  1. Past hour
  2. It's fine thankfully. They did state that the bass will come with a professional set up. If it was was up by a professional I'd be interested to know as to what the profession was! I'm glad it came with a tool kit...
  3. When I was watching Lockdown Licks with Guy Pratt back in 2020, I had this idea to put a truly outstanding bass together based on things that I love and things I really loved in a lot of Guy's basses. I decided that now was the time to get myself a Status neck, and I'm glad that I did, I don;t think anyone saw the end coming so soon for the production of Status necks. I've had 2 Warmoth basses in the past and they were exceptional in terms of quality and fit and finish so I decided to go with a chambered alder body Dinky jazz bass with a mahogany top with 70s pickup spacing and routed for a double battery box. After watching many Warmoth videos, I settled on Taos Turquoise but not gloss - the satin finish. The rest was easy - EMGs, BTS 2 band EQ, Fender Hi mass bridge and neck plate and the humungous Gotoh EB=P3 strap buttons with Fender rubber washers. Once the bass was put together I played it for a few years and loved it, except from about the middle of 2023 I had an unexpected issue - I had lost lot of weight, going from a mighty 19 stone down to 13 and a half and the bass no longer sat right. I tried other basses and they were all the same. Eventually, I got fed up one night and decided to resurrect my Harley Benton 75 thing with the heavy ash body - that was it, the extra weight made it balance properly. For some reason, after 30 years of playing, I couldn't play unless the headstock pointed upwards. Level was no good to me anymore, I needed the headstock to be higher than the body so I began designing Lockdown Bass #2. It had to be heavy so I decided to go with solid maple and specified somewhere between 6-7 pounds and omit the truss rod trench as the Status neck adjusts at the top and I didn't want to have a scratchplate. I tried many different finishes until my wife saw one of them and said - That's the One! I wanted to do something slightly different so have this time gone with EMG X series pickups and the BQC 3 band EQ but used the same bridge and neck plate. Anyone with a weak back or a fear of heavy basses might want to look away now as I weighed it once completed. The body they sent was 7.4 lbs and the whole bass, considering it has Hipshot Ultralites fitted weighs 13lbs! That's nearly a stone. Luckily I am in great shape and train three times a week so the combination of that and a really good neoprene strap should see me through many a wedding gig. Anyway, here it is in it's original form followed by the new and improved (and heavier) version in Holoflake:
  4. £350 collected to any awesome basschatters out there.
  5. I own the exact same bass also fitted with Ultra Jazz pickups! It's an an absolute ripper and amazing all-round quality for the money. Lovely colour too. You can't go wrong with one of these!! 👍
  6. Imgur have gone and blocked the whole UK so my photos are broken. I'll try to get them hosted elsewhere but you can PM me in the meantime.
  7. Office conference and we had Supershakers. Apologies if it was you and you had to suffer a bunch of pished tax accountants 🤣🍾🥂🎉
  8. Right Here, Right Now - Fatboy Slim
  9. When You Are Old And Gray - Tom Lehrer
  10. A beautiful performance from the 2022 ECM album from trumpeter Avishai Cohen (a stalwart of the SF Jazz Collective), Naked Truth', the tune is one of 9 pieces that make up the Naked Truth long form composition. This is Part 3 of the suite which is mainly in 7:4. An interesting reading exercise. Not a massively quick tempo but the lines is constantly shifting so concentration is required. A lovely part, though, played on double bass by Israeli bass player, Barak Mori. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/naked-truth-part-3-avishai-cohen-trumpet/
  11. Those clever product managers, eh? Making them in different colours for different tastes. Cunning.
  12. Practically any light source will charge the dots. UV is the most efficient, but not necessary. If you really want, a UV torch from Amazon cannot be overly expensive, but not a must. I believe Luminlay contains Super-Luminova from Japan. It's a Strontium based inactive luminous material. Lifetime is decades. (Radio) Active materials (the most common is Tritium) are functional but their lifetime is limited. Half life of Tritium is 12.5 years.
  13. Don't think of the dB as a solo instrument really. Not even keen on bass solos in jazz tbh. I did once see Eberhardt Weber live; it was brill. But does very clever use of a looper, chorus and reverb on an eub count as solo double bass? Cello on the other hand, well ....Bach 6 suites, Britten, Kodaly... ..off to widen my horizons, and thanks for the tips👍 Ps: I got a bollocking at school for messing with the music depts new synth... Despite being a kid who'd been bought an instrument and given lessons to play it ( dad was a cellist). Its just that some school teachers were ( are?) in it to be fontrol freaky with smaller people.
  14. Like the man said, it's this Sunday the 12th. It would be great to see you again if you can make it 🙂
  15. Yes
  16. Sometimes I just use a low-gain overdrive into my bass. Si
  17. I couldn't see one on Amazon but eBay has them https://ebay.us/m/DHroEN Catchy name too
  18. 80s Killing joke
  19. Today
  20. Picked this up on here a couple of years ago with an idea in mind, but never ended up using it. It’s been sat in drawer all that time. Condition is fair. It has a few scratches and the box is very tatty, but it’s fully functional. I paid £50 and am hoping to get my money back. Will include postage for that price.
  21. That looks quite decent, do they make a 5 string version?
  22. Only one low gain OD!? Lightweights. Anything less than three stacked drive pedals and it’s not really bass
  23. Four Out Of Five - Arctic Monkeys
  24. Does anyone even use an amp these days?
  25. So I recently won a beautiful washburn taurus t24 with a slight blemish on the headstock as you can see. My plan is to put in a set of my favourite emg j set pickups with the tko switch as is tradition. My question is in the year of our (over)lord(of music( 2025 - what is the go-to budget bridge? I'm currently leaning towards this type as I had a pleasant experience with the guitar version a few years ago on a headless guitar I absolutely regret selling! https://www.amazon.co.uk/SMZhomeone-Travel-Bridge-Professional-Headless/dp/B0D92GXQX8/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=2HTWCP1ETGICZ&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.f5jwXg9cdybqVolytNQZSZgftMvACVAOF7pz1CWE5Z2mrls-aaLp72HK9s6fKUGGzQvZDIeWiiE87PrAlR5db6GmE1fWrsK-KPJG6LEYPGeBNOE733OGIC1QB0wI7PAc-qyonJk0fy4O7EL6mzfOi2w_22GRKkF4hpmdUR5LikJKzyqm6ZEcKtQmQq4gZ-QnnbhWT5PCzCimUlgQNvmMqw.VQaeQPr524V86iACZYuv_aPYKxUYt7msCniYIbAqvQY&dib_tag=se&keywords=headless+bass+bridge&qid=1760036757&sprefix=headless+bass+bri%2Caps%2C105&sr=8-3 But I am interested to hear what else is out there
  26. Indeed and the fretless is that very one. Sold a bit after by the buyer who is in Scotland.
