@Basvarken: Can't say I could play those monsters, but they do look kool!

Just my two cents... That Jack Daniels, as well as the oak necked instruments are the best looking, because the graphics continue through all parts, including neck. I love that yellow black scheme, but how about tinting the neck, too? 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 12th fret, should they be black or yellow?

I see some of rod Stewart as miss RB was watching it, even though he was out of tune I did find it entertaining and good for him for having a go at his age, also I think his bass player changed basses 3 times, one looked like an early 70s P

Any Real/Fake book is like that. You choose when to play double tempo, or whatever during playing, or before the session. That's it. I know some songs by heart, but a Fake book library is super helpful. Now, when the books are in PDF format, I can carry thousands of songs with me in just one tablet. Very different that 30-40 years ago, when everything was on paper. My bass bags were filled with paper. And every time some paper was missing. Thanks to you, @Bilbo as well as @ChrisDev and @tomread! Your impeccable work has saved me numerous times. I can also say that MuseScore pages have usually something usable, although the bass is not the most popular instrument there - but for a head start, or chart...

If the music only works as musicianship and isn't something a non-musician can appreciate then is it good music, or just good technique? The best stuff works on both levels, with the musicianship adding a dimension but not getting in the way.

Welcome to the club! Don't call yourself shallow, colour is an important part of a bass! I would not touch a sunburst with a stick 🤪 Regarding bright flats, here's an infodump for you: -

I had a Salmon / orange one for a while. Lovely instrument, but I've largely fallen out of love with active instruments, meaning that it rarely got played. Off it went to a new home

Dunlop flats are brighter than typical flats (think Labellas). They're more like a worn in set of rounds. You could also look out ground/half-wound or "super polished" strings. Essentially round wounds that have been made closer to flats in some way. As far as I know only LaBella do super polished short scales, and they're specifically for top loading mustang basses, but if you can cope with a bit less silk at the headstock... PS all of these options are either a bit pricey or very pricey! -

If you got on well with the Boss upgrade to the Gt100core it really is ridiculously good, can be for a steal secondhand. You can set it up as if it's just individual pedals you turn on and off with the three foot switches, or program it to do a whole set list with patches. The hardware is newer than the stomp which will likely see a replacement model come out in a few years time. It's not better than the stomp it's just different and easily as good. The only reason I would say not to get it is if you're after recreations of lots of different amps or pedals. If that's your thing go neural or line 6. If you like Boss effects however (they were THE standard effects pedal for decades for a reason) go boss.

I have started playing short scales recently - starting with a little Gretsch expanding since then into a U5, JMJ Mustang and an Acinonyx. Shallow I know but I Googled short scale red bass because for showbiz reasons I needed a red bass to match some stage outfits! What came top of the list was a refurbished Vox Starstream Artist 2S on the Vox website. Including gig bag it was £350. Given they were well north of a grand when they came out - and some people had paid that - I went for it. I took it to a gig and our sound engineer raved about it compared with my other basses. Ironically I don't enjoy playing it as much as the Mustang and the Acinonyx basically because they have flats on them which feel better to me - so my next quest is to find flats that sound brighter than a normal flat. It's a weird looking thing and not everybody's cup of tea but it's nicely balanced and very light and with the right strings could be my go to bass - something I never would have predicted when I Googled red short scale. -
As new still sealed in packs, 3 sets available £11.50 per set including postage. I have been trying various brands of strings on a number of basses, whilst these are very nice I'm going to Dunlop's for my fretted Warwick. To my ears the Eden's seem similar to Rotosounds, maybe not quite as 'zingy' initially.

Aguilar Tone Hammer 500 These are great amps well known for their tonal versatility and power to weight ratio. It is in excellent working condition with a few minor scratches and blemishes to the casing. Pickup preferred so you can try it through my cab but I’m happy to post at buyer’s expense in the UK only. It comes with mains lead and a gig-bag the rubber feet are missing from the amp and I suspect they were taken off so it would fit neatly in the bag. I’d consider trades on a Bergantino 12 cab.
