1. They're at it again - it's 2 x 500w, non bridgeable - in to 4 ohms, so not really 1,000w....!!
Right then - things have changed a bit. My bonus that I wasn't expecting has come in so I can raise my sights a bit. Line6 Bass Pod? Korg AXB3000? Boss? Going into town to have a play this morning and an eye test. What's the most versatile? Still may get a B2.1u and something else thought. Haven't decided yet.
Mate - I have a AX3000B that I can let you have a play with for a few days if you like? I'm not selling it but at the moment I'm not using it either. Can drop it off to you today or tomorrow if you fancy it. Send me a PM and let me know. Cheers Steve
4. That's great info there 99ster. I have to say, that is one if not THE one bass that I would love to own. Now, fingers crossed for tomorrow's lottery....
5. I use a piece of plastic cut from the back cover of those flexible A4 document folders. It's a perfect thickness. I cut mine the width of the neck pocket and about 1/4" deep which more or less replicates the size of a Fender factory shim.
6. If you get one for between £900 and £1000 in excellent condition with case etc then you are doing very well. Things to check for are; Twisted necks - not a common occurence but 4003s have two truss rod adjusters and some people make a right dogs dinner of them. The neck relief SHOULD be zero if it is looked after properly. Bridge pickup cover - people take them off and lose them. Case - Nothing like the original case as it is very sturdy, so don't buy without one. Binding - check that the body binding is all intact, especially at the bottom by the bridge. It can take knocks there and get split. Bridge mutes - make sure these turn well. Vintage Tone Control - as Peter says, newer models have this. A worthy mod to older ones if you like the sound. I'm not sure it affects second hand price though. This one looks great - it's even got the made in USA sticker on the pickguard still. Good luck. Steve
7.
Me old Jazz lasted warranty + 1 week, couldn't get a replacement & I got through 2 push-pull pots and a ton of solder trying to replace it, before resorting to the "throw a load of cash at it" remedy! I'll use basschat next time...
What on earth are you using it as, a hammer? Fair enough if you're going through stuff at that rate! j retro here and here
8.
S-1's stick & break - best series/parallel conversion for a Jazz? http://www.guitar-mod.com/rg_prewired.html & scroll down to the JSP. Best mod I ever did. Good luck!
The world's most expensive push pull pot! I've had S1 swtiches on three basses since they came out. None have got stuck or have broken yet.
9. His interesting drumming style was what made WAS in my opinion. I've seen them since a few times and a lot of the spark has gone as they have a more polished drummer now.
10. You're right on both counts. When we played with them in the early days Chris used a blonde 4003 through a Ampeg BA500. A year later he switched to to Gibson Thunderbirds through a CL and 410 HLF. I think this is what the album was recorded with. Effects wise he used a US Big Muff and that's it. Shame Michael left.
11. Chaps - I don't seem to be receiving these at the moment? Are they being sent or it is a problem with my ISP do you think? It's all set correctly in the profile information. Cheers Steve
12. Peterborough? Never heard of the place - where is it?

My new toy

Nice Dave!!! Didn't you have one similar a while ago (maybe not soo bright) ?
14. I use one of Tasty's cast offs for distortion - a Crowther Hotcake Bluesberry XLF, and a Fulltone Bassdrive (at 18v) for my overdrive. Great sounds from both and highly recommended
15. That's cool Dave, though take no notice of the "you're only a proper bass player if you play with your fingers" brigade. True, it's all useful, but there's no law about it so go with what feels comfortable to you I guess! Steve
16. Erm, depends on what part you consider thin/fat and what part you consider wide I guess! Width across the fretboard feels pretty much the same as my 70s Precision did. It feels thinner (from the back of the neck to the front of the fretboard) then my current 1996 Precisions. The radius of the neck seems bigger than my other Ps, giving it a flatter feel.
17. :mellow:RC23140B This an excellent pedal board with an integrated power supply with jacks and sockets for 6 9v supplies and 1 12v supply and two effects loops. The lid has a guitar stand built in that folds up as per the pictures. It's a solid board coved in velcro with butterfly catches and ball corners and rubber feet. The lid that turns in the stand is fully lined and padded to protect the guitars. External size: 74 x 44 x 19cm Usable surface for the pedals: 72 x 34cm It's quite heavy so collection is the best way forward. RRP is £160 odd, though online I'm sure they are cheaper. Yours for just a mere £70.
18. Long shot but I've just seen your thread. I was looking for a sale but....... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=13181
19. John - what cabs are you using it with and what sort of room are you playing in? Cabs and type of room play an important part in how your sound fits in a band situation. For every new amp I buy, I always start off at everything completely neutral and assess the changes of bass, midrange, and treble. I eventually find general settings I like and then it's a case of tweaking depending on venue.
