  1. Past hour
  2. I've heard the story of it being double-tracked with an acoustic bass for years, I'd never have guessed that by just hearing the song but I have always thought the bass on that song sounds different to the rest of the album. Rain When I Die and Rooster, for example, both sound like a regular Spector tone to me.
  3. Been looking forward to this arriving! The Pill from Switzerland - sidechain compression / ducking effect. You can use the touch sensitive controls to trigger the effect, but I've got some patterns coming out Ableton that I'll send into the trigger input. Looking forward to seeing what it can do!!
  4. Never Tear Us Apart - INXS
  5. Sad times. I had a preamp of theirs which had a variable z (impedance) switch on it. I have no idea what it did technically, but it made my bass roar. I should have left that bass exactly as it was.
  6. Congrats Carlitos! Looks lovely. I played one at BassDirect a few years ago and really liked the snappy howl they produce. I really like dealing with Will at BassBros. Bought my KingBass Mk-II from him.
  7. Seems a slightly odd choice but whatever works... I've heard that some of the Finnish metal bands would use some ridiculous techniques with guitar tones. One was recording a guitar track with a tea-towel wrapped around the strumming hand. They would typically record as many different ways they could think of and mix and match to achieve the ultimate desired result.
  8. And another vote for the TCE Spark Booster. I find its very transparent so doesnt change the tone too much, just adds a bit more depth.
  9. Those old Carol Kaye lines were usually doubled with a Fender Bass VI and plectrum so I can see doing it with an acoustic giving a little chorus feel and more attack that only an acoustic instrument can give. Now you'll need a piezo equipped bass to do it live!
  10. Chopped In Half - Obituary
  11. Yes, on a payday promise.
  12. Hi, For sale the above, in full working order and great condition. Not needed now, recording finished. Price includes UK Mainland Delivery.
  13. I know the thread is about the more creative/ interesting Bass lines of decades gone by, but other stuff stands out to me as well... After just listening to all those tunes on the above list over on YouTube, apart from three of those tunes, the rest all have string arrangements (very good charts that are obviously arranged by experienced arrangers). Of the three that don't, one has excellent Brass arranging and two have very good, creative, vocal harmony arranging. So, to me, all the above, and including the very fine musicianship involved, elevates those tunes above 'dross'. It may well be music that you don't like, but to my ears, not dross. Just my musical opinion(s), of course.
  14. Hi all, Just wanted to share my new (used) Dingwall Combustion that I got a couple of weeks ago from Bass Bros (great service btw). It’s my first 5 string bass (after decades refusing to get one!) and couldn’t be happier. Great to play, easier to get used to (multi-scale) that you’d think and hoping to rehearse or gig with it sometime soon. Let me know if any questions. e05e6bea-adca-4279-899e-4e4993d10c1c.mov
  15. Double tracking is pretty standard but I've never heard of double tracking using an acoustic behind a distorted electric bass.
  16. I have one of these and it’s one of my favorite basses. I don’t think I’ll ever sell mine. They are very rare to find. Whoever buys, will enjoy it very much. Good luck with the sale.
  17. Cuts Like A Knife - Bryan Adams
  18. Yes think so. Absolutely grade A sanding and sealing job - done by someone who knows what they’re doing. Not sure about the heal but really comfortable
  19. There are 14 'Ranks' and 4 Badges. The 4th badge requires you to 'like' all 5,000,000 basschat posts.
  20. Today
  21. Absolutely lovely! Has the entire bass been stripped (front of headstock apart)? Also, has the heel been slightly reshaped (could be just the finish or light in the images)? A very cool bass
  22. 37 Stitches - Drowning Pool
  23. As anyone who owns one of these amps knows, they sound great, have all the gubbins you need on them, are loud BUT so is the fan. It's a bit like having your own aircon unit soundwise. When you're playing it's not an issue, I wouldn't sell it just because of the fan noier but, we'll you know.🙂 Has anyone sourced a quiter replacement fan? From what I've researched it's tricky if not impossible.
  24. Selling this Micro Fuzz from Kong. Comes with a blend Knob so no lowend loss. 2 types of fuzz, “bass” side is more of a vintage germanium type, the “treble” side is a trebly fuzz. In as new condition, never mounted on a pedalboard nor gigged. £30 posted within mainland UK.
