  2. While we are at it, here is an easy way to know which hand is which: On the right hand, the thumb is on the left.
  3. I meant envelope out, but I have no idea about what I'm saying!
  4. Looks like you never played an aluminium neck Kramer in plain sun or at an outside gig during a frozen winter ... as Kramer or Travis Bean invented the Auto-Detune.

  6. I'd not been playing very long when I bought an acoustic bass because I thought I ought to. I was playing alongside a couple of acoustic guitarist / singers so it'd be the right tool for the job, and imagine the convenience of none of us needing to plug in to rehearse. Yeah. Just imagine it. There have been plenty of bits mentioned in this thread that I've bought 'to see what the fuss was about' and found that I genuinely liked, though... Precision basses, Markbass LM heads, Barefaced cabs, Thumpinator HPFs, SansAmp preamps, digital wirelesses (starting with the L6 G30) - they all arrived via that route and haven't left yet. Of course, I did also buy a TE Elf 🙄
  7. Clearing out some stuff, and I don’t use this so time to move it on. Excellent 9/10 condition, works fine and has a new Duracell fitted recently. Has two little rubber feet missing, but will include a new set of 4 with the pedal in case you don’t want to Velcro it to a pedalboard. These currently sell new on t’internet for between £75 and £85. Cash on collection from East Yorkshire, or can send - UK postage now included. More info here - The ultimate distortion for bass! This XO-series sized box features a bass boost switch and was specifically designed to handle bass frequencies. It also features a "dry" output. The Electro-Harmonix Bass Big Muff Pi Distortion Pedal lets bass players get that great distortion that the Big Muff is known for with no loss of low end. The bass big muff features controls for volume, tone, sustain, dual outputs (effect & dry for recording), and a mini switch for bass boost. 8. Two stand out for me, although I only regret selling one of the basses I have moved on (ACG 5 er which I should have persevered with). Peavey T40. Black with maple board. Probably my favourite looking bass of all time and the neck felt great but tone wise I couldn't find anything anywhere in its multiple knobs that I liked. And it didn't sit nicely with the slab body. Moved it on for more than I paid for it and it mostly covered a Vigier Passion with carbon neck which is IMO the second best looking bass but is also amazing to play and has a bunch of great sounds. Squier jaguar SS. Looks cool, lovely playing neck but just too toy like for my big hands and the generic PJ was just too weedy. Gave it to a good friend with small hands who loves it and it has started to ween him off his guitar foolishness so definitely no regrets.
  9. what time of day was it? i used to experience this strange hissing sound during the summer every night at around the same time - after observing the pattern it turned out it was always exactly around 3am - so after several nights listening from the bedroom window i decided to go out the front door into the garden to see if i could hear it any better or identify where it was emanating from turned out to be the local pitch and putt golf course (council owned and run) using an automatic watering system on their greens that was set to a time in the middle of the night when everybody would be fast asleep and hence nobody would realise what they were up to during a rather long hot summer with its accompanying hosepipe ban 🙄

  11. The very first gig I went to was at the music Machine ( now koko?) The lineup was Quartz (headlining ) , Girl ( second on the bill) ,and Praying mantis.! Girl was awfully loud and not enjoyable at all ! The 2 loudest indoor gigs I’ve been to , Iron Maiden metal for muthas at the Lyceum ,and Manowar at Hammy O on the Blow Your speaker’s tour ! You had a feeling that Manowar did use All of the Marshall Stack ! A great gig though and we were near the back of the venue. Regarding the Maiden gig , we managed to stay until halfway through the song of the second encore ! ( How many encores were there ?) Many of us couldn’t take any more . This wasn’t helped by Mr Dianno asking the guy at the mixing desk to turn it up ! @police squad have you had band discussion yet?
  12. Lovely! Am I right in thinking that the resin in the neck has some blue tint? I’ve only seen that a few times, both times in a red tint. Very rare and stunning colour. The horns on these earlier passion basses were wider than later on. It’s a great shape that hangs well from a strap. The silver lines on the body - they used to be slices of ‘delta metal’ when Vigier used them under the fingerboard before the carbon necks. I’m not sure but that could be the same here unless they’re painted on.

  14. As per the title, we're looking for a quality bass player who's into the genre, who can commit to regular rehearsals with a view to playing some cool gigs down the line. We are a drummer (me) and two guitarists (one of whom performs lead vocals), rehearsing in Newbury and Andover. Creative mindset, contribution to songwriting and BVs encouraged! Demos can be found here: https://barrowriffs.bandcamp.com/album/barrow-3 The idea would be to learn a couple of the demo tracks, then come along for a jam to see how we vibe. I'd love to do it myself, but alas, I have felt the call of drums for this one. Great opportunity for a fellow forum member/gear afficionado to dust off those vintage amps, guitars and boutique fx pedals!
  15. I’ve got a dilemma now though. Recently picked up a fretless to match the fretted but it’s faded to nearly yellow. It’s going to be impossible to match a strap to it, and because I use a Backbeat it’ll be easier to have one strap for both. Gone for my old 90’s ‘Slapstrap’ which is super comfy and a bit of a classic

  20. I actually prefer a direct sale, but it always depends. Maybe you can send me your ideas via pm.
  21. Exactly! Off from this thread, I recommend you the film Tous les matins du monde. P. S. Sir, sorry about the verb "hate", but somehow it fits this thread of exaggeration, and strong personal opinions.
  22. Me and my friend walked out of a Black Star Riders gig a few years ago , because we thought they were dreadful !( sorry 😬)
  23. Which component is it? I can take a look CPC is owned by us but they operate entirely independently and have their own stock including their own pricing. They might be selling it at a lower margin, or even cost to burn off stock (at farnell we're not allowed to do that but at CPC they are sometimes)
