  2. There's a new Overwater SS Model on their web-site this very day.
  3. I don’t do gigs for money really (although it’s an added bonus). I do it because I enjoy it and if I didn’t I’d stop. Sometimes I find it hard to turn things down because the people I play with are friends. I had a similar thing as you did in August and took the whole month off. It didn’t impact my playing at all and I felt loads better. I’ve started listening to different music. I’ve found some incredible new stuff I’d never have ever considered listening to and (guess what?) it’s made me pick up the bass and try and play along.
  4. I love this one: https://yamahaguitardevelopment.com/2023/10/26/yamaha-guitar-development-custom-shop-amos-heller/ Exotic top bb! They could certainly do more like this as a production model.
  5. I haven't played a Serek, though hear only very good things. I have owned a couple of Wilcocks. Both superb basses and Viv Wilcock is building some outstanding instruments. I only sold mine as I prefer active basses (I think this is something that Viv now offers). My personal favourite short-scale is the US Spector Shorty. I think that there were only around 40 built (and I suspect it's a discontinued model), though one with lots of variations in terms of finish and electronics. They appear rarely but well worth a look if you see one. There's the European built Spector Bantam and it's fairly similar to the Shorty - I haven't owned one, but I'd imagine that build quality will be superb. Another favourite is the Alembic small-bodied short-scale (Stanley Clarke and other options) - weird ergonomics and not cheap but, as one would expect, extraordinary instruments. We're fortunate to have some great builders in the UK and beyond taking short-scale very seriously.
  6. I’ve gone for a shrunk down one compare to you beast of the board! This is for double bass in a psych / blues style. About 50 minutes from trying it out...
  7. i now did the convert to a headphones in bay last 2 anyone ?
  8. I sold Gary's old Charvel bass back to Gary, some 14 years later! Super sound bloke. Cheers Gary!
  9. I stopped in the early 90s for about 5 years. I’d been in 2 bands since the late 80s that had been trying to make it and both experiences had made me completely fed up with music. In that 5 year period I hardly bought any music, wasn’t that bothered about listening to it either, only went to a few gigs if that. But the bug bit again, guitar first, bought myself a Strat, from then on pretty much been in gigging bands ever since, guitar occasionally but bass is my home. And it’s my hobby, what I do for fun and to chill. I’m glad I picked it up again, I’ve achieved more than I ever thought I would, but I needed those 5 years off.
  10. I stopped playing for close to 20 years between 1985 and 2003. I had far more success and status in the former, far more joy and satisfaction in the latter 👍

  12. ***PRICE DROP NOW £1300*** 2010 US Stingray, 2EQ, CAR with rosewood board. One of the limited edition 133 basses, full fat ‘ray but with a soft gig bag case instead of a hard shell job. This is in excellent condition with one very minor ding on the top edge, and the pickguard is quite marked but obviously easily replaceable. Comes with a Hipshot D-tuner (long key though instead of short… doh), if you want the original tuner key I’ll chuck it in. I’ve also replaced the pickup with a Nordstrand MM4.2, which sounds flippin’ great. She’s quite heavy (10lb) but with a decent wide strap it feels ok. ***EDIT*** now comes with the option of a Warwick Rockbass semi-rigid case - photos added. Loathe to post this but can at buyer’s (insured) expense, or can meet in person at either Portsmouth, Southsea, Southampton or Lymington (I’m on the I.O.W.)

  13. I'm not going to be able to make it, alas. Too much going on around here to be able to take off (literally) for a weekend back in Blighty. Maybe next year.
  14. i stopped playing for a few year about 20 years back and when i resumed i found i was more able to identify and drop bad habits that i had previously gotten used to
  15. Thanks so much for the offer, I think we've sorted it now mate 🙏
  16. I’ve played Bach’s cello suites on guitar, baroque lute, and tenor banjo. Playing them in 5ths tuning was a revelation. I’ve never been convinced they work well in standard bass tuning. Now I’m dreaming of playing them on a fretless bass in 5ths tuning. Anyone done this? What strings to use to get the tuning? Original keys are not something Bach was too concerned with, as he changed the 5th suite from Cm to Gm when arranging it for lute. So the bass would not have to be tuned to the cello tuning of CGDA (bass to treble), as long as they are in 5ths. Any ideas?
  17. Wilcock and Serek are the premium SS companies IMO, with Sandberg not far behind. Maruszczyk do SS a Jake (P basses).
  18. Well, our very own @Kiwi is doing his graphite neck thing, there's Klos, who are making Modulus-esque basses and replacement necks, Modulus and Zon are still going in the US, and the Germans like Bogart and Clover are still offering graphite necks on their instruments. Supposedly Mike from Zoot will soon be joining the graphite club. In terms of using alternative materials, there's also Aristides out of the Netherlands, who make guitars and basses out of something they call Arium. No idea what's in it, it's some kind of reinforced resin.
  19. Taken from a 2011 Mex Std Precision - I prefer rosewood.. In good condition - a couple of small dings to the headstock lower edge but you have to feel for them. 1-3-5 frets slightly grooved but plenty of miles left. Nut was filed for low B (135) but 105 still sits just fine - I never bothered refilling it when I swapped back. Heel dated June 2011. Fender serial lookup says... Fingerboard Maple Fingerboard Radius 9.5" (241 mm) Fret Size Medium Jumbo Neck Shape Modern "C" Number of Frets 20 Nut Material Synthetic Bone Nut Width 1.625" (41.3 mm) Position Inlays Black Dot

  21. A very nice looking bass at a very good price - a lovely destination for the proceeds of the sale too
  22. Squier Precision Bass neck from 1997. In good condition, fully loaded and also comes with neck/serial number plate, screws, knobs and bridge plus screws. Chinese made Affinity from the Yako factory apparently and well regarded budget instruments of the time. It’s a modern feeling neck. Truss rod turns left and right, frets are fine. Nice neck for a project. I can post in the UK only for free if you can’t pick it up.
