtlety and music is one of the sublime expressions of that subtlety. That so many people would give such conscientious consideration to a dogma that places offense and historical grievances above all else is an ominous development. Even if those things were true they would not justify compromising anyone's right to freedom of expression. . If you want to play Fela Kuti then play Fela Kuti. If it sounds crap and/or you look ridiculous playing it, we'll let you know. The responsibility for making a decent job of it is yours.
  15. Evil Hearted You - The Yardbirds
  16. By all means ask questions, I don't mind.
  17. Forgive me if it's obvious but when are said bashes? I figured about the Pickups but even so it is very odd to get four misbuilt ones direct from EMG.
  18. Bad Bad Leroy Brown - Jim Croce
  19. Naz-Tee May'en - Fishbone
  20. The GSS Bulletpack runs on DC and has a barrel socket, so you have options with batteries meant for laptops. GSS also sell compatible batteries on their website, but I only own the amp. It's kept up with loud big bands in village halls but I've never used it outside. If I am able to make this bash, I'll see if I can bring it along.
  21. If you think non-jewish actors playing Jewish characters is as bad as blackface you must also object to this:
  22. If you read the published stats you will find that obviously has to be true as most men between 30 and 49 have 3 or fewer friends and 15% have none. If you are not living where you grew up that goes up to 1/4. Even when I was young and had quite a lot of friends, most of them were not musical at all, I certainly couldn't make a group now, even if they lived close.
  23. Excellent! Haven't seen her since leaving school... Apparently "more than half" of the tickets have been sold - perhaps we'll almost have a crowd. Even Swamp's coming!
  24. Prepaid, hopefully... See you soon!
