1. Beautiful, I have one exactly the same but with the rosewood board. For info, John East makes a version of his J-Retro fitted to a drop in control plate, as it is a slightly different shape. Shame you have to sell it!
2.
I'd still have a black one
I still have one too. Don't know where it is now, haven't played it in years. Off to look for it now to see if it's £1,500 worth of shoddy clankyness that I should never have bought. Steve
3. We are lucky enough to have our own studio so we have a permanent setup there of amps, cabs, drums and PA and it's very rare that any of that stuff ever moves. We bring along new gear to try all the time and occasionally rent a space where we can set up the whole gigging setup.
4. I had a beautiful blue 2eq Stingray. I sold it 2007 to Homerplaysbass who I think sold it to Jojobass and then from there who knows. I would have it back in an instant.
5. Distorted? Mine certainly isn't. Set all the controls at zero apart from the VLE and VPF - turn these fully anti-clockwise. Set the master low, and bring the gain up until the blue light flashes, then back it off a bit. That's your starting point. Make minor adjustments from there. Are you using an active bass or any pedals? cheers Steve
6. Pub music/beer festivals seem to be all the rage now, often for 'charity'. Band play free, the charity gets a donation of coppers chucked in a bucket and the pub sells more beer in two days than two months. Bands should at least be offered a fee. If you choose, then you can donate that to the charity... How long do they want you to play? Divide up your normal fee according to the set length.
7.
TBH the vast majority of people who claim to want a Rickenbacker bass don't want anything of the sort. What they want is something that sounds and feels like a Fender P or J with the Rickenbacker shape holographically projected over the top.
Guilty 100%. I hardly play it nowadays but I love how it looks.
8. Thanks for the Audio Technica tip - just bought a pair on Amazon for £95!
9. I'm sure there must be more - it's just people can't tell from the thread title what it's about. I'm an optimist!
10. Has anyone else here ordered one or it is just sk8 and myself so far? Steve
11. I believe these are genuine Hiscox cases, just Bass centre branded. Steve
12. I'd back the volume right down, if you can get your drummer to play ball. It's amazing the detail you can hear when you're all quieter. Be prepared for the "I've got a valve amp, it's no good at low volumes...." argument, however... Steve
13. Bought Etienne’s VT Bass DI –a really nice chap to do business with and it arrived it mega fast time. 14. That sounds good, what's the Amazon system?
15. I use a Tascam MP-BT1. the most useful bit of practise kit I own. Think it has been superseded by a newer model though now. Steve
16.
I just don't understand it. Ampeg come out with massively unreliable Class D amps and people defend them to the hilt. Ashdown come out with new technology and everybody uses this as a chance to get the boot in. If British bassists defended British manufacturers the same way American bassists defended theirs then this forum would be a slightly more positive place perhaps. Not sure we need pages of Ashdown bashing, and I'm glad to see a rep coming on here and kicking some backsides.
It's a forum on the Internet. That's what happens. If you have read the pages on this thread you'll see that actually it's a reasonable balance of opinions. My opinion I still believe is valid in that I'm a potential customer and I can't see that, even though in itself it's an interesting package, that it's worth me spending £600. Others have disagreed. Not everyone is 'Ashdown bashing' not did I see any backsides being kicked to be honest.
17.
The VT DI is only £158 with free delivery on Thomann at the mo.
Got to be just a bit careful with Thomann prices. They don't bill you in GBP but in Euro, and the GBP price shown is indicative only. Once you factor in your banks exchange rate and the currency conversion fee it can mean a difference of around £10-12 on a £200 purchase. They're still good prices (especially now given the current Euro rate) but don't rely on their GBP conversions.

19. In addition, on the earlier models the tiny buttons with the lights inside them had a tendency to crack. TC will send you these too FOC and they're pretty simple to replace.
20. I've ordered one too - green burst. I already have a Chinese-made Coronado and am very impressed with the build quality so I'm expecting good things with this. I've no experience with this particular brand (as he's new), but I was taken with the specification for the price point, the looks and also the effort that's gone in to getting this far! 5-6 weeks for delivery of the first batch for those of us signing up now. Steve
21. Also I load mine in with the handle pointing up and the knobs facing the inner sleeve that the footswitch fits in.
22. Jennie, send a quick email to TC support. They have some new redesigned ones that fit better and are more solid. They'll send you some for free and theyll arrive in double time in my experience. Steve
23.
I don't want to say but the top three are long standing USA companies.
Is it a secret? I'd be interested to know who the top three are......
24. Interesting turn this thread has taken. Wonder if it will work with other IPhone apps like Bias/Jam Up, Amplitube etc? Can't see why it wouldn't....
25. Have I missed something on this thread or is my browser playing up? Ashdown offered to make you cab three months ago and you waited until now to order one from GAK? I'd be surprised if their offer still stands. Steve
