Looking to replace our home office chair. The current one was selected by my son as a computer gamer chair. It's been heavily used and abused and needs to go.

I'm looking for something that I can sit and play bass on. ie removable arms or arms that can adjust well out of the way.

What are you using?

A search for 'lift up arms' with Office Chair, Gaming Chair, musician's chair comes up with a few ideas.

Think the IKEA one isn't going to work as ideally want the arms on and off.

And the Herman Miller ones are what we use at work. Keeping hold of a working one is impossible. I'm considering chaining mine down. 😬

Sellotape a piece of paper to the back of the chair with the word 'Soiled' written on it and at the end of the day move it to a corner, away from a desk. People wont risk using it.

I bought this in May 23 (assuming it's still the same one they're sending out, but I pulled this from my previous orders, and it looks the same). It's been used pretty much daily, and is still solid and in great condition. I find it comfy enough to work in when I'm WFH, and it's fine for playing.

I bought a boules mesh chair as I work from home and I wanted a decent chair (actually, my wife wanted to throw out my old chair as it was very grubby), and it was without doubt the worst chair I had ever sat on, no idea who it was moddled on but it was terrible. So we contacted them back, they sent a cushion, and that didn't cut it. So we wrote back and they said I could swap for a different chair, so I swapped for a Master chair, which was also on sale at the time and it is the most comfortable chair I have had. I never worked out how one company could produce two so totally different chairs! Anyway, that one is fantastic

I picked the Ikea ALEFJÄLL. High chairs don't really add anything for me, I just wanted good lower back support. The armrests are just long enough to support my elbows and short enough to not get in the way when playing bass.

This topic is most useful . I’ll be looking for something myself in the not too distant ! A friend of mine has a drummers stool , which might be something to consider also. I think it’s made by protection racket 🤔

In about 2005 I needed a new "office seat" for home use and after using a KAB Controller office chair at work for a few years I decided to take the plunge. Most other office chairs I've had or used ended up being uncomfortable or just dropping to bits. The KAB isn't cheap at about £1,000 but is VERY adjustable with height, tilt, weight, headrest adjust, lumbar air support etc.

After 20+ years of daily general use it is still in great fully functional condition and you can get spares. Note: from 2020 I worked from home as well so thats 12hrs per day, 7 days per week. The arms also pivot up so I can use it to play bass on as well 👍

I'd love to have a Herman Miller, however my budget is a little more modest.

I bought this chair three years ago, replace an Ikea Markus which disintegrated. I use my chair almost all day, every day: https://amzn.to/43MVVGl

The flip-up arms make it ideal for practice & recording bass/guitar.

An essential upgrade for any office chair, especially on a laminate floor, is a set of roller skate-style wheels. These are the ones I bought with the chair: https://amzn.to/3JTF2mB

The total outlay for the chair & wheels is still under £140.

Aeron remastered. You’ll never need to buy another chair and you can find pristine examples for well under half the cost of a new one on eBay, gumtree etc.

Arms swivel in and out and slide back out of the way or quick release up/ down/ off.
