1.
edited
True! I had a Dyson that was held together with gaffer tape for a whole month until the new part turned up.
 2.
Regarding Murder One, I'm not sure my back could cope with the whole stack, although I'm always looking out for the signature Marshall amp. Again, there is one that keeps popping up in the States from time to time, but I'm sure as hell not going out to collect that. I would have to buy it a seat for the journey home!
Did they all get made & sold out? I was told at Marshall that they were made to order after Lemmy's went to him; a small stock of heads was being made right then, with the 4 x 15s waiting until they were asked for. Lemmy had wanted vintage cabs - but oops - he got new ones - relic'd.
 3. I've got a Hiwatt 200 head; when I first bought it I had a Marshall 2 x 15" cab, with original Celestions at 100w each. I saw two Fane 15" PA speakers on Ebay, bought them for a song but they were underpowered for the Hiwatt (you should be OK with a 100 so long as you have headroom on the speakers) so I switched them for two Eminence Deltas. Since then I also bought a Hiwatt 4123 cab which has 4 x Fane 12s in it.
 4. You've made a temporary repair to clothing with gaffer tape.
 5.
No one sticking up for Sid yet?
You could have worded that better.
 6. I've had a couple of set-ups done by Rod years ago when I lived in/near Edinburgh. He's a good guy who knows his stuff - obviously you'd have to ask him about his experience with Hofners. http://www.rvguitars.co.uk/index.php
 7. I've seen similar fixed; watched it once, with the hole being filled with wax crayon of a colour to match & then sealed with a tiny blob of superglue then rubbed back flush with Duraglit (Brasso wad). It's not as solid as the original finish & I wouldn't dare try it myself on anything that mattered, that's your call. I know how you feel though; my custom bass has only one small dint - it's the shape of the tip of a jack when I was careless for a couple of seconds when I unplugged once & chucked the lead too close to it.
 8.
Sorry, newbie question: what kind of cable do I use to hook up an amplifier head to a speaker cabinet?
All apart from one of my speakers cables are Klotz cable - it's excellent. The plugs I use are Neutrik. But this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Klotz-Jack-Guitar-Amp-Cab-Cabinet-Speaker-Cable-1m-/250776714649?pt=UK_MusicalInstr_Amplifiers_RL&hash=item3a6374fd99#ht_900wt_1140 is the kind of thing you're looking for; check out the guys notes in his description too - you may well find some music shop staff who will BS you that an instrument cable is fine. Maplins & Radioshack/Tandy used to sell Klotz cable off the reel & Neutriks, you shouldn't have any problem finding them Stateside. If you're handy with a soldering iron - or know someone who is - you could make your own for about half the cost of this Ebay item (no relation to this seller - I just picked it out)
 9.
OK I give up! I cant find them on the screwfix website
Bugger! You're right, must be discontinued - they've got these in an identical style but the ones I got off them years ago were much bigger; I put them on a rebuilt EB3 copy. http://www.screwfix....equestid=953588 I found this interesting though; in the context of this thread......... http://www.tdpri.com/forum/tele-home-depot/273240-do-i-need-neck-plate.html
In all honesty the standard 4 hole plate that is the same size on the OLP as it is on a Fender, isn't much smaller than the six hole on the Stingray. A friend has a pre Ernie Ball Stingray with a 3 hole plate that is actually smaller but does the job perfectly. I was hoping somebody would say 'oh you get them online from whatever.co.uk but if it is going to either be a big palaver or ridiculously expensive, I will just use the spare blank 4 hole plate I already have. Thanks folks.
That's what I wondered, why not get any decent local engineer to drill two extra holes in the plate you have? I've had a few metal parts machined up of late & they're cheaper than you'd expect, and many of them would be glad of the work in recent times.
 10. Jimmy Lea of Slade; yes - I set my sights ridiculously high.
 11.
I also own an electro acoustic guitar. I like the rhythms that seem to work when playing acoustic.
There's nowhere to hide with an acoustic. Improves technique no end.
 12.
I concur However when doing a quick search it seems everyone sells ferrules in 4's which brings the op back to square one!! A
They're pennies from Screwfix. The trick with fitting them is to use a new drill bit and have the drill (preferably a hand-drill) turning backwards with a masking tape layer to prevent wood splitting. Making the assumption too that the OP is talking about a bigger plate than a normal 4 hole job.
 13.
The Dunlop Big Stubby nylons are good too, they have an inlaid thumb shaped bit, to stop it flying off into the corner.
