Terry M. started following Do you have a signature sound?
-
Signature sound I would have to say no as none of my 4 basses sound the same. With regards to this specific question it has to be my Broadneck Warwick Thumb 5 no matter which strings or amp it goes through. I had to "learn" it's ergonomic profile however but the sound is totally worth it to my ears.

Lozz196 started following Ashdown RM112T Opinions?

The only downside to these - the earlier ones, maybe the current ones are ok - is the tweeters weren’t particularly good, and could sometimes rattle with notes lower than low E. But it’s a cheap easy job to swap them out (I got Ashdown to do mine( and then you have a nice sounding light portable cab for not much money.

This came up as a served advertisement while I was shopping for new strings (don’t ask). It seems like you can pick up a brand new Fazley DB kit for £200. https://www.bax-shop.co.uk/double-bass/fazley-b-sb-900-4-4-double-bass-with-gig-bag-bow-and-rosin?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=ADC_Bax_UK_NBD_Shopping_Own-Brand_bucket2&utm_id=23191023039&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=23191023039&gclid=Cj0KCQiApL7KBhC7ARIsAD2Xq3AioZBKqiKZNwZrsYRae76SKQskh5g9HxzM_AoZY15DVkeyQSFswmMaAnwVEALw_wcB

Ditto with Mrs WH. She'll often hear another bassist and say something akin to 'He sounds/plays like you'... and I rarely get it straight away but she's often right. She's attended a few Bass Bashes and she can hear me and knows when it is me playing (and NOT because I play the same bass line every time) amid a cachophony of bass!

That's a shame! I'll probably still give it a go. It wouldn't be a problem on stage, but I only need the main volume knob at '1' for home practice and it's a little annoying. -

Not many bass related pressies for me, but I did get some dosh and have just spent it on..... Xvive a58 - this means instead of standing perfectly still a few meters away from my amp, I can stay still up to 30 meters away from my amp. Gator pro go ultimate gig bag - should keep things nice and comfy when out and about. Some plectrums - wanted to try a few different gauges/types. I'm probably most curious about the felt one I have on the way! -
My main band is a blues/soul trio which I assumed would be P bass with flatwounds all the way. Not so. I use a Yamaha BB604 active bass with roundwounds. It’s a very loud bass which pushes my amp to the edge of distortion when you really dig in, or ease off for a really textured, chiming sort of warm rasp which really fills out the space in the trio format when needed. Play softly near the neck with your fingers and it’s smooth, dig in with a pick by the bridge and it’s a full-throated roar. It’s a wicked sound. If I have any sort of signature tone, it is accidentally that one.

Those capacitors were the first thing we changed on the GP12 (picture from a few pages back) but it didn't stop the hum... -

As @Lozz196 said, if you like regular Guinness, then give it a go. It's really nice and I prefer it to the regular stuff tbh! -
That bass drive is an odd one. Its so hot. I use it as my dirt but with the gain at 8 and mixed quite low.

What if theyre vintage? Or made of tone-plastic, or fender-badged? Surely they would be truly magical from the moment of manufacture and defy all reasonable expectations from first use? ✨ -
warwickhunt started following The Tribute band circuit

I play in two tributes; one I do purely as I love the band (Cheap Trick) and the 2nd I joined as I liked the band (INXS) and it was an ideal opportunity to play better/bigger gigs (but not necessarily for more money). A couple of observations. Be sure you like the material, nothing worse than playing a couple of hours of stuff you don't like. Network with anyone you know in a tribute band, you'll likely get any gig/band through contacts. Be prepared (if you aren't already) to use IEM and compromise on 'your' sound because you may be doing gigs where you have a 15-30 minute turnaround with other bands. Don't take for granted you'll be getting good money; we've done gigs where I'd have been paid more for a pub covers gig. Some gigs 'might' end up being percentages of ticket sales (your band can of course refuse these). If you choose to do a tribute that is often covered, you'd better be significantly better than the local competition. If you choose a less obvious tribute, you could end up with very few gigs... it's a fine line. The singer/frontperson is where it is at (unless it is something like VH), so you'd be a numpty to join a band that doesn't have that main ingredient. If you elect to play 'Fake Festivals' you might need to travel considerable distances for gigs (does anyone in the band work on a Fri/Sat/Sun?), you are likely to be ofeered a series of gigs and you can't cherry pick otherwise the organiser will need to work twice as hard... and they don't like that!

If you set the pre dirty, you can stack it into the dist block, and also use the drive from the bass amps. On mine I'm using the bb preamp into the gain of the mesa amp block. but for me the bass drive is rubbish - as I can't seem to get enough low end for my taste

Really enjoying mine now I have it. I think I prefer the dirt in this compared to my GX-100. It's a shame you can't stack dirt though. And the Mesa amp sounds great with a bit of EQ changes to suit the bass. The reverbs and delays aren't as good as my Boss unit though.
