  1. Past hour
  2. Big Country, 'Steeltown'. Tony Butler is an absolute monster on this, superb melodic playing and a HUGE tone. And fabulous BVs too. Another guy to file under 'criminally underrated'.
  3. Thanks. It is indeed possible to turn the speaker sim off on the VTDI, but I guess I'm looking for a comparison of the two pedals as standalone - shame I no longer have my VTDI otherwise I could have loaned it to you to do a proper A/B, Peter!
  4. Men I Trust: Oncle Jazz Palm muted goodness, melodic lines, high in the mix, nice dreampop textures, a lucky find 🥰 The Poll Winners: The Poll Winners Ride Again Proper jazz, Ray Brown on bass, beautiful playing, Barney Kessel on guitar, any of their music is incredible 😍
  5. Off the bat, the VT’s speaker emulation is that of the 8x10. A lot of the B15 character is from the ported, baffled 15” cab so I expect there’ll be quite a noticeable difference there. If you can turn the speaker emulation off and run through an external IR, that’ll likely get closer.
  6. My heart goes out to his 2 young lads. Their dad was an important player.
  7. Sad to hear this, RIP Mani and condolences to his family and friends.
  8. MY 1987 CHERRY-RED JAYDEE MARK KING SERIES 2 I purchased this bass from the U.K. off of eBay 20 years ago. It had a major issue on the fingerboard as there was a high spot at the fourth fret making everything below those frets unplayable. I had a trusted guitar luthier friend of mine pull out all the frets, re-plane the fretboard level again, and then re-fret the bass. Problem solved. I also purchased new parts from John Diggins including all-new gold hardware and a pair of his hand-made humbucker pickups. After all that, the bass was almost excellent. The biggest problem is that since it has the tradition control-cavity sized circuit board, you have to remove the entire circuit board to access the pots just to clean them. (If I were Jaydee, I would have redesigned this particular circuit board so that it incorporated drilled access holes through the circuit board that lined up over the back of the pots to get a long spray nozzle tube so that you can spray contact cleaner without having to remove the entire board..........just a thought.)
  9. What amp did you use this with, and how well does it handle a low B? I'm up Hungerford way, we could meet in the middle? (about an hour each). Looks gorgeous.
  10. Exactly thanks. Two Origin pedals under one hood on the highly regarded Sansamp pedal, which is often available for around £150 used. So, back to my question of whether this is a material step up over the much loved VT Bass DI? Look forward to an unbiased A/B of the two in due course.
  11. Hey @MarkBuffaloStokes. I know it's almost a year later, but I wonder if your amp is still available? Unlikely, I know..
  12. One of my all-time faves and without doubt one of the good guys. RIP Mani 😔
  13. Fantastic bassist, some iconic riffs. She bangs the drum, immediately comes to mind.
  14. People seem to either love or hate theory. I have two friends who are both fantastic violinists and both saw grade 5 theory as a horrible thing to just get through. Whereas I have grade 6/7 theory now and can't enough. As well as it being necessary for progressing to higher grades I find it invaluable for songwriting and for improvising parts on the fly.
  15. Very sad to hear that, he was one of the players that got me interested in learning how to play. This one in particular always stood out to me. What an incredible player he was.
  16. Same here, so despite their policy saying that counterfeits are not acceptable, "We looked into your report and didn’t find the listing to be in violation of our policy. This determination was made by a customer service agent." Doesn't matter to me as I'll never be in the market for a Fender, but anyone who is should avoid Ebay. Also, perhaps some public-spirited BC experts could write a treatise on determining whether a Fender-labelled FSO is real or a fake, and that could then be pinned in (perhaps) the Gear | Bass Guitars section.
  17. Reminds me of some of the tracks he recorded for the Lakland bass demos waaay back on their site… presuming it was IMA that did those. He had some cracking tracks on those.
  18. Our local arts centre was one of the venues he was coming to on his talk/tour he was going to do. I thought 'blimey, that's a big name to come to this little old town'. I'm genuinely shocked.
  19. It was an auction so it would have probably reached a realistic price by the end. If it does re-appear with a significantly higher start price that might actually put some bidders off. I tried to buy a Shaftesbury-badged guitar version back in about 1976, but I couldn't persuade my parents to lend me the rest of the money I needed. IIRC although it was second hand, it was in immaculate condition and the shop only wanted £45 for it!
  20. It's up to you really. I only took grade 5 theory because I had to in order to progress onto higher level practical exams. I didn't take any other theory exams. There again I did do music at A level so wasn't exactly lacking in the theory side either.
  21. All four of the above will be getting blasted out on my Ric tonight. Albeit with way less finesse and talent than the man himself.
  22. already had enough corona after the last 6 years, and i'm not talking about the beer though I do love a good PINT
  23. Robert bought a tuner off me - he was a pleasure to deal with.
  24. Literally just saw this. Gutted. Probably the most quietly influential British bass player of the last 40 years. There is no bass player in the UK of a certain age who didn't implicitly know the bass parts to Fool's Gold, She Bangs The Drums or Waterfall, or that bass break from I Am The Resurrection.
