mep Posted May 6 Posted May 6 (edited) A statue of Lemmy is going to be unveiled in his home town of Stoke-on-Trent later this week. BBC News - Statue of Stoke-on-Trent native Lemmy to be unveiled in Burslem - BBC News https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c5ylnyrydl0o Edited May 6 by mep 5 Quote
SteveXFR Posted May 6 Posted May 6 Well deserved. I can't think of a more iconic and influential rock star than Lemmy. He'll really brighten up that Metropolis 3 1 Quote
SteveXFR Posted May 6 Posted May 6 There's a few Lemmy statues already. There's one in LA and one at the Hellfest site in Clisson, France. There can't be many musicians with multiple statues. I think Freddie Mercury has a few. 1 Quote

Downunderwonder Posted Saturday at 07:56 Posted Saturday at 07:56 Good job. If I am ever over that way I will pop by. Is that a lightning rod extension to the mic? Quote
Beer of the Bass Posted Saturday at 09:01 Posted Saturday at 09:01 Wonder if they'll get an angry letter from John Hall's legal team for the shape of the bass? 11 Quote
KingBollock Posted Saturday at 09:56 Posted Saturday at 09:56 I am so glad they went with a healthy Lemmy, rather than the very obviously sick and dying one in the Rainbow Bar & Grill. I think he’d have hated that one, but he would have approved of this new one. I will be going to see it as soon as I can get up to the Midlands. 3 Quote
Cato Posted Saturday at 09:58 Posted Saturday at 09:58 (edited) Considering how bad a lot of modern statues are, this one is an exceptional likeness. I've nicked this pic of the statue in the workshop, because it's the only image I've found so far that clearly shows the face. Nice detail on the hands too "Cast in bronze, the statue portrays Lemmy with his Rickenbacker 4001 bass, his head tilted up towards the microphone, playing the opening chord to their 1979 hit Overkill" Excellent job, both the artist and Stoke on Trent should be delighted. Skybone Posted Saturday at 15:22 Posted Saturday at 15:22 Apparently it was modelled on some pictures from their 1981 gig at the Port Vale FC ground. ♠️ Quote
SteveXFR Posted Saturday at 17:14 Posted Saturday at 17:14 I may choose to visit the statue at Hellfest in France rather than Stoke on Trent. It does look really good though. Quote

upside downer Posted Saturday at 19:59 Posted Saturday at 19:59 It's an outstanding piece of work. What are the pigeons like in the area? I'd like the statue to Stay Clean... 3 Quote
PaulThePlug Posted Saturday at 20:02 Posted Saturday at 20:02 A little plaque would do, still think a statue is Over The Top... 1 Quote

cheddatom Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago I'm from Stoke so kind of proud of this, but to be honest I've never listened to much of Lemmy's work. I did think he was known as a pick player, but this statue shows fingerstyle. I guess he did both else someone would have pointed it out already? Quote

Or it just wasn't funny 😜 I got it, I’m just rubbish at remembering to react to stuff! Unfortunately, all my Motörhead vinyl got really badly water damaged. It included over 40 albums (including compilations and bootlegs) and I can’t even remember how many singles (12” and 7”). Including several coloured ones, even my beautiful blue Bomber album. So, so gutted! They were kept separate from my other vinyl. The only ones that were saved were the leather sleeved No Remorse (thanks to the leather) and the 10” St Valentines Day Massacre, which was on display elsewhere; lost the 7” and 12”, though.
