  1. Past hour
  2. I belive the neck pockets are speced the same... experience would be down to tolerances of neck and body and QC. Might be nice 'n snug, might be a place to store a plectrum! Heel thickness may also effect bridge saddle height, 'decked' saddles? More frequent is the P with a J Neck (like my bitsa) swap so they fit.
  3. ...and the first 3 pics were going so well... like #3 T Bird Ledge. Then... #Noseybonk
  4. πŸ˜…πŸ˜‚ well, all I can say is I’m jealous of you and not Tony Levin!
  5. Pics Please...you know the score...
  6. The DI is mixed on the XB driver. Not that I'd get one at Β£600 when you can do that and a lot more with an HX Stomp. Or just get a Dug pedal which is much cheaper.
  7. Hello from just across the water, in South Wales. Actually my Gran was from Cornwall. Her surname was Carbis - so no two guesses as to which bit of Cornwall she hailed from. Welcome to BassChat. Re your amp requirements - there's plenty of sound advice available on here. Of course, we'd all recommend many different brands / combinations of kit etc. But the great thing about BC is that the marketplace is always plentiful with "nice, tempting things" πŸ˜€ Keep your eyes open for gear not too far away, and ask to try it out. BC members are usually more than happy to oblige. Good luck in your search. EDIT: My own advice would be to opt for something with more oomph than you might first think you need - ie. A bit of headroom, as you may need it for a particular venue. Also, go as lightweight as you can. High quality lightweight gear can cost more - but can be a godsend if you end up doing several late nights in a row.
  8. I'm hooked. Thanks for this. One question. How do I get it to FoH with DI rather than mics on cabs? Wouldn't I need 2 DI outs? I'm going to sketch out some signal paths this weekend. I've been very close to the stage at Cheap Trick a few times and that dirty high end sound is like a chainsaw ripping through your head, the bottom is thumping solid.
  9. Hello @brule_lentement / Kev. Welcome to BassChat and the world of playing bass. Hello from a fair way off, in South Wales. Don't worry about starting late. Although I took up the bass a long time ago- I had almost 2 and a half decades of not playing. So I was effectively a beginner twice. The thing is, I have enjoyed my 2nd stint on bass even more. Just go for it, and enjoy the bass. Oh, and my first real influence on bass was JJ Burnel - just loved that sound on Rattus - awesome stuff πŸ˜€
  10. I removed the neck pick up completely tonight and there's no springs but the 2 strips of foam have a 7-8mm hole in the middle of them suggesting there should be springs fitted. I had some foam i bought for below some bass pedals i had mounted at one time and put an additional strip on the existing ones. Its allowed me to get the pick up to 5mm below the strings and it has made a huge difference on the sound and made the tone more balanced and fuller. The bridge pick up was already at 5mm but its now a bit quieter than the neck pup. I want to use this bass at tomorrows gig and will possibly revisit the bridge pick up next week and raise it a couple of mm to see the effect. The existing screws were just long enough. I think if i take this any further i'll need to go down the strip of wood idea and screw the pick ups onto the strip of wood. I can't find longer screws that will fit thru the pick up holes. I've had this bass for several years and it was always an ok bass but never great to play. I bought some nut files and dropped the string height at first fret from 30 to 25thou as a starting point as i've never tackled a nut adjustment like this before. It worked really well and it plays far better now than ever before. Now that pick up height is up a bit it has a more rounded, even and deeper tone. Its an Overwater Contemporary J4 bass that was put together by Chris's team at Overwater from spare parts they had when taking the idea to Tanglewood. It has no serial number or anything like that as i think they only did about 3 of them so in a way its quite rare πŸ˜‚ I had just bought my Overwater Custom fretless 6er and i was offered one of these basses. 11. No, sadly tax free was only available if purchased in person instore. First impressions are that the Legacy is definitely in the same ballpark as the Haz/LHZ preamps.... very happy so far! Bass is wonderfully well made and finished. Neck is very playable.... not as thick, depth-wise as most Euros... and slightly flatter around the nut end of the neck.
  12. Today
  13. Well I think I've peaked today..... I saw another of the old GR410+ cabs come up for sale, didn't think I'd see one again.... So it's now mine! The one I took a punt on a few years ago is by far the best sounding and most powerful cab I've ever used, and I've had some GREAT cabs in my time! I present the 1400w 8x10" GR Bass stack of doom! 😈 Overkill? Yes. Fun? Absolutely! πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘Œ
  14. Beautiful they are indeed but these are not Tony Levin's! 😎
  15. This was announced today too:
  16. Trades - X Touch Universal, maybe Alto TS215. Great bass in good condition, comes with hard case. Short scale. Not a heavy bass. Plays well. Not really any damage to speak of. There’s a little bit at the top of the headstock (photographed) but looks much worse than it actually is. I’ve removed the strap lock pins and replaced them with the originals that were odd when I got it. The case is old but fully function and all the clasps work. Can post at buyers expense or can be collected from BB22SH Any questions please ask.

  17. +1. The original SVT had drivers with 1mm xmax. That's why it took sixteen of them to handle the SVT head. You can find ads from 1969 showing the SVT head with two SVT 810 cabs. As driver technology improved the need for that many drivers lessened. Today you can find tens that are the equal of eight of the original SVT drivers.
  18. You'll probably have to start afresh with your amp EQ settings etc, I'm confident you'll get it to work though! My TT5 passive sounds massive when I dial it in πŸ‘Œ
  19. Arrested for Driving While Blind - ZZ Top ^ George got a custodial for being a right old 'Charlie' and 'Parking' his Range outside Snappy Snaps.
  20. I like the foam with a spring in the middle... gives a firmer ride... I just found this on AliExpress: οΏ‘7.41 | Dopro 2pcs Bass Pickup Height Foam Pickup Height Adjustment Pads with Springs for Jazz J Bass/Jazzmaster Pickups https://a.aliexpress.com/_EH6B8gO Same price for double (4) rather than ebay for 2... worth the wait? But if a real big gap, double foam can be wobbly, so maybe a small block of wood, then single foam.

  22. As a bass guitar driver, it’s very limited. Some of this can be overcome by using multiples of this driver (410 and 810 for example)
  23. Glad to hear it! Everyone in a band needs to pull their weight. Sounds like you had a great time
