What would you say the body wood was on that one to be so heavy

I think it’s the extra weight added by the fairy dust that gets  automatically pushed into a production line item by the mere passage of time

is a mint 1985 Ford escort a better car somehow than it once was just because it didn’t get crashed on to way to now ?

<cynic mode off>

apologies @Reggaebass I don’t mean to offend, you can spend your money how you wish. I’m not saying they don’t sound good, just that I object to the assertion that they’re somehow automatically better than a modern fender

Cool 👍, perhaps I haven’t had enough coffee, I didn’t understand what you meant 🙂

In the mid 70’s I picked up a lightly used 72 Pbass. Light. Great bass. Everyone that picked it up would invariably say “this is a nice one”. Despite everybody suggesting I drop in a DiMarzio , BadAss bridge and brass nut I left it stock. Today it seems all the rest are miraculously all stock now too. It wasn’t so back in the day. My old Pbass was pristine when I found it , today it looks like it went through the Boer War. It still plays beautifully.

My only complaint was that at the time I felt it was all the bass I’d need. That was a mistake , I missed a lot of deals back before the term vintage came into play. Old stuff was cheap. Today I regret not buying more stuff. It seems I’ve tried to correct that by having too much stuff today.

I think it was around 74 when the heavy ones first appeared. They were said to have much better sustain, and people would go out of their way to snag a heavy one.

Hi all, I’ve enquired about a 74 precision which has in the listing, THIS BASS HAS TOURED THE WORLD WITH KENNY BALL AND HIS JAZZ MEN, I’ve heard of Kenny ball but don’t know much, most of the pictures I’ve seen have an upright bass , any idea who it might have belonged to

edit, found him , it’s John Benson 👍

Blimey KB isn't still going is he?  I remember my mum saying what a nice bloke he was, as they knew him, but this would've been in the late 50s !

Did you remove the link to stop someone else buying it? Love that.

Why not. I’d have done the same if I was interested in it. Seems like a great bass, and would love to know more if you get it:

If I as in the market, which I am unlikely to be for a few years, then that is a bass that I might have gone for! Good luck mate...
