So I have gone ahead and ordered the HB for her along with the Fender short scale gig bag which had good reviews. Just looking at a small combo for her. I was going to get the 20w HB bass combo at £70 but the reviews didn't seem too good. So I'll keep my eye out for something second hand. After that, I'll probably change the strings to a lighter gauge as well once I've looked at what's available. -
Mine is my lightweight bass! Its definitely lighter than my Spector and doesn't neck dive.

+1 for the HB. These basses punch way above their weight in every respect. Err, except weight, that is 🙂 -

Back for sale after timewaster messed me about - reason for return, i didn't mention the 3/1000th of an inch off the frets when levelled and crowned - a newbie that didnt know why fret jobs are done - was worried why it was done on a new guitar - so i explain why and luthier also offered to talk to him- kinda like taking a car back to the showroom as you'd included top spec instead of factory spec - anyways you people on here will appreciate a lovely neck finish - i think he just didnt know what he wants - good luck getting a cheaper bass with lovely fret ends - ah well we live and learn. For sale lovely birch green Fender player 2 i bought early this year and have recently been using this or P bass to see what fits what i'm doing and the P bass has won - for that middy growl. Have bought a Squire CV Jag as back up - so now this faces being an occasional bass and it's a great player, so should be someones to use. Made in Mexico these are now really good little basses. Great QC Had luthier sort the frets, which he levelled , crowned (they were flat from factory!) and ran glue under each to make sure they pinged and bevelled off the slightly rough edges, basically your getting a Plex job but done by the hands of someone with 40 years experience. So now with the rolled edge finger board, satin finish, it is great to play. Dark rosewood board, with maple neck, the body colour looks even better IRL. Weighs about 8.5lb but balances great. So lightweight and versatile. Strung with new Ernie Ball Super Slinky 40-100 - very nice action. Very useable pickups. Comfortable bridge for palm muting. Priced to sell - collect from Clitheroe or meet up or can post to UK in box for £20 - if i post there's no returns - it's a lovely bass and sure you'll be happy unless you're not all there like last buyer

My first bass amp was made by Ohm and was bought in about 1983 secondhand from ABC music along with a Laney 1x15" cab. I had a wave of nostalgia seeing a similar amp for sale on the cash converters website, however this one has a built-in compressor whereas I am certain that mine inexplicably had a built-in flanger instead of the compressor. I cannot remember the model number of the amp I owned, however I remember it looking very much like the GA140 in the listing. Does anyone else remember these amps? Was there a version with a flanger or am I misremembering?

Headless/ fretless bass for less than £1k

Licensed (read Cort built) Bartolinis like the old Mk series, tbh they might work for fretless more than on fretted. They don't sound like real Barts though, a shame as the Cort/Ibanez CND pickups sound like proper Nordstrands. Other possible outlays on the EHB series are replacing the stock knobs (horrid plastic things) and the need for a better gigbag than the one it comes with. -
He says Valeton are sending him one, so it’ll definitely be coming soon 😁

Do you have full control over your own monitor mix, eg via a phone app? My IEM experience was initially poor and hugely variable until I did.

Hoping for some advice from those of you who’ve been on the IEM journey that I’m just embarking on. I've come crashing into the 21st century and joined a band with a decent PA setup and who all use IEM. Not having used them before, I consulted this great thread and I’ve sorted myself some LS10 Pros and a P2 headphone amp. Plugging directly into my amp’s DI in my man-cave environment I get a pleasingly useable tone, nicely rounded and defined. Unfortunately we get almost no chance to rehearse, so I’ve had to hit the ground running with getting used to using the IEMS at gigs/live. Of the 3 gigs I’ve done so far with them, I’ve had mixed results. I’m tending to find the sound can get overly boomy and lacks definition, and last night the tone was really unpleasant – horrible top end coming through so all I could really hear was fret noise, with little definition. There was an unpleasant low mid-y dissonance to the tone which I couldn’t seem to dial out with my bass' EQ, so much so that it almost sounded out of tune (it wasn’t!!). I did have to have my amp stage volume turned down pretty low, so wonder if this contributed as the previous gig the sound was better, but can’t help thinking this was because sound from the amp was making up for inadequacies in ear. I realise this may be a mixer setup issue, and last night we briefly played with that (it had a preset tone curve from a previous bass player with mid-scoop), and effectively bypassed any EQ to my ear mix. This didn’t seem to help much, although there was a small improvement. There’s obviously limited scope to experiment in a gig environment. I do have particularly small ear canals (!) but feel like I get a reasonable seal from the IEMs after upgrading to comply foam tips; the guitarist and singer sound great in my ears. Even so, I guess I’m asking if what I’m experiencing sounds to you experienced folks like inadequacies with the seal or setup of my IEMS, or whether you think it lies in processing of the signal somewhere else between my bass amp’s DI and my IEM? Do you think I would benefit from a different IEM make/model with a different inherent tone? I am planning to go custom moulded at some point next year, but would like to get to a place where I’ve at least some experience and confidence with IEM under my belt before I splash the cash. Thanks in advance and apologies for the small essay!
