This sought after set have just been pulled from my Trace Elliot V4 although they started life as a sextet in a friend's SVT II a number of years back. The remaining four are old but still working fine and have happily done the last six months in the V4 with no bias drifting, internal lightning or blown fuses but I fancied a change so have installed some brand new Linlai KT88s. You can just about make out the SED logo and other prints in the first pic. There's a 5th valve somewhere that if I find it at the time of sale, I'll also include. SED Winged C 6550C £100 posted.

That's good of you to chip in to help promoting the projects you're in being a bassist unless you're fronting the band yourself. I'm normally seen and not heard if I'm a sideman! 😂 -

Oh no!😟 -
The fact that I am selling one is immaterial (no, really). If wanted to get super gnarly, I would be plugging in to one of these.

I'm going to be bringing a Trace TE1200 head and an LFSys Monaco, Silverstone II and Goodwood. This is one of the few opportunities you'll have to find out what LFSys cabs are all about without actually ordering one, as they're only available direct and not through retailers. Head-to-head comparisons cordially welcomed. -
Things I used to need, that I no longer need. I am certain you know how it is. 1. Broughton Synth Voice Deluxe - £150 Blah blah blah. This is what it does. 2. Ken Smith PAPA floor pedal Preamp + Headphone amp - £300 A Smith preamp in a box. So all your basses can pretend to be Smiths. I am aware that there is more to it than that. This is what our Ken said "Since we came out with the new 18v circuit, many people have asked to buy these to either upgrade their current Smith bass or put it in another bass. Often, it will not fit without major modifications or fit at all. So, after a few years we completed the Smith P.A.P.A. Preamp/Practice Amp for external use. This is the exact circuit as in the current Smith Basses. No modification to your bass needed plus, you have the added practice amp feature as well." 3. TC Spark - £33 It is a TC Spark. 4. SFX Micro Fuzz - £40 It does fuzz things and is tiny There is a tuner in there. I decided to keep it for now. Unless you REALLY REALLY want it.

As i live in London, I prefer to walk in to venues, the old school way if I'm fronting a band. Otherwise, being a sideman I don't need to get involved in that department. -
Bought a Jazz bass from Chris. He kept me updated, it was well packaged and shipped promptly. Thoroughly recommended 👍

Alive by Pearl Jam. Not a big challenge, but one of my favourite songs so really looking forward to performing it. Rehearsal monday.

I have to admit there are a few instruments in my own collection (guitars and basses) that I really like and don't want to sell but I don't play them either . It's not a great time to sell anyway so they're basically wall decorations or filling up a hardshell case in the spare room wardrobe. I do get to 'rediscover' them after a time though.

For Sale: Tobias Toby Pro, mid 2000s 3-band active, through neck bass £395. We donated a few instruments to a Secondary School I teach at this week and this Toby Pro Bass seemed way too good to become a 'School Beater Bass', so it's up for sale/trade with a view to replacing it with a couple of cheap Squiers (or instruments of similar value) that we can donate to the school. Formerly housed with the 'Moo Collection" (including the infamous Moo-Wood Status KingBasses), the Bass sounds really good for a relatively budget instrument. I believe these were made in the Korean Cort factory. Some are badged as 'Made in Korea' and others just have the U serial numbers. Condition is good, apart from a couple of small scuffs in the lacquer on the back, but there are no chips or gouges. The bass is fully operational, sounds great and has been set up with a medium-low action on Ernie Ball 45-100 Slinky's. There is a generic GigBag included with the sale. Remember that this instrument is on sale to generate funds or cheaper instruments to donate to a school, so I'm not going to drop the price. Will happily post this one, or potential buyers can collect from Derbyshire (10 mins off M1 J25.)

Yes, I’m aware of all that, thanks. I forgot to mention I also play a 7-string Viola da gamba, but only well enough for the simpler Bach movements. It is thought that lute players still played circa French baroque pitch for solo work, but for ensemble work that could vary up and down depending where you were based. As a lute player, I often use all-gut strings at 392, sometimes even slightly lower if the instrument seems to want it. Baroque pitch is a musical feast. Yes, the 6th suite is for 5 strings, and the 5th suite has the first string down a tone. I’m not looking to arrange other music for the bass, just the cello suites, which I’ve been exploring on and off for 40 years or so. It’s always refreshing to explore them on different tunings and instruments. As I’m focused on the 4-string bass these days I thought I’d put some thought into how best to play them, and I quickly came to the conclusion that EADG would cause many problems. Once you’ve played them in 5ths tuning, and seen how perfectly they fit, it’s worth pondering at least how to emulate that on the bass. Hmm…maybe a piccolo bass 😎

greghagger started following ‘The Night’ Bass Cover - Frankie Valli
-
I reckon that my favourite Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons bass line has to be the one from 'The Night'. The bassist, Joe Long, is really is at his finest in this song. I spent quite a few years playing in the original London production of 'Jersey Boys' a while back, but bizarrely this song wasn't in the show. Although we discussed it in the band, I don't remember us ever finding out why! Maybe it was something to do with the writer’s credits. The Night was recorded during the Four Seasons 'Motown phase' in the early 70's, and you can clearly hear Jamerson's influence in Joe Long's bass line. I made a YouTube lesson on this bass line a few years ago, but I've now made a play-through video with the original track. This was quite a challenge, particularly in the pre-choruses, because of the fast tempo. I could have done with a few days to practice it, but I managed to get something half-decent down for this week's YouTube video. You’ll find a link to my full transcription in the video description. I hope you find the transcription useful and enjoy my play-through.

@Baloney Balderdash It's a sonic monster. Fantastic. Again, all original style. I'm a fan.

I've gone to the Dark(glass) side so this is now going spare. It's served me well over many gigs and recordings for four years without a hitch. Comes complete with soft carry case, midi cable, midi footswitch and mains cable. More amp sims and effects than you can shake a stick at. Will post at cost but I would prefer a meet up.
