I quite like them - here's one in action: -

I was quite surprised to find out the headless bass was another Fender first (not Leo though): -

Understand why it never made it to production!

Away with you, naysayers! Burning basses? It's a sin! This is possibly the nicest looking Fender bass of all time. I'm pretty far from being rich enough to even consider it though :)

Not sure about that. I believe Norman Houlder from the Hayman/Shergold factory was experimenting with headless designs in the 70's as well. One of his employees, a young Rob Green.

Keith Richards - Expo 92!! I videoed this and watched it when I got in from the pub. My main memory is watching him do a great version of Freddie King's 'Going Down'. I was also rather taken by the bass and was pausing it to try and see what the bass was - pre-internet remember! I eventually saw that it was a Fender and decided that I wanted one. Needless to say it didn't happen

Interesting. Don't know much about the early days of Status - would love to see some pics of any early prototypes.

Not sure about only two being made, there's a pic or two of these in an old book I have, pretty sure its that fish looking grey burst West Indian beach finish. Pretty sure there's 1 and 2 pup options too. This one looks pale and the one with Keef is a redder colour, so there's three.

I'll have a look at the book when I can .
