1. There's a lot of stuff sitting in a warehouse in Cologne waiting to come to the UK it seems. Im very interested in reading people's review on this as I'm a recent convert to clip on tuners.
  2. I should do a proper comparison at some point but weight wise, the Coronado is 9lb 10oz, the Chowny is 7lb 8oz. Chowny is 22 frets vs 21 on the Fender but feels a smaller guitar, maybe because of the weight and the headstock size. Fender has a bolt on neck and the Chowny's is set. The Chowny has a floating bridge and there's less adjustment possible than on the Fender but I can get it to exactly how I want it so it's not an issue. In terms of control, there's a wider range of sounds possible from the Chowny and the volume controls are wired independently unlike the Fender which is wired like a Les Paul.
  3.
There's only one thing I have found that isn't a deal breaker at all - it's just a trade off. The receiver is so small and light (big plus) that actually when I use a long lead plugged in to it, the lead is heavy enough to pull it off the amp top! heh! No problem, I looped the cable either under the amp or through the cabinet top mounted handle. Easy! I will get an adaptor eventually to strap mount the transmitter, simply because the back end of my bass *is* a bit of an odd shape. All in all, very little to fault for a plug-and-play system.
Same here - I ended up using a patch lead to connect the receiver to the amp input instead to keep the lead short. As I said before, I did create my own 'bodypack' lead as I didn't have a patch lead of a suitable length and as I was making a lead from scratch I may as well add on a female 1/4" plug instead. I have been very impressed with performance so far, I'm a fan. steve
  4.
Baited breath. I will call them and ask for refund
What are you going to say? "Please give me my money back because I expected the delivery sooner?" Not sure you'll get a refund until you get the bass and process it as a return. As far as I recall delivery timeframes are merely an indication, that's why they provide very detailed tracking information. I can understand if you took a day off it was scheduled as out for delivery, but other than that, I think you're just impatient.
  5. I've switched to these from DR Sunbeams as they were getting just too pricey. it took me a bit to get used to the feel of the BTs but I really really like them now. I'm also using BTs on six string.
  6.
I went with my Dell XPS 'cos I can't abide the floppy plastic tat that most other PC laptops seem to consist of. It's solid and well-built, but.. it's just flaky. And that's a shame :-(
I've rebuilt mine three times already. It's a lovely looking thing but I too have had so many issues with it. At the time I think they took lots of good stuff and bunged it in a case without thinking of compatibility. My HP, whilst ugly, is bulletproof.
  7. I've had some atrocious basses made in America but we don't seem to tar them with the same brush. You should try one of these if you can and see what you think. The fit and finish are certainly not poor, in fact quite the opposite!
  8.
I liking the idea of carefully heating the saddle/screw to help dissolve the glue. I've got some old bridge saddles like that which won't budge. I'll give it a very careful try.
Low heat, long nosed pliers and undo the screw if you can whilst held over the heat. Works a treat.
  9.
Another reason to get a soldering iron.......safer than a gas stove.
In my defence I did try the soldering iron first, but it didn't heat the whole saddle enough to melt all the glue in the screw threads.
  10.
This finish would get my vote! A quality, versatile-sounding, great-looking at this price seems too good to be true. Not mad about it being made in China - still mighty tempting though.
What's your issue with this being made in China? steve
  11.
I'm waiting for my Roqsolid NY121 cover to arrive any day now.... As the CMD121P and the NY121 are the same size, won't the cover for one fit both? Apart from the different handle I guess?
Yes they're the same size but the published Markbass sizes for both the combo and the cab are wrong. Initially when I used the covers they were too tall and bunched up on the floor. I supplied Bryn and the Roqsolid team the correct sizes and they modified the cover as a result. Both now fit perfectly. They did say they would record this against their cover so that subsequent customers were ok. You are correct in that the covered themselves differ in the handle cutout.
  12. Whilst the gigrig is great I think as power supply for two basic pedals it's a bit over the top. Even if you add in a couple more pedals (tuner, chorus etc) you're still in regular power supply territory.
  13. I rate these http://www.diago.co.uk/pedal-power/diago-powerstation.html
  14. I got mine - the CMD121P and the NY121 covers made by Roqsolid. Fantastic covers in my opinion but I did give them the dimensions especially so I knew it would fit. They had earlier supplied one cover using the Markbass published website sizes and these were incorrect so I had to send it back for modifications.
  15. There's a 3.5mm headphone out?
  16. I knocked up a cable from some bits I had around. 750mm with Neutrik male plug and female connector. Does the job. 17.
Mine just landed on my desk. I'll be trying it out at rehearsal tonight ...
I'm very impressed with mine. I set the cable emulator to 20ft as that sound best to my ears. steve
  18.
Absolute best way is with something like a Halifax Clarity Card. It's designed for foreign currency transactions. No commission, no fees, best exchange rate going. Pay it off at the end of the month and you pay nothing extra at all.
This is a MasterCard and the exchange rate applied to the transaction is their rate which may or may not be the best at the time. Compared to Visa the difference on a day by day basis is negligible. Any MasterCard or Visa bank card that doesn't charge a fee is therefore better than one that does, but unless there's an added value 'service' from the bank, then, for any given transaction on the same day they should all be the same.
  19. Both parts just pull off. Pull the outer knob and the inner button comes off too. When it's off you'll see that the outer is a hollow ring and the inner is a disc attached to a plastic 'plunger' that locates on to the shaft of the switch. When you refit, you attach the outer, tighten the grub screw and then the inner just pushes in to place.
  20. Just check the charging and rates and use whichever works out cheapest for you. Thomann will invoice you in Euro - the GBP figures on their website are for illustration and sometimes use a suspect exchange rate so don't rely on these. I use this link to enter the Euro value and the conversion % my bank charges to determine how much it will actually cost me. 21.
My Dingwall AB1 with it's sexy curves does mean that it suffers in the same way as the Jazz pictured where there is little surface for the bug to attach to. I'll probably try the adapter approach too.
Yup the angled design which is obviously necessary to fit in to strats and other recessed sockets means that it doesn't sit flat on the body of the Jazz. I was always intending to go down the bodypack route anyway, so it's not a big problem for me.
  22. That's an excellent price! These really are great guitars. I just sold my butterscotch one last week but if it looked like this I probably wouldn't have done! steve
  23. Here's a few different socket types 1. Jazz bass - standard flush front socket 2. Coronado - flush edge socket 3. Telecaster - recessed edge socket 4. Stratocaster - recessed front socket Two additional photos showing transmitter next to a iPhone 4 (cos I had one lying around)
