This is now the third - yes the THIRD thread about this car crash of a relic job. So Warwick have definitely got us talking about them. Job done? They sure as flip can't be selling any unless Stevie still dabbles...

not sure how this comes within the realm of 'no publicity is bad publicity' - that may work for max clifford and royals who want to flash their private parts to the world, but this is retail - people may be talking about it yes, but the general consensus is that it looks like something the cat sicked up rather than something you would want to go and swap hard earned beer tokens for :D

I can't make any sense of wanting to buy anything that has been artificially damaged, but each to their own. But why stop at guitars? I wonder why the craze hasn't spread to things like cars? I'd have thought a beat-up relic'd look on a Land or Range Rover would add to the machismo for such vehicles - much better than spray-on mud, surely?

It's what Robert Trujillo requested... so, I guess, it's what Robert Trujillo got.
FWIW Warwick do some incredible finishes.

this is what I think. Robert asked for and got it. Job done. If you look at the Custom Shop gallery there are some astoundingly beautiful "classic" Warwicks. My main issue with Warwick is the price and resale value.

f***ing vile isn't it. But then so are black Fender Precisions with tort plates and rosewood boards.
Are you serious? I love a black Precision with a rosewood board and a tort plate! It's a classic colour scheme! Check out Roger Glover at the Royal Albert Hall with Deep Purple in 1969 doing that orchestral thing, or George Murray with David Bowie back in the 70s', both sporting P basses with this livery. I am genuinely surprised that you could find this so offensive , but it just goes to show how tastes can differ. One thing about looking on Basschat is that I am constantly surprised by some of the colour schemes and designs that people find attractive. Usually the more hideous it seems to me, the more people will drool over it in the For Sale section .

On the subject of this Warwick, I think they have gone for a kind of studied ugliness that actually works quite well in a funny kind of way. Especially if you are a millionaire who gets most if his basses for free like Robert Trujillo. What I worry about is the poor saps who are now saving up to buy one of these things to be like their hero. I daren't even think what one of these might cost.

This whole relicing thing has gotten a bit out of hand, in my opinion. The whole concept of paying more for something because it's got a kind of faux-knackered appearence goes against the grain with me. It's so fake that I can't think of anything less rock and roll, to be honest with you. Whoever buys a reliced instrument should be made to justify the extra expence to their mum, wife or girlfriend. Where will it all end? Will I end up going to Comet and buying a fridge that looks like it 's been used in a student house since 1974?( Both vintage and relic there .) A reliced toilet would actually be quite a good idea- you could get away with not cleaning it very often.

In some people's cases, all three  (though not mine honest...)

Couldn't agree more tho! Relic it yerself over years of gigging! Don't pay extra for the priveledge of some Herbert knocking seven bells out of it with a bunch of belt buckles. Absurd.

It's pretty horrid, probably marginally worse than the rusted look Warwick custom shops with rusted body and hardware (see link below)

What's wrong with natural or a gloss finish Warwick's - such lovely basses. I don't really like the 'faked' look full stop.
You mean like mine http://www.warwick.d...te&page=4&cl=EN rather boring by comparison. :(
I think the rusted look is a glorious finish. Ah well, horses for courses, 'n' all that.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Gangrene!

In its defence I would say it is more of a look over any real attempt at a relic'ed-type look. But it's not really my thing.

EDIT I'd be interested to know where the supposed '3 band EQ' is accessible from. it's only got one knob!
