BlueMoon started following Laney Digbeth Preamp vs Nux MBP-5. Back to BDDI

I like the Laney Digbeth pre. For me it provides just enough, especially with a passive P bass and Markbass head. I don’t care so much for what I get from it when using active basses though. I have a BDDI in the drawer, which comes out from time to time. I’ve not tried the Nux.

A very hot and sticky this last Saturday; a Bikers Rally at the Breighton Ferry. Absolutely cracking gig with lots of enthusiastic punters; sound was a bit of a problem as there was a wall in front of me a couple of metres out which gave me some horrible harsh sound spikes in the first spot.....the ears are still complaining despite me having moulded 21db Decibulz plugs.....

Saturday evening saw Rascallion return to our spiritual home of Anderby Village Hall. The atmosphere was a bit subdued, partly due to the heat which had kept a number of regulars away and reduced the size of the audience, but also in the knowledge that the RNLI and Coastguard were engaged in searching for a teenager who was missing in the sea just a couple of miles away (sad to report, his body was located in the early hours of Sunday morning). After being fed and watered (copiously!), we launched into our usual opener of CCR's "Green River" with all due respect to John Fogerty who'd played the same tune (as well as several others of his / ours) at Glastonbury earlier in the day. Apart from a) forgetting to un-mute the amp as we kicked off (fortunately I was in the PA too, so nobody noticed the lack of bass apart from me and Mr Drums, and I managed to sort it a couple of bars in!), b) the usual couple of curveballs courtesy of Mr Singer (including an almost complete trainwreck in Steve Miller's "Rock'n' Me" which we somehow managed to salvage), and c) a few more minor incidents caused by sweaty fingers, we got through the evening OK, and even the new stuff we were debuting went acceptably well. Gear was my 1997 CIJ Jazz, Trace AH200 head (acquired from @Deedee on here) and Trace BLX-110 cab, the usual Micro Thumpinator > NUX tuner > Ampeg OptoComp > Ampeg Scrambler > Ampeg Liquifier > Ashdown 12-band Graphic EQ/DI > Behringer DI600P DI, with charcoal Converse AllStars taking care of the footwear department. Now, let's see if I can get a phone video snippet to load... AnderbyVH MJLD.mp4

Kneecap. I gave this a try and I am the wrong demographic. Maybe it’s an age thing but it just sounded like the generic noise I regularly hear coming out of Corsa’s with horrible body kits and the tinny headphones of yutes who like to eat Maccy Ds on public transport with their feet on the seats.

Just watching Prodigy. Holy crap they put on a hell of a show. Nice blend of electronic and traditional instruments. Their drummer has serious energy.
-
A batch recently became available so I ordered one. No sign of it being dispatched, a week after it was supposed to be, and they're showing as unavailable again. I have emailed them but no response yet.

The rot set in with rolling news. 24/7 coverage of what’s going on right NOW. Content becoming less relevant than immediate impact. It’s now not far off rubbernecking motorway pile ups and gossiping about celebrities. I largely ignore what passes for news now. On a Glastonbury note. Greentea Peng, Black Uhuru, Cymande, Ezra Collective. Just great.

Ouch. That's what stops me taking the expensive stuff - especially on easily accessible/zero stages. Never bothered me when it was the old jeans and T Shirt bands. BTW - Black bass and LEDS!

A P Bass would’ve been fine, but needs must.

Kay Pedulla 1970s Neck Through Bass
Bassassin replied to eubassix's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
It's an early 80s Korean-made Cort - sold under dozens of names but mainly Kay in the UK. I had one, it was pretty good, maybe not quite up to the level of similar Japanese basses from the same era, but getting there. Definitely no' bad for £50. -
Cool 😀 there are some low lows there for sure, even though I'm watching an audience recording of the FOH mix, I think.
-
In 35+ years of playing I still haven't tried one. But they do look lovely. Congrats!

I've got tickets and really can't wait. Not sure my wife is going to enjoy it though, I think the level of musicianship will go totally over her head 😆

Agreed it's a good price. Not sure what fixing up is either necessary or possible though? Other than a missing EQ slider tip it all looks fine. Depending upon the fixing centers, it could be a candidate to ditch the heavy wooden sleeve and mount in a lightweight ABS 19" case? -

That looks very nice! Congrats 😊 Played a couple of these over the years - hated the vintage one, but quite liked the modern 2010’s model. Enjoy!

That’s my brother’s mate Andy on bass for the Selector.
