  1. Past hour
  2. Boomerang — Geno Washington & The Ram Jam Band
  3. I've had a smattering of Yamaha basses, and they've without exception been superb instruments. The neck on my RBX765A was so good, I got Jon Shuker to copy the neck profile for the custom he built for me. I don't have a Yam at the moment, but I would sell a kidney for a TRB5P.
  4. Well I guess I’m about half way. Prolly have space in the car if it’s any help…
  5. I've Thrown It All Away - Weezer
  6. Luvverly. I hadn‘t seen an AGB with the aged look. I thought they only offered that finish on the AFB. Do you feel that the fixed bridge affects the sound much? They are less faff than the moving ones, but is that at the cost of the woody sound?
  7. Hi all, I’ve been trying to get my hands on a Sunn 200s or Solardo. None available to buy in the UK and of course amps are awkward to shop. What would be the closest alternative to one of these amps. (or if someone has one that they might be thinking of selling shoot me a dm)
  8. Surely there are few on here who needs convincing about ACGs but ..... I recently had almost all my basses in storage for about 3 months due to a big intercontinental move and when I got them back it was a joy to be reunited with them all but it was my ACG (not the shortie, that is still in the box until I get the hangers up - delayed gratiication 😁) that really blew me away with the playability and the feel through the instrument. You don't need all the active bells ansd whistles to have a marvellous instrument and the joy of the ACG is in the DNA, especially the neck shaping. Given how much other things that were mass produced but have a 'name' sell for, 900 quid is a steal.
  9. You can try ozone. The units are pretty cheap especially 2nd hand. Find a closet that is not in your apartment, and ozonize the case for few hours. After vacuuming, of course. If you can get a cardboard or plastic box that is slightly bigger than the case, the treatment is more efficient. Repeat once or twice.
  10. I have noticed quite a few bands of late picking up the BB line so the exposure is out there. I'm sure the Stereophonics bass player started using them and Tony Kanal of No Doubt has been using them for years! I know Michael Anthony used them for a long time but seems to have jumped ship to Schecter at some point.
  11. I think what we can't be clear about with this bass, is whether this is a problem that's developed over the years, or whether it's always been like this. This is a Korean-made bass from the late 70s, a time when factories like Samick (who made this) & Cort were upping their games but still not achieving the QC of the more established manufacturers. I've had a few Korean-made through-neck basses from this era which had unadjustably high actions simply because they came out of the factory that way, rather than deterioration. Here's a Samick-made Satellite I had, which some previous owner's corrected by routing the bridge about 5mm into the body: I think before suggesting any remedial action with the SD Curlee, I'd need to know whether we're correcting an age-related problem, or a manufacturing flaw. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the former.
  12. Cheers Mick, More akin to a lifelong 'criminal record' or 'wall of shame' tbh, but thank you... 😁
  13. Just like my very recent transaction with Mick too. As evidenced by the very quick and safe arrival of the Dennis Dunaway book today that I purchased just a few days ago. Thanks Mick - I'm looking forward to a good read! 👍😊
  14. Ah yes - that does suggest that the truss-rod cutout is another area of weakness. Perhaps the earlier comment regarding graphite/fibre inserts along the length of the "plank" could work. Yes, I'd agree that shims at the end could make it worse. Indeed I was wondering if the counter-intuitive option of putting a shim midway(!) might work.
  15. I've just been through this process with an old case that smelt mouldy/ musty. Febreeze was a misstep in my case (excuse the pun), although anecdotally others have had success. I felt it made it worse (like spraying deodoriser to disguise bad toilet smells), but it's quite likely I executed it poorly. The only thing that worked was a combination of judicious vacuuming of the insides and exposure to direct sunlight/ airing in my garage. I realise this doesn't help you much, but I didn't think the smell would ever go and it's completely tolerable now after a concerted effort.
  16. Thanks, Was just asking as I'm trying to coordinate delivery of a Mesa Boogie Walkabout Combo to Chris, aka @Beedster but he's unable to attend on Sunday. So he and I were just wondering whether anyone more local to him than me (I live in Bedfordshire) might be able to help? A sort of Basschat 'relay service' as it were... 😁
  17. I don’t have one yet, however youngest doesn’t want to go to Alton towers with mum and sis so I’m out, sadly I will try for @Richard Rs jolly next year
  18. Streaming is just a real chance to discover some new artists on a larger basis than only local gigs around. Especially in comtemporary jazz music which is not the more played music around. I've found a mid-road between past and present: buying monthly some jazz dedicated newspaper (yeah, we still have two different ones surviving) in which i find a lot of albums reviews. And then, go to discover Artists that reviews inspired me on Deezer. And when i find something i really like, buy the CD. (no vinyl digger here); and go to see them live when i've the chance it's not to far. And then buy merch; and following them after, etc ..
  19. It’s not necessarily an age thing. Some middle aged, middle class professionals will go regularly to gigs at random. I would not rely on them randomly stumbling across my band though if I was trying to make a living from music.
  20. Leave it closed with a fair few of those silca gel sachets inside, as well airing it and spraying it ect.
  21. Im late 40's and still go to plenty of gigs. Even get involved in the odd most pit. At a lot of the gigs I go to, im far from the oldest. Gigs aren't just for young whippersnappers
  22. Just saw this. it's an odd one. While I think the form factor is good, I cant imagine its any use in a band setting. I suppose it could replace the likes of the VoxPlug etc. https://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/tonexplug/
  23. The internet is not going away! Enjoy using it or don't. Spotify has been a massive blessing to music listeners all over the world. It would be great if it paid bands better, for sure! It seems to me that streaming is to music, what libraries are to books. Don't think anyone is arguing that libraries are evil, and everyone should buy all their own books? It's certainly not either/or: I love listening to music on YT and Spotify. I also love regularly gigging and being by paid decently by venues who know the worth of live music as part of what they offer their customers.
  24. These days, the only originals bands playing mid-week are well-known ones with a couple of albums out who are on tour and have some sort of financial support from a record label or management company. Here in Nottingham gigs by new bands are on average £10 on the door (and at some venues free).
  25. Or weekends. Most of the time I have commitments and strangely enough getting in at gone midnight doesn’t gel well with getting in to work and doing a decent job. Your rant is not for me. If you don’t want to prostitute your self on the socials or want people to use streaming platforms that is up to you but as you said “no effer want to get off their fat one” So I guess it’s everyone else who is at fault for not knowing about you? I will continue going to see relatively unknown artists who I discovered in the digital space. I hope that I contribute in some small way to them making a living. As I have already said most of these bands have an audience no larger than The Fall in their early days and from what I gather previous members hardly made a fortune from record sales even in the good old days.
