I haven't been here in a while and your pedal boards are the stuff of quality ..there are still a few bits on here that I would change/add to..but I have finally removed my line 6 pod bass xt live from the centre in favour of single pedals. My original layout is on here somewhere...I am deep on the hunt for a phaser (thinking strongly about the source audio lunar phaser..any thoughts?) a decent delay, volume pedal, compressor and I really like the the sounds in the eventide pitch factor and/or time factor..I also desperately need some new patch leads to free some space..george ls/lava etc..best I get saving big time!

The midi mouse controls the filter pro that is normally in my rack with tuner and my DBS 7400 heads (x2) this kit effectively gives me 3 separate channels..2 completely separate and one of which goes through the Ls2 to give me third..The latest addition is the Way huge from my lovely missus for Chrimbo…This is the board that I used touring with our Muse trib…wish I had got rid of the Line 6 when on the road..great on its own but not with theses pedals..they sing now...had no idea how much it had screwed with the tone of these pedals…live and learn..

think they need a clean…tut tut

new pic of my board. i have played this setup for a few months and a few gigs now, and think I've settled on this for the new band, though we're into the studio in 5 or 6 weeks, no doubt it'll all change after that! :)

still itching to try an EQD afterneath...

Nice I just got a tk on loan from cog for a video and a two channel pumpkin pi fuzz from green carrot pedals.

  • 2 weeks later...

It's been a while since I posted my board, so here's the latest set up.

The signal path is:
Line6 G30,
In/Out box,
Zoom MS60B,
Bass Soul Food,
Blueberry,
Ginger,
COG parallel blender - Loop 1 = Knightfall 66, Grand Tarkin, GR2.
- Loop 2 = DOD Octaver.
In/Out box, to amp.

It's fairly obvious I like my drive pedals. The GR2 is fairly new to me but it's just so good, my best giggable filter yet. The Blueberry & Ginger get used for more blues/soul/funk gigs. I usually swap them out for an Xotic BB & a Catalinbread or COG boost pedal for rockier stuff.

Cheers Dan. I was using a Diago Showman up till a couple of months ago. I had it full of pedals but it was pure overkill, so I slimmed down to this with all my current favourites. The one thing left to get is a B3K which will probably replace the Soul Food. I got the Ginger made for me by VFE. It cost about £113 delivered from the States and took about 8 weeks.

The Ginger and the bearfoot are 2 pedals I've never tried that I'm very interested in.
I assume they are quite similar for low/med gain? What would be your recommendation for a always on out of the 2 .cheers man :-)Also is the VFE a special order?(can't see it on their site)

The Ginger is an approximate recreation of a 1965 Ampeg Portaflex 1x12 combo. I've never had the luxury of trying the real thing but I really like the vintage vibe of the pedal. Like the Blueberry, the drive section is a breaking up valve sound. I'd say the BB is slightly hotter. The BB has the one tone (Nature) knob but the Ginger has Bass and Treble knobs which makes it a bit more flexible for tone shaping. Personally I prefer the Ginger as an always-on with subtle bite, then either going to the BB for a bigger driven sound, or stacking them for a full blown valve breaking up sound. Bear in mind that I play P's with flats, so I'm after a warmer tone overall.
I just checked the VFE site and it's seems to have been updated. Peter is saying he's getting a proper job and not doing so much pedal work. And the Runoffgroove pedals aren't showing up there now. I guess you could email him and ask if he'd do a one-off job. Kits are available online if you're ok with a soldering iron.

I've also tried Alex's Ginger (although before he messed with the trimpots to lower the gain) and for me, the Blueberry is my always-on. It is very dark compared to most drives though, so if you want something with a bit more brightness on tap it might not be for you, but it has the best breakup character I've ever found in a pedal. I even use mine at low gain as my amp sim for headphone practice, it's the best thing I've found for that (and I've been through a few amp modellers and preamps with speaker sims).

Cheers guys. I've messaged VFE ,he said he has stopped making 3rd party designs now. But if he has all the components around he would be happy to make me a Ginger.I'm moderate with an iron and have looked at kit builds......might jump in the deep end?.
