1.
I had mine replaced by a Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder-my local shop did it, so I don't know how it was done, but the pot was replaced as well. I had to get new knobs, as I was left with a volume knob with a hole in it where the S-1 button used to go.
I replaced mine with a Q/P and I kept the S1 switch, no problem, no need to replace the pot. Adee, i need to have a look inside my current Precision as I wrote down the details a while ago and can't find them. Bear with me. It's not that complicated. I'll get round to it tonight for you. Steve
2. I've replaced quite a few pickups in Precisions with S1 switches. How many wires does your Lindy Fralin have?
3. OldGit helped me loads in setting up our website and I started with zero knowledge. We're pretty close to top if not the top of Google rankings for covers bands in our area and get more business from it than we can handle. Check out Si's thread first off - I tried to follow it pretty much to the letter and then Si 'audited' it for me. It's still not perfect but does the job for us. Ours is here. MySpace is a good backup too, so we have both.
4.
Hello there, I grew up in lincolnshire and my parents still live there so I go back during holidays and what not. What a dull place it can be.
I also grew up there, but you should try it out now. Lincoln itself is rapidly turning in to a very lively city (as a result of the University mainly) and I enjoy going back. Do you play pubs in the city Mzungu71 and if so which ones? Steve
5. I have short arms and stubby fingers! I found the thumb in the back of the neck was actually easier in the long run but you do have to be a little more precise with finger placement. I play precisions and have had a Stingray in the past and prefer wide necks in general. I have found three things of help. The first is to get the guitar at the right position for you, not too high up under your chin and not too low so that it's swinging round your knees. The best position will feel comfortable for both hands. The second is to ensure the guitar is set up properly. This ensures your fretting hand is not working harder than it needs to in fretting the strings. The third is as has been said, perhaps try a 1,2,4 finger combination for starters.
6. I'm with MuseMatt in using the pick for this song. When I play this song I use a combination of wrist and finger movement as it give me the best amount of control. I try to anchor my forearm in one position and use my thumb and forefinger to move the pick with some slight wrist movement, though everyone is different. Keep at it, it took me a while to learn the control required.
7. Another lefty playing right here too. Apparently left handers are more creative (as well as more intelligent, handsome, virile and just generally better) - maybe that explains the high number on here?
8. Standard are Mexican made - you can get them new here for not much more than £350 and then you'd have import duties to pay if you're unlucky. Now, if you found American Series basses at that price it might be a different matter.

Standard Akai power supply is 9v 200mA, centre negative.
10.
I would go: Tuner - Korg Pitchblack. Small and sexy, true bypass and it has a nice strobe function.
You are the man! Thanks for that - exactly what I'm after!
11. I did it once by using the onboard kit sounds and recording the stereo signal. The kit sound was OK in itself but you can't balance out the various parts of the kit so you need to make sure the levels are spot on before you record. If I did it again I'd record via MIDI definitely.
12. Nick , you playing at the Key tomorrow evening? I'm off to watch the Youth Theatre production... Steve Nick
13.
isn't peterborough near lincolnshire or in it... sorry i never took geography at school... if so that means i'm fairly close by and would love to come to the bash...
Whereabouts in Lincolnshire are you mate? The southern part is very close to Peterborough, the northern bit ain't! Nick, isn't Fosk 'Thedontcarebear' on here or am I getting our forums mixed up...
14.
Welcome! Peterborough does have some soul then!!
Whoa steady on Ped, you'll get us an undeserved reputation! Welcome Karl, the Peterborough contingent is growing slowly now...
15.
Yes, we basically did the backing music for a girl who came to write some songs with us at the studio. Each track on the iPod had drums + keys and a smallish intro so we took our cues from that. It was as simple as pressing play and playing along. I understand your situation is a bit more complex though. My friend does the same thing as you mention (drummer has click, effects etc come through pa 'on cue' so I will ask him about it and get back to you. Cheers ped
Nice one, thanks. I guess it's a drummers experience I need to tap in to..
16.
If you want to avoid that, you might want to look at a Rush-style solution: no overall click track, triggering sampled parts on the fly. Do you have access to a sampler of any sort?
no I don't think so. Got a laptop with some stuff on it (including Reason and stuff) but without a click I'd have no idea about how to get everything in time!
17. Just remembered I drew this a while ago. Might help some people when measuring their guitars to see if it will fit. The measurements are correct for a BadAssIII only.
18.
I have done a couple of gigs where a laptop or even an iPod were used. Always worked fine actually.
Ped, how did you actually run it, live, can you remember?
19. Ah, I was planning on using mp3, is this not a good idea? What should I use instead?
20. In my band we are planning to run some recorded keys and or brass but are unsure of how exactly to do it or indeed whether we could get it right. Having no previous experience here's what I'm planning. Record the backing track at the correct tempo in mono and place on one channel of a stereo signal. Record a click at the correct tempo and put on the other channel. Somehow send one channel to the PA and the other channel to the drummer, then get the drummer to start it off. So my challenge is - what do I need for playback? A computer or a MP3 player maybe or what and does anyone have any tips for getting it right? I have visions of it all going horribly wrong and us all blaming the drummer.....
21. I use a piece of fine wet and dry paper. A great tip for preventing this happening again is to dab the pole pieces with a drop of clear nail varnish. It has no detrimental effect on the pickups and stops them rusting
22. I refer my honourable friend to my post made two above his
Just so you know, the case will also fit a Fender Jazz too.
23. Lovely bass! Chrome red - I have the matching Jazz! Just so you know, the case will also fit a Fender Jazz too.
24.
I quite like the EBS chorus but would say the deep modded Analogman chorus is the benchmark...
I blind A/B'd the two using a looper and couldn't tell the difference for the type of chorus sounds I was after, so I kept the EBS and sold the Analogman. They differed at the extremes of settings quite a lot, but the middle range was so similar that I decided to go with the smaller pedal.
