Thanks guys, some good advice. My mic, a Sontronics Solo, has a high output, the other two, one SM58 and one XM8500 are lower. However once the gain is set I can use the channel meters to ride the virtual faders to achieve what I want. I rather think I sing louder than our lead vocalist so I need to be aware of that, and put guitarist will not get close to the mic 😔 We had a disaster last gig (see how was your PA) and I have wrestled control from the lead singer, with the backing of the rest of the band. I will let you know how it goes on Sunday/Monday.

I love it! Glad it turned out to be everything you hoped for, it looks fantastic.

Hi all, Just took delivery of above, 69Ib of pure heaven on castors. Considering the age (17 years old) not bad condition. Trying to gather as much info on known faults, just in case! Pete

The future of amps & cabs - stage props only?
Wolverinebass replied to SimonK's topic in Amps and Cabs
That's all quite true of course. It just seems to be the case that the experiences I've had live are sadly not of the conspiracy theory ilk. In fact, one time a couple of years ago I was filling in on bass for a mate's band. The bloke actually said the exact words "pre eq DI only." He then refused to take the xlr of my sansamp. Then he soundchecked the whole band except me as I refused to give him a dry signal and didn't put it through the PA. My mates complained quite vociferously at that and it really wasn't great. The promoter then came out with the nugget of wisdom that "he knows what he's doing." Yeah, right. In an ideal world things would work as you suggest. Alas, it just hasn't been my experience. -
Yes, not sure why they went for a side jack.
-
I’m quite often alternating between lead and backing vocals on the same gig. If I’m singing lead I go in close on the mic; for BVs I back off to around 15cm (6in).

I love the sound of my Joyo BadAss, but it's only 50 watts. In all honesty, it sounds better than my Orange Terror. It doesn't seem ridiculous to think about the potential for re-casing it, substituting a class-D module for the integral Class D output amplifier. Or even building my own valve front end. The £10.999 500W modules on Amazon are probably not a good idea for long life. I see that Profusion sell a 700W ICEpower module with power supply for £223. Price doesn't seem to be strongly correlated with power, so presumably there are other differences (such as robustness, e.g. SOAR protection, thermal performance, efficiency). This 500W module looks like it could be suitable: https://gb.profusion.uk/uk/icepower500asp Does anyone know which of the ICEpower modules are widely used in class D bass amps? Or indeed any thoughts on the practicality of this approach? (I grew up with a father who repaired TVs as part of his business and I have been building my own amps etc. on and off for 50 years, so I'm unlikely to kill anyone).

I'm bound to have recounted this before. In the early 90's Spinal Tap were promoting their album Break Like The Wind. As part of the promotion, they came into the studio where I was recording at the time. From the moment of their arrival to their departure, 3 hours later, they remained in character and were simply hilarious.

Must admit i do love the shape of them. Think if money wasn't an issue i would have one in my collection along with a MM Stingray, G&L L2000, WAL, Alembic, 1960 P bass and a Jazz, Overwater Progress 4, Gibson Grabber/Ripper, Kramer DMZ, Status (original graphite version), Vigier and so many others. 🤣 Dave

Aw come on, Basschat isn’t that bad 😎🤣 -
While there is a gap in the price range for something around £500, power wise the TE1200 is only about 7dB more powerful than the Elf, something in between doesn't make much sense as the differences up and down would be so small. Indeed, the difference between Elf into 4R and TE-1200 into 8R is only 6dB. So, in practice, 500W and 1000W amps are both adequate for pretty much any situation meaning a 500W version, while probably having a market, isn't really 'needed'.
-
-3 to -6dB is a reasonable target, but the only way to know if you're hitting that target is if your console has individual channel level meters.

I hope they use the information to improve their training.

glassmoon started following TCE Spectracomp needed for music shcool in South Africa (donation)

Hi all, I'm on the cadge again for gear for my nephew's music school contacts in South Africa. For those not familiar, they teach (for free) some of the impoverished areas that desperately need gear of all kinds. In the past, you lot have so generously donated a few tuners (which I am told are STILL working) and a drive pedal. My nephew says they managed to get a few compressors from a couple of local music stores and such, but are looking for a compressor. We chatted and he suggested the TCE Spectracomp - small form factor and ease of use (baring in mind that a lot of the gear being used is shared among LOTS of players as they donate onwards to two "sister" type schools). They had one, but it was crushed apparently (I think a car rolled over a bag of gear)... So I thought I'd take a chance and ask... you never know. I don't like asking here, it's the whole colonial thing that worries me, but as an ex Saffa, and being very close to my nephew... well. I've sent one of mine off already BTW, along with gosh knows how much gear... but as I am selling gear (redundancy is a b*tch) I am all but tapped out. My thanks in advance. Julian aka Glassmoon

Here's an idea - post your music somewhere that's not a known hotbed of extremist hate, bigotry, intolerance & lies - then maybe a few more people might be interested enough to have a listen, and not draw prejudicial conclusions about the content & the poster. I'm not clicking a Rumble link. -
I think there's a misunderstanding here. I've been asked for a 'pre' signal, yes, but that comes after my pedal board and everything else. If I'm going through the PA, the amp onstage is really just a monitor. It makes sense to give the sound engineer a signal before the amp's controls, so that I can tweak to my heart's content: I may turn up/down slightly, I probably turn up mids and I probably turn down bass way below what I want FOH to get. But they still get my pedalboard sound. The 'bass' labelled DI box is purely to be able to know which input appears where on the mixer. Any other conspiracy theories? 😉

Behringer X32 Compact mixer -> footswitch for FX on/off and tap-tempo?
mcnach replied to mcnach's topic in General Discussion
No, there isn't one on the Compact X32, that's why I thought MIDI would probably have to be to communicate with the X32. I guess the process is now: 1) establish that the FX on/off and tap tempo can be controlled via midi 2) find a compatible controller that gives me at least a couple of footswitches to be assigned to the parameters above 3) figure out the midi map assignments? -

Actually, I found the names of the board members online... and from there it was not difficult to give a good educated guess as to their individual corporate email addresses. Now they will not be able to say they were genuinely unaware of the fire risk. I've written to each of them, and nothing bounced.

Yup, you're unique. Reminds me of the Kinks playing "I'm not like everybody else", with the thousands in the crowd singing back the choruses...
