  1. Past hour
  2. Spector. Job done. Next, please!
  3. It is beginning to dawn on me the enormity of the task that lies ahead of me. 14 basses (15 if I get my JC fixed in time), 2 amps, the ironmongery. I know I keep saying "go big or go home" but is it getting silly?
  4. I have no horse in this race as I don’t do headless basses any more. I‘d like to correct two points made before, though: I‘ve had Afterburners clocking in at 3.4 kg that were perfectly balanced. I also own one of eight "Afterburner Heavy Solids" / ABHS weighing 5.5 kg and while it certainly is more stone than feather, it feels lighter than most Les Pauls on a strap. Like it or not in terms of its aesthetic - but ergonomically, the AB design is perfect. (I‘ll give you the first few frets being hard to reach if you’re of smaller limb but that’s what the reach reducing pin is for.) Also, Strandberg basses were released in February 2019, not 2007.
  5. It arrived this afternoon. Nice enough bag, certainly way tougher (and better looking) material than 20-denier nylon, but not yet convinced it's £330 worth. We'll see. Something that was clear immediately is that it's a very snug fit for the Alcoa, especially over the bridge. Hmmmmm. I can read that as a good thing and as a bad thing.
  6. I have to say Russ, I respectfully disagree that a G&L L2000 sounds anything like a Wal. I don't want to sound pedantic, but then again this is a bass guitar forum, so I'm gonna be! I agree with you on the rest, though. G&L needed to do a better job letting the world know about their superb instruments. I hear the same proposition quite often, usually from American bass players who admire Justin Chancellor but can't get hold of a Wal. My theory is that someone first came up with this notion based on the fact that the G&L pickups look a bit similar to those on a Wal. The rest is wishful thinking. Don't get me wrong, an L2K is a wonderful bass in its own right with a powerful and forthright tone, but sonically it's dissimilar to a Wal because of it's inherent mid scoop, both in series and parallel mode. It's got some MusicMan DNA somewhere in those pickups and electronics that give it a bit of a cut in a narrow band of mid frequencies, whereas the Wal has a consistent midrange presence no matter how you set the controls. With or without the filter preamp engaged the Wal has got that rubbery midrange thing going that makes them so great. The G&L might be able to mimic some of the Wal's top end and bass thump, but the mids are what really make the Wal sound.
  7. Yes I put La Bella flats on mine.. makes the sound really authentic... Didn't like those weird bronzed rounds at all. I took some advice from someone on TalkBass and got a lighter gauge than I would normally use, so they fit in the nut grooves, which would've needed making wider otherwise.. sound is still fat and the strings feel right.. 😁😎 I have a guitar guy who sets up stuff for me (lazy!) but not much had to be done to it...
  8. This is a real test of my pocket...
  9. I have a Tonerider Duke in my Fazley Hot Rod (the "ratlet") and I'm very impressed. Between this and the Entwistle PBXN (neodymium) - I don't see any need to spend more on a split P pickup.
  10. I could live with a set of CARs
  11. I had a one of these on my Precision and throughly agree with the comments. I swapped them out for a fender vintage ‘63, which I picked up on here for a good price. The Tonerider IMHO, is in the same league, although I prefer the Fender pickup by a smidge. Price wise, however, the Tonerider wins hands down and I’d gladly fit it on another bass should circumstance arise.

  13. Hmmm that is a cool bass.
  14. It looks pretty good although there's a side by side vid with a Digitech whammy I think I prefer the tobe of the DigiTech. The boss is almost a bit too perfect. Saying that I have a boss gt-1000 core and have been happy with the whammy in that. The drop tuning in it seems very very good. Will be interesting to see if this and the new algorithms they used on the plugout turns up in a new multi at some point.
  15. Boss ABY switcher, I used to run two basses on a gig and this made it easy to quickly switch between them. Can be used for that purpose or to run one Input and switch between two outputs (effects loops, amps etc). I have no use for this so siting in a box. Yours for £20 posted. Open to offers. Runs on AAA batteries.

  16. I'm in.
  17. Only for the complete bankers of the world.
  18. Toneriders make PUPs that should make us all realise we’re being fed a load of shit by some of the better known and more expensive manufacturers 😡
  19. I am interested in the baby one (XS-1) but only if it represents a big leap forward from the TC Electronic Brainwaves I currently use. Now can we please get all the guitar noise out of the way and someone please demo it with bass?
  20. Today
  21. Is it the black one from the Bass Gallery?
  22. Off topic I know but is anybody in a band that could dep for us (In Like Flynn) at the Merriott Social Club TA16 5NP from 9 til 11 tomorrow night? Our singer seems to coming down with a bug that's started in her throat today. Fraid it's one of the first bookings we took when we launched the new band so not great money at £320. If you can help, please PM me or call me on 07770 946135. If you want to see the kind of stuff we do visit inlikeflynnband.com and jump on our show reel. Thanks, Mike
  23. You’re like me, I love a sunburst vintage Fender, never been too keen on custom colours (thankfully with prices these days), but Oly white is fab on a Jazz. Lucky to have an original finish stack knob in Oly White. The collection in the auction is a great set of CAR’s though if that’s your thing.
  24. I received my preloved G&L L2000 today. It came with flats, which I really am not keen on, but they sounded fine. I fitted it with a used set of rounds, which is my preferred type of string and it's still sounding excellent. The action was a bit high but after a bit of trussrod tweaking managed to get a ridiculously low action on it and it's playing great.
  25. OK, lets DO THIS! 🤘
