I think 'Cats', in the jazz fraternity, refers to hardcore jazzers who can do it, as opposed to those on the periphery of the jazz scene who are not there yet. So, say Jasper Hollby could be a 'Cat' but I wouldn't be as I am not in that league.

Does that mean your a kitten ?

A 'Bass' Drum generally refers to the largest drum in an orchestra.
True, but it's VERY rare to be in an orchestra that has percussion including said 'bass' drum AND a drum kit, so it's very rare that such a distinction is needed...

Personally, I think you're right though. The drum on a kit should be referred to as a 'kick' drum. Also makes things easier when you're labelling up the PA and/or recording desk because you can have 'bass' and 'kick'...

To conclude. Drummers are idiots! :)

Cat is coming up rather a lot. It seems like a pretentous name to me, and a very good point, if you're not a cat does that make you a kitten? And if you go beyond cat would that make you a Thundercat?

'The tone'

I find the word tone infuriating....
For example : 'I really found my tone with these new strings'

kill me now..

growl
bark
bite
any other similar meaningless adjective.
Yep, 'tone' boils my piss to. Like its the be all and end all. It's not and no one notices so please just crack on with playing!

However! I do use growl, I have to admit. :D

Strike two...

Shouldn't it be strike four? I thought drummers can only cope if its in four :P
Yeah, and I don't think you should spread your strikes over different members, Dad (fnarr).
I've got one strike, so skej should have one strike only. Isn't that fair..?

Bass drum instead of kick. A small thing but can be so confusing in the studio if your drummer is lazy with his vocabulary and just says 'bass'.
