The DM610 is a large bookshelf/standmount speaker from renowned hi-fi brand B&W, featuring a well-braced 30-litre sealed cabinet with 8-inch mid-bass driver. The larger driver and extra cabinet space create a much better low end range than from most similar speakers. This model allows for either bi-wiring or bi-amplification. These speakers present clean tight bass response, surprisingly clear mids for such a large driver and the pleasant highs that the well-designed B&W tweeter at that time was famous for. They can be driven quite loud, enough for the physical effect of the bass to be felt without audible distortion or a sense of sound compression. Both speakers are in Very Good condition, especially for their vintage. All-original, complete with full grilles (one of which has a small hole, shown in the final photo). Only £125. Collection from Bournemouth BH6 preferred. Here comes the science bit… Type: 2-way closed, shelf speaker Colour: Ash black veneer Dimensions: 490 x 236 x 303 mm (H x W x D) Weight: 7.8 kg Recommended amplifier power: 30-150 W Frequency response: 70 - 20,000 Hz (±2 dB) Crossover: 2500 Impedance: 4 Ohm

I visited the Gibson Garage in London yesterday after touring Denmark Street. I have been to the garage a few times before so I knew not to expect to see many basses — there were probably about half a dozen on display. I ended up buying a beautiful cherry 'inspired by gibson custom' epiphone firebird and couple of t-shirts, and the branded pleckies that are offered when trying an instrument are a cool touch. I didn't want the hassle of lugging the huge firebird hard case back home on the tube & bus, so it will be delivered on Tuesday or Wednesday next week. (when the missus will be back at work.)

I like Davey and Charles in smallish doses. Davey seems to try to give off the impression that he has almost mystical abilities that make everything he does effortless, although it's clear to anyone familiar with the instrument that there's thousands of hours of practice behind his skills. Charles makes no secret of his extensive musical education and I'm happy for him that he's found a way to make a living from it. Sapko is a different beast, whilst he's clearly a very good player, his social media stuff has more of a stand up comedy vibe,he's trying to provoke a reaction with what he says rather than impress people with his playing. I've warmed to himin the last few months, but it's no suprise that he winds some people up.

Not my favourite sound. Has a very metallic sound to me. Does that bass have a metal fretboard? Alembic tried that for John McVie many years ago. Not sure that worked either.

Were totally in love as a band with our new EV's we went with a pair of EV ZLX 15P G2's were running full band , fully ampless with mic'd drums into it and it doesn't bat an eyelid ... were playing pretty loud punk rock shows and they are run at +2 the thing goes to from -12 +12 , We've totally kicked the idea of Subs to the kerb as if were playing anything we'd have venue front of house. Its got all 3 flavours of Modular , Darkglass , Quad cortex and the new fender Tonemaster , stuff.

I quite enjoy hearing new things or techniques. I like to pick out little bits and try to learn them. Would never use in a band situation but it makes playing a little bit more fun. I have seen CB playing in bands on Youtube clips and playing "normal" by his standard. He is a very talented guy who is able to adapt to whatever the band wants or needs. I'm guessing he now makes a small fortune from his vids. Also like Dave504 as he's just a nut job that plays bass but its funny. Not so keen on the other guy Danny Sapko. He can play pretty well but i just find his personality a bit irritating. Dave

I’m going to find the magic talent tree

I find that when we come to record the songs I'll often simplify down my bass lines as some of the runs and fills get in the way of the vocals which after all are the most important thing to the average listener.
-
Can't fault his playing or arrangement but there's something about his tone there that I actually find quite unpleasant. Might be a product of listening through phone speakers but the treble frequencies are really quite harsh to my ears.

Charles B inspired me that learning bass would be fun, also highlighting in his videos just how easy it really is, so I bought a bass and started playing it. Wasn't long before I could play all four parts of any arrangement at once as well.

Working through the ABRSM piano grades
LawrenceH replied to bass_dinger's topic in Other Instruments
In terms of cost - the 'right kind' of charity shop (eg Oxfam book shop in posh area) is always worth a look in for sheet music including many grade books. I personally remember only ever getting the main pieces book and the scales and arpeggios one, and even there, I think if you just get the one for a higher grade it contains all the info you need for lower as a default. Meanwhile a single good book on music theory covers everything you need to know up to grade 5 theory for any instrument. Finally, any teacher my or my kids have had would provide photocopies of necessary/useful extras. I even remember using the local library for some stuff. -
CB has put together a very nice arrangement of a Beatles tune, along with top playing as usual:

And she's arrived. First time using https://www.theguitarstoreonline.co.uk/, can't fault it so far, free next day delivery and 5% off your first order, that'll do nicely. Tonight shall consist of mostly alcohol and a potent mix of pleasure and frustration. Then i'll give the MXR a go.
