Clarky
[s]I have three Herco Flex 75s that I do not use and - as these seem to be in short supply and popular - I am happy to stick them in the mail to anyone that wants 'em. PM me with your name, address and Swiss bank account details - well just the first two will do. First come, first served.[/s]GONE! PS, I have a personalised pick collection from metal bass-playing greats and just posted them in the Gear Porn section http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;#entry535388 Edited July 8, 2009 by Clarky

Aaren J
2.0 mm graphite picks, and 1.00 metal picks. I never use plastic ones anymore.
tauzero
Yet another 1mm JD user - I mostly do fingers so I use the same plectrums as I use to play guitar. There used to be an uncoloured nylon plectrum very similar to the JD but a bit thicker, that came in four flex ratings, 1 to 4. I'd love another few of those but haven't seen them for years. spinynorman
Herco Flex 75s. Very difficult to get hold of in the UK at the moment for some reason. They are on the Jim Dunlop USA web site, but the UK distributor of Jim Dunlop doesn't carry them. Special order took months so it's just as well I now have 200 minus however many I've managed to lose so far!
I was looking at those yesterday. Didn't buy any cos I got a job lot of Dunlops off eBay, but maybe I will now. Delivery is a bit of a turn off - Stringsdirect want £1 postage for £2 worth of picks, so probably only viable if you're also buying something else. Strings Direct - Herco Here as well Stringbusters - Herco
KevB
Does anyone know if the Jim Dunlop nylon 1mm come in any colour other than black? I use them pretty much exclusively but they are easily misplaced and on dark stages etc black is very easily lost!

However I wanted to buy a box of 100 (something that is possible in the US where the retail price of a box is $40) not individually. Plus at the time I needed to buy neither of these had any in stock at all let alone 100.
Golchen
I've never even tried a plectrum on bass! Am I missing out here? When I want that fast alt picking I just use my index finger + thumb together - I think they call it chucking? Maybe I'll dig out a plec tonight and try it ........... Clarky
When I want that fast alt picking I just use my index finger + thumb together - I think they call it chucking?
Out of interest, would you be able to play, say, a Ramones song with continual 16th notes by "chucking"? I ask as I would like to play finger-style but the types of music I play seems to preclude it (ie, I feel compelled to use a pick, if only to keep up the pace) Edited July 8, 2009 by Clarky

But as a style I'd say no as it would just wear your fingernail off! For many years I played electric guitar without using a plectrum, but with lots of fast alt picking using basically my index fingernail. The nail grew to be perpetually thin and always broke, so I took to sticking a false nail on it, before eventually giving up and using plectrums. I still hate strumming with plecs though! Marky L
I used to use Jim Dunlop 1mm black nylon (they are nylon aren't they?) but moved to Wedgie XT 1mm. I much prefer them as they are concave where your thumb goes and a textured grip of course which just gives me perfect grip when it get's a bit sweaty. Any of you JD users I'd really recommend you have a go with them... and if anyone can find out where I can get a box full online in the UK I'd be obliged as I'm buggered if I can remember where I bought them from!! And I want to try a metal one.. any recommendations? I like a little bit of flex in my picks.. hence the 1mm nylons.
webby
Herco picks are available on ebay at the moment. I just ordered some myself. I had one a while back, although I didn't know it was a Herco, until today. I saw them mentioned in another thread and googled them and realised that's the pick I've been after. HMX
Dunlop Tortex 1.2mm for me (the purple ones).
Lozz196
Dunlop Tortex "The Wedge" 1.14mm. They`ve got a cool purple tortoise/turtle on them! Oh, and they are good by the way, I don`t use them specifically because of the tortoise. Nice large plec, easy to grip, and a more pointed tip. charic
I'm different apparently! I use Brain Picks. Bright orange (harder to lose), have a grip (harder to drop) and 1.14mm for bass (also use for guitar but can't remember the thickness)
