1.
What amazes me is that cables .......... get reviews saying that they improved the sound in some way that is contrary to the laws of physics ...........
2.
yeah, that's on the list Stu, i have the original one but i'ts too much of a pain to install
For the pedants I should of course had said no specialist tools required to fit one. With all the development of old styles they're doing recently I don't know why they stick to the old way - though they do seem to like their BBOM stuff.
  3.
Line 6? wtf? One of the worst amps i ever did hear with my ears.
When he rewired my bass JayDee had an excellent vintage Traynor 2 x 12 to test it on.
  4. Unless you're looking for full authenticity I much prefer these for a Tele & no tools needed to fit one. 5. Simple Minds? - as in the poor man's U2? Do you know Ged Grimes? ............ does he? he should stop, it's not healthy.
  6.
I'll just stick to hammering out 32nds at 360 bpm with a plectra.
Dick Dale on bass? Hmmm ...... it's a thought!
  7.
Loving the Hiwatt, bet that sounds mean!
Oh it does, way too strong for a single cab if you want it to really "breathe" properly. It's still got a set of GEC KT88s in it.
  8.
Sorry I think I mis-understood you in my last post - it's a good point - I haven't really looked into any Basschatter's music properly before... Time to check out this Kit Richardson stuff!
You won't be disappointed. It's rare for me to carry on playing new stuff long after getting it; novelty wears off, something else newer replaces it, loads of reasons. But that Kit EP is even as I type lying next to the CD deck, in fact - no, it isn't - it's just the cover - the CD is still IN the deck. It's excellent!
  9.
And yet many bands that started life on Peel moved to the 'mainstream'....U2,Smiths, Cure, New Order to name but 4.... Who assessed what was commercially viable? They obviously felt that those 4 bands were unmarketable or why would they need Peel to break them?
Different thing him featuring bands - he wasn't responsible for their success/fame; he always did it from the start of his time on air. He championed Roxy Music & Slade in the early 70's too. It helped - but it didn't cause their success. Tho' everyone knows about him & The Undertones. Just sayin'. You can carry right on into Page 16 of "I said, you said" now - not you personally, just the whole topic.
  10.
royal mail insist on a hard case for all instruments . If you don't do that they won't pay in event of damage
I thought - according to reports on here - that Royal Mail don't pay out for instruments full stop? Even after counter-staff have talked you into bumping up the cover?
  11.
My b/f went out to buy a newspaper 2 years ago. He's still not back yet .. :-)
He must have been that gutted at England only drawing with Algeria in the first round of the World Cup.
  12. I grew listening to Jimmy Lea, tried feebly to emulate him, he was also a Herco user. FF to 3:20, the recording quality isn't too great but I think this would be essentially a pick job. The bass is a slightly customised EB3, which was stolen so is out there somewhere............
  13.
It.ll never get better if you pick it.....
Oh I dunno........... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZH4oSsHGNOc&feature=related
  14. Nice to see a chunky solid looking bridge on a Fender too.
  15.
Play both and cover all bases.
I see what you almost did there!
  16. You see a fair few relic jobs on Ebay where the owner must have used a pick.
  17. I gave up wondering or thinking what people think about what I do in any aspect a long time ago....... "Design work too? That's just drawing pictures and play school stuff for silly money". There's always someone who will think the opposite of what you intend, sometimes just for kicks. Take away that restriction and it makes life a fair bit easier.

    Fave guitar solo?

For a solo fitting within the context of the song, tone, playing and everything I've never been able to hear better than this yet.......... A very young Micky Moody, and a band I discovered by accident as a young sprog, when I went to see Nazareth with my sister; Snafu were support. I loved both bands ever since....................... pity about the prog rock keyboards though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqFEPcJ7wHU
  19.
"Pick a nice colour and pattern guys, the tone's mostly in the electrics"
Pretty much what John Birch said, told me himself - said most of the sound was in the pickups (his vested interest and obsession) and developed them constantly throughout his life; whereas maple was his wood of choice - mainly because it was cheap, strong & not bad to work with, the birds-eye etc came later. He also had a thing about Gibson guitars - which maybe (my thoughts) shied him away from using mahogany unless he was asked to. "colours and patterns"?? check out his early 70s glam creations.
  20.
Hasn't this been up before? - at least twice? - the kid's probably about 18 now..
Probably ............. he's maybe looking for a new drummer by now. Anyone know of any drummers at the wrong gig?
  21. Look on the bright side; he had the common decency to stop Clutterbucking after 10 seconds and play a groove, something that didn't grate.
  22.
SLAG

Unsealed would allow it to get soiled which ain't no bad thing.....

Liking the idea of locking in with piping in a groove...HMMMM food for thought
I was thinking along the lines of it wouldn't be that strong and cloth would get worn away easily if you do a lot of playing sat down.
  23. IF - it was me - big IF - I'd do the front and back in two halves, using spray on glue so that you can cut the cavities. Before I started I'd cut a groove all the way around the edge of the body about a half-inch deep where the two halves would overlap. Once the glue was dry tuck the edges into the groove & then seal them in with the piping that's used on an amp or cab. IF - it was me. BUT - you'd have to seal it somehow so that any spilt drinks or sweat didn't stain it, which would make me more inclined into seeing if it's possible to get S/A vinyl with a giraffe print on it, kinda like the skins that Rick Parfitt was doing.
  24. Heard Bob Seger's "Hollywood Nights" on the radio yesterday - and I can't get it out of my head! Beats the tinnitus any day! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPPExso1x28
  25.
The upstairs of my house is perfect for that. The room i'm in is the biggest, and it shares a wall (insert window here) with my oldest brothers bedroom, which is the perfect size for a control room. Liam
"Honest darlin', the garage door is knackered, it'll fall off the runners if I open it, and the car's too big to fit in it anyway with all my tools in there. Now if I was to seal it shut & insulate it I could get all this nasty musical stuff out of the way."
