Ok probably best just to call a halt to this now and wait until we can try it. Then we can offer informed opinions on whether a. it's any good and b. it's worth the current retail price. If Ashdown haven't given up reading this then I'm more than prepared to go to Chelmsford and try this out and I'll even bring £600 in cash to show I'm serious! Steve
It seems a shame that we get topics like this. Posted negatively from the start. Claiming it's not worth the asking price without any experience of the product is a poor viewpoint.
I was not claiming anything. I was stating MY opinion (it is an internet forum after all) that I think it is expensive for the advertised features. Other have disagreed, that's their opinion and the world is a wonderful place for it. It's a newly released product and attracted my interest. I wish Ashdown no ill feeling at all and I hope it is a success. I am more than happy to be proven wrong - maybe it will go on to be a defining product, who knows.
I work in the HiFi industry where there has been a move to sort of parallel type product.
I work for a car manufacturer. In this industry people spend tens of thousands on products they have never tried but that they have an opinion on. Others refuse to go anywhere near a product, again, based solely on an opinion. I would never say that theirs is a poor viewpoint. As a forum moderator, please feel free to let me know in future which of my 'viewpoints' are poor and I will adjust them to comply. Steve
Cannot quite believe peoples fury Sorry but when you have been building bass amps for 34 years and spent 2 years on developing a truly groundbreaking product to then read some of these ill informed comments is quite upsetting. Especially when none of you have actually seen, used or heard the product...
This is true, I've not seen or heard the product. What I have seen is the marketing and the proposed price, which was all that was available, so as a business, if no customer has actually seen, used or heard the product, then you are relying on the marketing to promote it. As a prospective customer, who actually likes Ashdown amps and cabs, I am stating that at this price point it is not attractive to me. I was drawn to the product because of the concept but I cannot justify in my own mind spending that amount of money on something like this. You can have a go at me not understanding the the quality of the the technology or the effort you've put in to the development if you like but at the end of the day, I have the money in my pocket and you have to convince me to give it to you. I hope that, given the obviously huge investment you've made, that this is a success and I am more than prepared to be proved wrong. But again, as a prospective customer I am not tempted to seek one out to try and really this is what you want us to do. And for the record, there was never an intention for this to an Ashdown bashing thread; it was a discussion of whether the 'market' considered this product to be worth the retail price attached to it. I've nothing against Ashdown and have been very happy with Evo heads and old ABM cabs in the past, but this just seems to be trying to be too many things at once and comes with a terribly unrealistic price tag. I'd give it a go for £200 but not for £600. How did they decide that this was the ideal price point....?
-
Within 12 months this'll end up being heavily reduced or discontinued.....

I don't get it. http://ashdownmusic.com/products/1/Bass-Amplification/21/BSOCIAL/131/BSOCIAL75W/ Am I missing something here? What makes this worth selling at £600? That's a lot of money for a boombox....
-
That's shocking. You got me worried so I checked inside my BG250 combo. Happy to report that theres some damping in there. It's the same white 'fluffy' stuff that's also inside my Markbass combo so I assume it's ok. Next step, check the RS cabs......
-
Great choice. I use one too with the NY cab. Check out the threads on here about simple tweeter mods if you find it too hissy. Steve
-
Change from titanium to ceramic horns too....
-
How different are these to the RS range? Apart from the obvious fashionable exterior? Steve

Good review, thanks! TweeterTone is a bit more than just a tweeter control - it's on the RH heads too and does't have to be paired with a tweeter-fitted cab. . I don't have it on my BG250 and I wish I did. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kjw69bz1XUY cheers Steve

This is Chinese. I've been over it with a fine tooth comb hoping to find some QC issues. No dodgy output jack (my CIJ 51 Reissue), no rough sharp frets (my Am. Precision), no binding coming unstuck (my Am. Ricky 4003), smooth tuners, perfect fitting neck, great sound, great looks, Mexican price. Works for me.

Fender '54 Reissue Precision Bass - Blue Flower (2003) Crafted in Japan Original Precision headstock shape 7.25" radius maple neck 1.750" width at nut 20 vintage style frets 34" scale Vintage style reverse tuners Vintage single coil Precision bass pickup Original two saddle style 51 Precision bass bridge weight is about 8.5lbs. This hasn't been modified at all apart from a replacement jack socket and is in very good condition other than a ding near the jack socket. This was purchased from Warwickhunt of this parish about 18 months or so ago. Comes in old but functioning hard case (choice of two). Currently strung with DR Sunbeams but can replace with flats. Many more pictures available. A bargain given what the last one was on here for. Collection from Cambridgeshire or can deliver to Bedford/Milton Keynes. Happy to post if required but we'll need to discuss the cost for that separately. Or will consider a good *cough* Strat *cough* -
Excellent on its own and will stand up to an unmiked drummer easily. Adding the NY 121 makes it brilliant and portable. I did disconnect the tweeter immediately. The extension cab has a tweeter too but this can be turned off.

As I mentioned in another thread, I had mine converted but it was a later model and was straight forward to convert. Still cost me £70 odd at a Ampeg repair centre. Steve
-
Slightly O/T but I bought a U.S. 4 PRO a few years back and had it converted from 110v by Panic Music (since ceased trading) near me. There are two different models and if it is the more recent version then the conversion is very simple and cheap to do. ...and I used mine with a 610HLF. I miss it all the time but my back doesn't and I don't have to keep buying estate cars..

Disabling or replacing piezo tweeter in MarkBass CMD121P combo?
Muppet replied to mcnach's topic in Amps and Cabs
Yeah it's really easy. Unscrew the speaker and you get access to the 'crossover' such as it is. The first set of wires are labelled 'input'. Pull the spades off the connectors and attach them to the speaker and put the wires from the speaker on to the connectors on the crossover. It isolates the tweeter and the crossover and you get the amps full output to the speaker. I was going to swap out the tweeter but really not going to bother now. Steve -
Disabling or replacing piezo tweeter in MarkBass CMD121P combo?
Muppet replied to mcnach's topic in Amps and Cabs
Apologies for dragging this up but better that than starting a new thread... What were the results of any of these modifications any update? I bought a 121P and rather that disconnecting the tweeter I took it and the 'crossover' out of play completely by connecting the speaker lead that comes from the amp output directly to the speaker. Sounds great to my ears and no need to consider a replacement tweeter. And completely reversible. Steve -
