I'm a drummer composer not looking to join an existing band but to co-form a new post-jazz based group as a side project that will ostensibly be a fusion based acoustic symphonic / chamber music ensemble with double bass and strings. ,

In truth, I'm not at all sure what post-jazz is (Bilbo, can you help?) but this is probably not ... erm ... me.

I'm told that WH Smith stock a fair few jazz mags, you could start your research there?

If anyone wants to borrow mine, they're in a bin liner under a hedge somewhere in Kent.

There's a joke in there about diligently trimming back a bush, but that would be far too smutty. :o

'Post- Jazz' is one of those meaningless terms that probably indicates a lack of clarity and what it is not more than anything. I would expect this to be jazzy sounding but not swinging, complex harmonies but not that heavy on improvisation. Fact is, you need more detail like what kind of music is he refering to when he uses the term!

Post-rock and post-hardcore both tend to have a lot of elements of rock and hardcore but also have a lot of ambient and progressive elements - Cave In, Isis and Devil Sold His Soul are the first bands that jump to mind in those genres, though there are probably better examples - so maybe jazz structures with some progressive rock / fusion elements and string players in this case?

As has been said above "post-" is a fairly meaningless and broad term that can apply to more or less anything.
