1. From the online Serial no. checker sites on the interwebs, I believe it's Korean.. The thing's stood me in good stead and I absolutely love it, nice few dings, warm sound and so on
2. Alright guys I've had a '91 Squier Jazz for a few years now, serial no. S 91 4461 I was just wondering what you folks make of that era of Squier?
3. Sounds good but I'd invert the Amin to an A/C!
4. Ehh, probably only the guitarist of the metal band. Other than that, I very much doubt it, predominantly because I tend to meet people through the band.
5. I'm perfectly happy to lend my gear out, I'll even allow people to adjust the tone a little if they really need - I don't expect a reggae bass player to try and play his set with my ultra-toppy high-gain tone. I've even lent out my bass once. I did know the guy, and there were mitigating circumstances - it was his only bass and it got wrecked on the way to the venue. I couldn't afford to replace my rig if it blew, though. Hence I keep a very close eye people using it, and take care to point out the big switch labelled 'active/passive'..
6. Because I've got my Marshall combo is a bit on the heavy side and I don't drive, I can't always use it as often as I'd like.. I am looking for a way to disassemble it and have the head unit from the cab unit, although I think I'll have to take a saw to it.. Interesting enough. I don't mind using house rigs/other peoples gear, as long as I can hear myself and get a half-decent tone I'm not that fussy.
7. I don't know about excel at both, but a player can sure as hell be crap at both!
8. I'm frustrated as a bass player because my playing consistently underwhelms me - and it's not just about fingerboard pyrotechnics either, something as simple as laying down the groove in "Play That Funky Music White Boy" can totally escape me sometimes. I'd love to be more fluent with sightreading and theory, especially the Major modes (I've learnt the patterns, but what the f*** do I DO with them?!).
9. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 1 post to view.
10. Very good, very informative.. +1 to the light-sounding P bass comments, and given the reverb on the slap bass segment I think a bit of processing has gone on here..
11. Did two 45 minute sets at The Wharf in Macclesfield.. Trainwreck recovery 101! Dropped some pretty big clangers, I remember in an original tune we had to skip an entire bridge o.0 We were using in-ear monitors (for a pub gig?) and the guitarist was using a wireless, so as you can imagine the guitar wireless packed in, something went wrong with the in-ears and I could only get the stereo-right, no left channel. Vocals kept coming in and out.. Nightmare. I've never laughed so much in all my life! The crowd seemed to receive us really well though, so you can't argue with that I suppose.
12. It honestly really amuses me - a local band has just got back from a US tour, 60 gigs in 60 days.. This article is making it sound like the live music industry is on its arse.
13. 14. Bcer from Cheshire reporting! I'm up for that! I'm spending a lot of time in studio/gigs over the rest of the year so it'll defo get used
15. I got the EHX Bassballs last month, which is a twin-band enveolpe filter. With the distortion off, it's a really subtle effect, but with the distortion on you can get some really wacky sounds. The response pot effectively controls what kind of frequency range is affected by the effect unit, you can even control the frequency response and other e characteristics by changing the velocity of the signal, i.e. not hitting the strings as hard or what have you. At about £50 give or take it's cheap, and I think it's incredibly versatile, sounds good!

My early 90's Squier Jazz, scratchplate is new(ish), apart from that all original as far as I know!
17. It's moments like this that a solid knowledge of theory can come into its' own - if you know what the bassline is doing, you can interpret and extrapolate a chord sequence from that, and everything else will follow. Like ha been said, experiment, that's what I do
18. Started recording bass tonight, tone was good but playing was sloppy. Need to do some serious metronome practice, tonight's escapade was unacceptable and plain embarrassing. Unhappy bunny.
19.
Well the reason I don't burgle peoples houses and park on yellow lines is because I wouldn't want other people doing it to me. The reason why we have a law is because, as you say, not everyone has a decent moral compass. I would still hope if someone finds a wallet full of money thy return it intact and don't just pocket the money and say they found it like that.
Precisely my point - the social contract has been long established that it's not something that you should do, and laws have been introduced so as to reflect and reinforce that. This is in opposition to the idea that laws are introduced in order to create a specific social contract or behaviour, although I suppose you could argue against that idea with the concept of speeding and drink-driving.
20. I had a wonderful experience in Northwich Music Centre (and always do) yesterday, went in to kill half an hour, ended up jamming on a Modern Player Jazz for the best part of 2 hours. The guy is brilliant, he even let me have a furkle with a couple of compressor pedals (I'm thinking of getting that Ashdown one, sounds well nice!) Some music shops are excellent, with staff that understand that to really get an idea of whether or not you DO want a particular instrument you have to spend some time with it and push it around.
21.
Fixed it for you, otherwise you wouldn't raise an eyebrow if you were broken into & robbed; mugged, or whatever else.
I disagree, simply because everyone picks and chooses the laws they want to follow, right down to the little ones like parking on double yellow lines, or using a zebra crossing properly, or speed limits. It's down to the individual to adhere to the law of the land, consternation on the part of any on-lookers may be enough to put the individual off, but that doesn't mean the individual wasn't going to do it under a different set of circumstances. Like someone has said before, the only reason the general populace don't burgle each other's houses is because it's been socially unacceptable to do so for hundreds of years. Interesting to think whether that's society dictating legislation, or legislation dictating society, a fabricated social contract, if you will. Similarly (and back on topic) with musicians, particularly ones about my age and younger, alcohol/nicotine/cannabis use and abuse is so prevalent (certainly in my area) that those who choose to follow legislated prescribed rules (not drinking under 18, not smoking under 16 etc.) are actively and publicly ridiculed - it's become socially unacceptable to abide by the law. As for the OP.. Well. The media make substance abuse and addiction amongst musicians a glamorous thing, something to admire artists for. People who have survived their problems have a certain kudos (Ozzy Osbourne, Nikki Sixx, Duff McKagan) attached to their names, as do those who have succumbed. I like to think that the number of 'straight-edge' people is higher than those with major issues. But who knows? You could never do a survey of every musician on the planet, and most of them could/would simply lie anyway.
22.
Has yours got flames on it, like mine has?
Certainly does Pretty nifty, I like it!
23. I got a mini clock in the shape of an EB-0, complete with stand! And a new guitar stand (my dad hates seeing my bass leaning against stuff).. After that not much bass-related.
