  1. Past hour
  2. having just glanced at it (and not tried it) I would be trialing just chords before onsong. What's the file format @GoodShowSir? I got used to the onsong syntax, is it similar?
  3. Ahhhhhh! All things must pass. Another piece of the jig-saw of my life gets lost under the carpet.
  4. I have the 2020 onsong - it was pay once and then no subscription model. It works if everyone has apple devices and uses it. I've spent so long building up a database of every song we ever sing in onsong format - to then find the new person who heads up the person reverted ... not to PDFs, but to folders of paper. I will be looking at this just chords thing
  5. "One man's Bongo is another man's G&L."
  6. Does JustChords link into SongSelect?
  7. I got a fretless Warwick thumb copy back in 1996 .Vester custom shop . Got it to see if I could play fretless ,and how difficult it would be to adapt .It looks the same as Tauzero’s above. The neck is fantastic, the strings are a very light gauge. I was told by a couple of basschatters who saw the bass , that it was a quality instrument. The strings are groundwound , which are supposedly expensive but make the bass really easy to play. It has a brass nut also. The only downside I’d say , is the weight .
  8. I played two festivals on Friday. At the first, we played to the security team. The second, we played to about 400. Madness.
  9. I’ve twice done gigs where the band outnumbered the punters, once because the venue f***ed up, once due to the bloody world cup final being on in the other side of the venue. Both were cracking gigs however, we got paid, enrolled punters into a jam session, and had fun. Easy to take it personally but it’s life 👍
  10. We've had a monthly gig for a while now. Last Sunday of the month at a nice venue. Only problem is no one ever turns up. We play to the bar staff and a couple of regulars. It's been a depressing experience for all involved and we've been waiting for the axe to fall. Finally it fell.
  11. I'd only played the demo model of the Shuker Artist, but IMO it wasn't anywhere like as good as a proper Rob Allen.
  12. Sire GB5 series, Godin A4/A5? Not UK-made obviously, but rather interesting and I think the Sire offers remarkable value for money.
  13. Ah yes followed by This is Amazing Grass 😅
  14. So... I would highly recommend you try JustChords instead. It's free so you can have a good play around, made by a few people really fed up with Onsongs stupid subscription costs for basic functionality. I love it. Just build up your database of songs, write notes if needed. Can change key easily and share set lists with people easily. I'm very much a music reader, (or chord reader for church i suppose :D) couldnt do without it now.
  15. Location: Teesside (N.E.)
  16. On Sunday I was the only person in the band without a tablet/phone for the music, albeit the singers were just using simple pdfs on their phones. The guitarist suggested I should think about getting "OnSong" (I have an ipad), so I was just wondering whether anyone here have used this and what they think about it?
  17. Today
  18. Have to say, I thought Phil’s kit was jarringly loud on the title track when I listened on 5.1..!
  19. The L-series basses are so good, if you can get your hands on one. In particular the MFD pick-ups, really flexible pre-amp and the saddle-lock bridge are uniquely G&L. I haven't tried them but the Fallout (beefy short scale) and Kiloton (Stingray/Pbass mix?) are meant to be ace. 'Vintage' models like the El Toro are ace, and on the guitar side there are some really great designs like the Espada or Comanche. Such a massive shame to see G&L go. I'll be holding onto my L2500!
  20. There's a current trend for reissues/remixes/remasters and some can be great whilst others just plain aren't as good as the original releases. The Giles Martin Beatles ones and Steven Wilson's reworking of Deep Purple Made In Japan are standouts which demonstrate what can be achieved in the hands of someone who knows what they are doing; Led Zeppelin's Houses Of The Holy is also surprisingly good. Others seem to be geared towards boosting the treble for someone who's played their system so loud they've blown the tweeters and as a result can sound pretty awful on a decent system (Dio's Last In Line and Alex Lifeson's Victor are examples). I've not heard The Lam Lies Down, so can't comment on that; however, my general comment is these reissues/remixes/remasters can be quite variable.
  21. Sometimes things are beyond your control. I played a venue (dedicated band space in the basement of a pub) which was usually well attended. That night, the audience was just the guy we had collecting money on the door and a young couple. We spoke to them after the gig - there had been a massive fight in the pub upstairs and they'd come down to avoid the chaos. In the duo we were often asked to play in pubs on a Sunday between 5pm and 7pm - the intention being to try and stop punters heading home for their dinners. It rarely worked and they were mostly poorly attended, with those watching largely the ones that had been drinking all day. The main problem with the duo (and trio when we added a drummer) was that we got gigs booked through an agent, which could be anywhere in the South Wales area (up to 2hrs drive each way). It meant that the usual way of guaranteeing some kind of audience - by supplying them ourselves - wasn't an option. We managed to develop a following of sorts for local gigs - perhaps 8-10 people would usually turn up to a pub - but it was dependent on the weather, time of year and what other events were on. The mistake we made with the local gigs is that we didn't vary the set enough and so people started to drift away as they became bored with what we were doing (as did I, eventually). My main band now only plays private functions (the dream of guaranteed audiences 😀) but when I play with other cover bands in music venues, we are very much at the mercy of the publicity that the venue provides. Most of them are pubs with live music and few people come to see a specific band. Instead they are there to start the night off before heading to a night club and will leave according to their own agenda and not the end of the gig. So the pub concentrates on advertising the venue, the offers on drinks and fact they have live music rather than the individual band itself.
  22. I've not really seen them around so they never really register with me. I did look in the second hand section here and the last 5-6 seemed to have sold. Lots of people seem to like them so I'll now keep an eye out and see if they work for me. Thanks Rob
