I made a couple of enquiries on a bass from the states , and boy do they want to do a deal, they will reduce the declared value fro vat and duty etc , but they are in the realms of pestering , I am not a tyre kicker and I respect the fact that they are asking for a sale , but I am not keen on the tactics and the duplicitous paperwork .

Trying not to sound obvious, but are you on Ebay.com or Ebay.co.uk in the address bar? If you are on the UK site it will always give UK listings first followed up by international (or US) listings. You can further filter on the left as previously said.

Definitely ebay.co.uk.

It's far worse if you search 'precision' or 'jazz', because you get hundreds of ads from the US, and in particular 'The Stratosphere' site, who seem to specialise in dismantling brand new basses, and flogging the necks and bodies separately, some bodies are even fully-loaded, and these aren't just Squiers and MIM's, they also include American Standards, Specials, Vintage USA RI's, USA Deluxe, Roadworns, etc. and looking through their guitar section, they even dismantle 'custom shop' strat's and tele's.

Here's the link for those who have never seen it before.

There's a couple of Americans listing nice straps at the moment - very reasonably priced too - I'd prefer to give my money to somebody in the UK though..

Trouble is when it arrives in the UK there will be additional duty to pay, plus a £13 fee to parcelfarce for paying the VAT on your behalf. So the deal can often not be quite so sweet.

Yeah!
I just bought a Mighty Mite neck from the states, it cost me £68.13 + £30.88 pp, and then got a bill for duty of £32.
So all in, it cost me £130, which is a lot, when you consider I only paid around £70 + £5 pp, when I managed to find one over here not so long ago.
I have managed to get a jazz body in once 'duty free', but it seems that they hardly let anything in free now, even low-cost items like strings.

There you go. I bought a new MM P neck from a UK guy on the bay and IIRC it was £95 all in.

yeah I used to do searches for charvel and kramer bass's and got lots of USA hits I usually use the UK filter now, i get fed up of collect in person ad's too especially as its usually something I would like.

There is a beautiful charvel custom shop bass on ebay it's over £2000 though but if like me yo like that sort of thing it is awesome, it is a yellow /orange tiger stripe similar ida to george Lynch guitar paint jobs

I ordered a reproduction SG Junior scratchplate from the US many years ago. It didn't turn up and after much phone wrangling it turned out to be on hold at Glasgow HMRC waiting for £18 duty; which was exactly the same price as the plate cost. I told them to send it back, as was my right, as I wasn't paying it. The coughing and spluttering at the HMRC was excellent! They hadn't expected that, "Do you realise how much trouble that will put us too?" they asked.
JayDee cut me a custom one out of a sheet of vintage US scratchplate he had.

Bluebass?

I've used him before, and I contacted him first, but he didn't have any at the time?

ebay=pita

every time i log in despite it knowing my details and location it keeps showing everything in dollars and all items in the states above local items

havent used it in 18 months now so methinks now is probs a good time to delete the account - im guessing many of the ebay shops prob have parallel amazon shop accounts too

The very same. He had about 4 when I got mine, but I just had a look and he's got nothing at the mo. I think he gets them in batches and they don't hang around long. You can see a bit of it in The Greeks sig above!

That's not really eBay's fault though, eh?
Actually it may be. Ebay have messed around with the search function a lot. Particularly if you leave it on Best Match, you'll get what eBay wants you to see, which will be predominantly Power Sellers, and a lot of those are in the US. I mind the US sellers less than all the China and Hong Kong ones. As you can see from the TV adverts, eBay now see themselves as a global on-line version of Debenhams.