These - the 3mm for bass; Tortex .75 for guitar.

It is the one that I would be carrying out of my house while it burned to the ground, stepping over my wife and apologising to her and hoping she understands. (And leaving all my basses and other guitars to burn)
Can't say as I blame you - that is seriously
 15.
Bump for this post. The linked blog also contains a splendid debate from which we could all learn. Thanks for putting this up, Uncle Psychosis
+1, it is excellent. Sneaky Pete's is/was an excellent venue. No.1 son's band was barred from Bannerman's (just down the road from SP's) when they were playing there; the venue across the road was doing £1 a pint, so they were nipping over there for drinks instead of buying "in-house". (Kids eh? Who'd have 'em!?) Best one tho' was straight out of the Blues Brothers. My son was being kept IN a venue by the manager (& a bouncer) as he reckoned they owed £60 bar bill from last time they were there; being a pay-to-play joint that I wasn't best pleased about anyway, I took a bit of delight in facing them down. The place burnt down shortly later (alleged insurance job) taking out an excellent Irish bar nearby, a cafe, amusement arcade, a hotel and a few flats into the bargain; and the manager - last I heard - had done a runner.
 16.
people can F and blind to their hearts content, but can't mention Fenders,
...... same thing isn't it?
 17.
I'm against the Dislike option - I tend to articulate my opinion, if it's contrary to the one expressed by the poster and I'm willing to debate. Otherwise I forever keep my peace
18. I saw someone on here write recently that they stand their bass up "leaning against the jack plug" when not in use. I've seen two Teles have their sockets ripped out when they fall over doing that. Yup, all my leads have an angled jack at one end.
 19. I was against the dislike button; as has already been said - you can ignore what you don't like - but it also turned into a bit of a clique/popularity contest. Though a simple - like the BBC HYS has - "+" button and a "-" button in the post window would work well, it wouldn't need a reply to take up space, just a click (rather than clique) on the post in question. (You get to -10 & concede defeat, that's my idea, not the BBCs)
 20.
I've seen this kind of setup before. Ignore it at all costs. Basically, it revolves around typical greedy promoters who take the £'s home whilst thinking the band should think themselves lucky for having a gig.
^this; I've seen it on the go over the past 10 years or more. My son's band fell for it long ago, in Edinburgh at a bar down Shandwick Place. From what i could see the bar owner relied on most bands who fell for it being either/and/or; young & gullible, keen to get any gig for exposure with dreams/promises of the big time, students who had loads of mates who would buy a cheap ticket to see their mates play. There usually followed a promise of "do this favour for me & I'll get you top billing next time". Quite often the bands only payment was a case of beer. It was only after they started (at my insistence) to tell the bar owners where to shove it that they started to get recognition of any description.
 21.
Same with police, who couldn`t be arsed coming out and the TM had to go to them.
Sounds familiar; until recently Bilston police station was across the road from The Robin, trouble has rocketed since it closed. PS. Not actually IN The Robin AFAIK, it's a good venue. But Bilston is a spit & you miss it place - it's had shootings, stabbings, the lot in the past couple of years. I'm not a aware of any Crack Generators in the area so I'd be thinking Brum or Wolves for it to turn up - if not wider afield.
 22.
That's low. Sounds like the bar stewards knew exactly what they were doing as well.
^this; I hope the scum rot; but it does sound like they had you lined up, possibly followed from the gig? Robin's car park is on open view for folk to see what's being loaded out. There's a few hotels in that area that could equally have been done if it was just on spec. I know that hotel; IIRC it used to be a Quality Inn years ago? it must have had CCTV in a place that size?
 23.
Does this have the f hole at the top? It's difficult to see because of the colour.

Hi. No, sorry, its the solid body version. I'm not much of a photographer I'm afraid! Bob
Have a "the solid style is a Custom IIRC, the f-hole one is a Thinline model" bump on me, cos it's really nice n' I love Teles.
 24.
Heh, similar thought here. Could all join it and mention other basses. Bit like saying 'bum' on the radio! How about we run a little competition on there, to see who can mention a bass and get away with it? eg '..that colour is hard to defend. Erroneously, my screen made it look less pink...' 'Looks like it's precision made...' '..thought the colour way bright so I showed it to my mate Rick, and back away he did!' etc
Love it! On the other hond of course, it may not go down well. But they should remember it's all about the music man, it would be a shame really if they forgot that.
