I'm not convinced it is a '69 but he doesn't say the last two digits of the serial number. He says the last two digits of the date stamp on the base of the neck which would indicate year of neck manufacture - although the last two 'digits' would actually be the last number of the year and the letter for the neck width.

He's very vague about it's location you could actually read it a couple of different ways.

Yes, according to 'The Fender Bass Book' the decal on this '69 bass' first appeared in 1995, the serial number will be on the back of the headstock.
In the second big photo - the one of the back of the bass - what are the wiggly lines running roughly from top right to bottom left? They look a bit like paint runs, or is it just the grain coming through?
My monitor's a bit stuffed at the moment, but if we're seeing the same thing (sort of light-to-dark 'steps') then it's what's known as 'colour banding'. It's just a by-product of over-compressing an image, usually as a result of decreasing the colour depth - GIFs are common culprits, but pretty much all formats can suffer from it. Just poor image choice, nothing in the paint job.

Ah ok. Yep, that's probably it. Thanks for explaining!

I sent him an Email, pointing him in the direction of the Guitar Data project, but asked him to provide me with the serial No before I would bid - strangely had no contact yet - however if this is a shop I might hear from him tomorrow..

I'll keep everyone apprised..
