From the limited number of non-Liam-and-Noel pics I've seen of the Cardiff show, he was playing his black Burns Bison. unless you can tell a difference from hearing gig or recording does it matter? amused me that the Rod Stewart bassist used 3 basses at Glastonbury and you could hardly hear him, never mind tell any difference between them I used a different bass at one of our gigs, I said to my partner afterwards how it sounded, she replied "It sounded like a bass!" 😂 1 Quote

Could barely hear him in the footage I've seen though. There was bass, but it was kinda mushy. Nobody goes to an Oasis show to watch the bass player though. Quote

How many times have I heard that from the punters. On the other hand I did a festival years back and you could have sworn I was playing an Alembic with fresh rounds. I was actually playing an old P bass with very dead Chromes. FOH will do with us as they see fit., 1 Quote

Back on track, yeah I suppose the bass isn’t particularly prominent in Oasis but it has to be there, interesting to see the choice made about gear selected for a foundational role rather than cutting through. 1 Quote
AndyTravis Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago @Lozz196 the pics I’ve seen look like a 68-74 sunburst P 1 Quote

I guess the pictures I saw must have been old, Andy was definitely playing a sunburst P (and had shorter hair than the pics where he was playing the Burns). Andy's actually a bloody good musician, his guitar work in Ride was excellent, and, frankly, he's a bit wasted in Oasis. But the pay is probably far, far better! Quote

It's almost as if virtuoso or groundbreaking bass players have never existed. We've retreated (or been relegated) to a role that the bass should have escaped by the 60s. Oasis isn't a bass player band anyway, but Andy Bell is probably the best guitarist in that band and he's not even playing guitar. Can't have Noel feel inferior can we? Quote
la bam Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago He used to have a sunburst p years back. From memory the famous(ish) picture with the green and blue striped top he has one.... I only remember as I used to be in an oasis tribute and spent ages trying to find that top! Quote

Go let it out was a banger, “pick up the bass” That was Noel on a 4005 after Guigsy left. i’ll say though, if you actually listen rather than dismiss…it was a fairly present bass sound. I dunno, I like oasis so. Quote

I dunno, I like oasis so. I thought Go Let It Out wasn't very good to be honest and I saw them on that tour at Murrayfield in 2000. They played pretty much the same set that they played at Cardiff the other day. An old one. They lost relevance post 1996 with awful material and terribly produced albums. It's not like I don't like them as a band per se, but they've released much more crap material than great. Quote
la bam Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago (edited) I much preferred guigsy on bass. More melodic and bass like. When Andy Bell took over (no disrespect to him) it just sounded like noel (as a guitarist) had written all the bass lines, but in a guitarist style. No contrast between guitars and bass. They didn't do anything for me after guigsy. Edited 1 hour ago by la bam 2 Quote

I’d happily say the same about Rod Stewart, David Bowie, The Stones, The Who… All bands have their breakthrough golden moments and the dregs of whatever career they can manage thereafter. Jesus, look at Metallica…haven’t done a decent album since 1991… RHCP depending what you think…maybe “By The Way” Was passable? As a point I love all the acts mentioned above - but skip huge swathes of songs as I listen. 1 Quote

Same, I liked that one, though very interesting that the Oasis song with the best bass is one with Noel playing, maybe he couldn’t stand anything he’d played not being prominent in the mix? Quote
