The reason was that my other half didn't have a clue if I said "The Telecaster, "The Precision or whatever......so now it's "Red", "Angie" or "Blondie", and she refers to them as the Blonde, the Brunette and the Redhead.....or collectively - "The Tarts". I know I don't do it with any of my possessions as far as I'm aware. However, I then realised I posted a comment in regards to [url="http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?s=&showtopic=68066&view=findpost&p=668443"]this post in the Porn section[/url] which unless I'm all confused, is one of Beedster's from back in the day, a certain white precision known as Kylie. That bass has been named and it's stuck. I think it will always be Kylie to those who own it (if they're BC members and know it's history). I feel such a connection and I spend a lot of time with her, so a name seems an appropriate way to express my affection. For example I call my lead singer's synth keyboard 'Synthia' (which I'm pleased to say has caught on, even after being caught drooling on her...don't ask), the other fine example is calling my Trace Elliot bass head 'Tracy' but that's just obvious... I'm yet to think of anything fitting for any other gear, but I'm sure with the amount of time spent alone and in recluse from Christmas this year I will have some good'ns :brow: Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I don't ever say thing like "I play her", etc, etc. Wouldn't say there was something wrong with me for it tho haha. It's like naming a car. Some people do, some people don't! Ended up referring once to my Vampyre as Vanessa. Just thinking of Vanessa Warwick... the old Headbanger's Ball presenter on MTV. Unfortunately the name stuck... but I try not to use it around people. On the other hand, I used to spend a lot of time setting up servers which need network names and always found it so boring to use a naming scheme like apps002... so coming up with cool names was always the highlight of my job. I've since named my other basses but they haven't really stuck so they're usually 'the Sterling', 'the Aria' etc. but Barbara is always Barbara and never 'the Eminence'. Thinking about it, I always use the names when my other half asks which basses I'm taking - maybe it's more of a female thing?
