    I agree - I think they look daft. I suppose it makes it easier to buy stock for building 4/5/6-string models, but it doesn't seem to be reflected in a price reduction. The worst example was Status Graphite basses - I just don't like their more recent models.

    Yes, it's definitely got all the right ingredients - alder/maple construction, Nitro-Cellulose finish [to allow it to breathe/speak] & Pure Vintage 64 pickups. It's got that rich early 60's Jazz Bass sound with enough top end sparkle, but not over the top.

    Individual string bridges - I can understand their use on fanned fret basses, but they just look wrong when the frets aren't fanned. And even the most skilled luthier can't seem to make them line up properly:

    Mev Taylor's Music in Edinburgh. Always something of interest there. The original Live Music shop in Nicolson Street - 2nd hand heaven. Really not much happening in Edinburgh and its environs nowadays re music shops. GG is about it.

    Same for me really... Although, back in the 80's, for me, it was mainly the Bass Centre in Wapping. Apart from buying nearly all my gear from there (lots of it - especially strings), I found it to be a good socialising place. Well, that and the pub around the corner that we all used to visit. I lived just the other side of the river near Tower Bridge, so it was an easy walk for me.

    When I was visiting Matamp years ago, they had a one-off 400w Matamp that was commissioned by Julian Cope for live work. That was the first time I found out that he was a bassist.

    Fat Beams will retain the feel of your round core Sunbeams and give you more of the sound you’re after. I loved them on my Fender Jazz Bass.

    Played at Kent festival of scouting last night for the 14-17 year olds. The whole event was set up just like a proper music festival, and we were in a huge tent with stage, crowd barrier and pro sound team. The kids there were loving it. Earlier in the week the band had played at the opening ceremony on the main stage( I was on holiday and they had a dep) but apparantly the stage was last used at the Ozzy tribute at Villa Park. Couple of pics below of the venue before they were let in

    Ah, nostalgia..! There were also a few in Kingston (-Upon Thames...), Bell Music, Bell Road, Hounslow (pronounced 'Arnsler' by the natives...) and, for the brave, a 'front room of a terraced house-shop' in Hampton Hill; Mrs Nicholls opened the door. I don't think I ever saw the son whose 'shop' it was. Only s/h stuff, and pretty tatty, but it was all we could afford. Happy daze.

    You're going to be on the receiving end of dozens of recommendations, so start saving £££. I'll play along. Elixir Nanowebs. They're coated, either coated stainless steel or coated nickel plated steel; I'd say out of the box their steels have a slightly more zingy tone over the nickel-plated ones, but they just settle and then sets become indistinguishable from each other. Oh, and they last for ages.

    I've always wanted to try one of these, they look great and I presume they make all the right J-bass sounds, which are always pleasing to my ear (whereas the Precision tone really does nothing for me unless it's very bright and played with a pick, and even then...). I always thought the relic finish looked good but I've never inspected one up close to see if it looked really authentic or not. It wouldn't fuss me that much, I've always thought they looked good in pictures and when I've seen them on the racks at guitar shops etc.

    Needing a screwdriver to break into a battery compartment. It's literally broken many deals for me in the past.I was miffed when the 2nd generation Sires went that way when they were first released especially after the 1st gen didn't.

    "Eee, when all this was fields, I was early in my teens with a pocket full of money from my paper round..." There was a little music shop called Adam Music on Station Path, Staines. The limited stock was all cheap/copies, but to us, kids whose exposure to electric instruments was either TOTP, Beat Instrumental or the Bell catalogue, Adam Music was heaven. Beyond this, we kind of progressed on to ABC in Addlestone.

    What can I say about this pedal that hasn't already been said? Super cool and unique filter used by Flea and lots of other people. No other filter I've come across sounds quite like this little green beast, and it also does the famous "dub trick" of turning your bass into a subby monster by turning off the sensitivity so the filter doesn't open. It's been well used in it's ~30 year lifetime with a few bumps and scrapes in the finish, but all is working as it should. Somehow the notoriously "difficult to keep hold of" battery door is still intact on this one! No velcro, and rear sticker with serial number still intact also. Really cool pedal that I owned a number of years ago, and wanted to revisit it out of nostalgia! I've had my fun with it here at home, and now it's time to pass it on. Boss to 3.5mm power adaptor included. Looking for exactly what I paid for it from here a few weeks ago: £60. Add a £5er for delivery, or can be picked up from Ickenham NW London.
