Black Coffee
This is a picture of a Musicman 25th Anniversary Stingray 5 which I owned for a short time after I happened to be in the right place at the right time to avoid the £2,899.00 price tag by about a grand. It had a set of pickups like a Velociraptor had teeth and it knew how to pack a punch with a mindbending array of passive and active possibilities. We parted company because I have a young family and I think Farleys rusk, banana and baby juice would have ended messy among the hi-gloss finish and strings and pickup selector buttons. Another player is no doubt appreciating her beauty at the moment. Having said that, it was a beautiful instrument. But my other MM SR5 with piezo pickups sounds every bit as loud and hard as this 25th version did, minus the worry.
Bass-Thing
I think that would make it a bit too blingy, plus it would highlight any light scratching. I think it looks fine just the way it is.
Another problem would be finding a gold that matches! All gold hardware is different which is bloody irritating. I have to say I agree with you. I'm a bit of a black and chrome addict myself and am very partial to mirror scratchplates, but I can see that gold would be very blingy. That is a truly gorgeous bass you have there sir and I am deeply envious!
Lonnystingray
My precious.. Only 23 made in the world (in this configuration).. Officially called an ErnieBall MusicMan StingRay4 HH, in Dargie Delight limited edition. By I just call her Dargie.. Still my main bass, for anything I do, I just have to tamper her a little sometimes.. (yes, there was a so-called p0rn-carpet picture shot at a meeting I attended some time ago..) There are quite a few other brilliant and great looking rare EBMM finishes, but this one tops all of them. Love those inlays!

sshorepunk
My two! The buttercream is the bread and butter bass, has seen plenty of live action! Has a j-retro pre fitted. I sold this bass a few years back and was lucky to pick it up again when I was looking for a 'ray! The blue bass is a work in progress, looks great, just need an off white pickguard for it, really like the mutes on the bridge! Original 3 band pre, Seymour Duncan p/up (anyone got an original MM p/up? Or lane poor??) it's not finished yet, just not got round to doing the soldering Tony

sshorepunk
It got a refinish! What a nice bass, I can see it becoming my main bass once it's done!!

A mint green/white pickguard would probably look pretty cool on that. Those pickups are hard to find, need to wait for someone silly enough to replace their original with a third party PU and sell the original. From what I've heard the Nordstrand are also fine replacements. How do you like the East preamp compared to the original 3 band? I'm thinking of putting a MMSR 4 knob 3 band into one of my HH 'Rays. I'm also contemplating of putting a MMSR 3 know 3 band into one of my Sabres. But I wonder whether it would really make that much of a difference. Rumple
I've avoided looking on this thread for years because I knew what would happen - GAS. I now want a Sterling
drTStingray
I thought I'd post a few pics of my EBMM Classic 2 band 4 string Ray with a crazily figured birds eyed maple neck. It sounds as nice as it looks as well - Nirvana for me - instant Average White Band Shine album or Bernard Edwards! The bass was one of the first, if not the first Classic Stingray customer order (as opposed to dealer orders) from the UK - it's arrival was delayed by volcanic ash - it finally arrived in June 2010 and has been my number 1 ever since. Hope you enjoy.

LiamPodmore
I second that. I'm hoping to get a Stingray 5, with maple board, heading my way within the next 12 months, then i'll be sorted. stingrayPete1977
I f***ing love Teal! My first Ray was a Teal SR4 with a maple board 10 years ago, as I only really play my fives these days it got swapped on here for the black SR5 which is a great bass and my go to for everything. I'd love an early Teal SR5

ben604
Do you guys think it's possible to get a Ray35 scratchplate made for a Ray34? Does anyone make custom scratchplates on here?! I've just bought a Sterling SUB Ray4, which looks ace, but I much prefer the Ray5 scratchplate... Edited August 17, 2012 by ben604
